Rock Brook

Maplewood, also known as the David C. Voorhees House or the John A. Voorhees House, was a historic building overlooking Burnt Hill Road at Rock Brook in Montgomery Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 24, 2000. for its significance in architecture and health/medicine. It was destroyed by fire on November 19, 2011.

On September 28, 2014, John Sheridan, a former New Jersey Transportation Commissioner and health care executive, was found dead along with his wife Joyce in their Skillman home. Firefighters found their bodies in the house's master bedroom after putting out a fire there. Both had suffered stab wounds which were found to have killed them; the case was initially believed by the Somerset County prosecutor's office to have been a murder-suicide.Six months later, prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano made that conclusion official in a public report. However, even before its release, the Sheridans' sons, led by Mark, who at the time served as chief counsel to the state's Republican Party, had challenged that. Based on a second autopsy done by Michael Baden, who wrote his own report, they believed it was more likely that their parents had been killed by an intruder who set the fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. The Sheridan sons vowed to have the finding overturned, and exercised considerable political influence to do so. A 2016 open letter to newly appointed state medical examiner Andrew Falzon supporting a change in the finding was signed by 200 prominent state residents, including three former governors and two former state attorneys general. In 2017 Falzon officially changed the manner of John Sheridan's death from suicide to undetermined.Their efforts to change the verdict revealed a number of deficiencies in the state's medical examiner system generally and the investigation of the Sheridans' deaths specifically. Before Falzon's appointment, the position had been vacant for six years following the resignation of a predecessor who had resigned out of frustration with the system and himself replaced another predecessor who resigned for the same reason. The pathologist who performed the autopsies on the Sheridans was not board certified, had resigned from a previous position due to a failure to inform police about a changed autopsy finding, and may have yielded to pressure from the prosecutor's office. One of the detectives who had initially been part of the investigation filed a whistleblower lawsuit, later dismissed, alleging he had been subject to retaliation after he had complained about how evidence related to the case was either mishandled or destroyed.

Montgomery Township is a township in southern Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located in the New York Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 23,690, an increase of 1,436 (+6.5%) from the 2010 census count of 22,254, which in turn reflected an increase of 4,773 (+27.3%) from the 17,481 counted in the 2000 census.Montgomery Township was incorporated on February 21, 1798, as one of New Jersey's initial group of 104 townships by an act of the New Jersey Legislature, from what remained of Western precinct. Portions of the township were taken to form Princeton Borough (February 11, 1813, in Mercer County, consolidated to form Princeton as of January 1, 2013), Princeton Township (April 9, 1838, also now consolidated into Princeton) and Rocky Hill (December 18, 1889).The township has been one of the state's highest-income communities. Based on data from the American Community Survey for 2013–2017, Montgomery Township residents had a median household income of $180,660, ranked 2nd in the state among municipalities with more than 10,000 residents, more than double the statewide median of $76,475.

Skillman Park is a public park in Skillman, part of Montgomery, Somerset County, New Jersey. It is operated by the Somerset County Park Commission. The park was opened in 2015.The 247-acre area was bought by Somerset County from the township in 2011. It once housed Skillman Village. In the subsequent development of the park much of the original tree-lined layout by landscape architect Charles Leavitt from 1901 has been preserved; old buildings, however, were removed. The park can be crossed by car and has multiple parking lots. It has a multi-use, asphalted 2.25 mile trail. A nature path runs along Rock Brook.

The North Princeton Developmental Center, formerly known as the New Jersey State Village for Epileptics, was a medical facility within Montgomery Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. The facility was home to a variety of mental health institutions throughout the years. In 2011, the former self-sustaining mental health village was slated for demolition to make space for a proposed county park. Demolition was completed in 2012 with plans to begin construction of the conceptual park in 2013. The facility garnered much notoriety over the past decades due to its "ghost town" appearance and mention in the popular book and periodical, "Weird N.J." Until its demolition, the former hospital was a popular place for "urban explorers" to explore, despite the buildings being unsafe (partially due to asbestos and lead paint contamination. Urban explorers were often met with resistance from law enforcement, as the site was prone to criminal activity, ranging from graffiti to arson. Prior to the demolition of the site, state and local governments have both made reasonable attempts to keep trespassers out, for example by sealing the entrances and windows of the property, though these methods proved to be relatively ineffective.

The Western precinct was one of three components of Somerset County, New Jersey, United States, that was created circa 1745 and existed until 1798. The Western precinct, together with the Eastern precinct and Northern precinct, were created as administrative divisions of Somerset County, while still under British colonial rule.Portions of the precinct were taken on September 12, 1771, to form Hillsborough Township.On February 21, 1798, the remaining portions of the Western precinct were taken to form Montgomery Township as one of the first 104 townships created in New Jersey. With the formation of Montgomery Township, Western precinct was dissolved.

Reformed Dutch Church of Blawenburg, now known as Blawenburg Reformed Church, is a historic church at 424 County Route 518 in the Blawenburg section of Montgomery Township in Somerset County, New Jersey. The Blawenburg Reformed Church Cemetery is located on County Route 601 near CR 518. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 22, 1985 for its significance in architecture and religion. It was added as a contributing property to the Blawenburg Historic District in 1990.

Blawenburg is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Montgomery Township, in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 280. It is located at the juncture of two large roads, CR 518 and CR 601.

Montgomery High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in the Skillman section of Montgomery Township, in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades as the lone secondary school of the Montgomery Township School District. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,561 students and 112.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.8:1. There were 50 students (3.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 15 (1.0% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The district's District Factor Group ranking of "J" indicates that the school serves students of relatively high socioeconomic status.

The Montgomery Township School District is a comprehensive public school district, consisting of five school facilities, that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Montgomery Township and Rocky Hill, in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. Rocky Hill was a non-operating school district whose school children had attended the Montgomery Township schools as part of a sending/receiving relationship, but has since been incorporated into the school district. Montgomery Township had been one of the fastest-growing school districts in New Jersey. In September 1992, the K-12 enrollment was 1,590 compared to 4,924 in September 2005, tripling in just more than a decade.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of five schools, had an enrollment of 4,498 students and 403.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.2:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "J", the highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

The Donald Grant Herring Estate, called Rothers Barrows, was designed by Wilson Eyre, Jr. in 1919 for Donald Herring, a member of the Princeton University faculty. The three properties at 52, 72, and 75-77 Arreton Road are the surviving remnants of the 117-acre estate, which was subdivided in 1949. The estate's significance is as the last, chronologically, of the estates that once ringed Princeton. It is one of the finest examples of the Arts and Crafts movement in Central New Jersey.In 2016, the estate was put up for sale, listed at $3.8 million.

The Bridgepoint Historic District is a historic district located north of Rocky Hill along Bridgepoint and Dead Tree Run roads in Montgomery Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 1975 for its significance in agriculture and commerce from 1730 to 1850. It includes nine contributing buildings and two contributing structures.
