The New Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker, is a museum in New York City at 235 Bowery, on Manhattan's Lower East Side.

Bad Girls was a 1994 exhibition curated by Marcia Tucker. The show opened at the New Museum, in New York City, January 14, 1994. It was presented in two parts, part 1 lasting from January 14 to 27, 1994, and part 2 from March 5 to April 10, 1994.Bad Girls was a humorous and transgressive look at gender and feminist issues. It featured work from artist across many media, including photo, painting, sculpture, performance, film, comics, advertisements, writings and more. The show was accompanied by film screenings, performances, and events. The exhibition had mixed reviews at the time and has continued to vex many critics, however, it is now seen as a crucial piece in a lineage of third-wave feminist exhibitions.

The Sunshine Hotel is a flophouse (single room occupancy hotel) at 245 Bowery in Manhattan, New York City. It received media attention in the late 1990s and early 2000s as a result of numerous radio and film documentaries about the hotel. In recent decades, The Sunshine Hotel has been reduced in size with parts being converted into restaurant and office space.

The Bowery House is an historic hotel on the Bowery in Manhattan, New York City, that mimics its former incarnation as a flophouse.

The Rivington Street Wall is a public art project on New York City's Lower East Side that has existed since 2014. This wall, located on Rivington Street between Bowery and Chrystie Street adjacent to the On Stellar Rays gallery, began as a mural piece by Retna, and now is a revolving door of murals courtesy of Parasol Projects Besides Retna, other selected artists as Olaf Breuning, Andrew Poneros and Pryce Lee have also been part of the rotation. The artworks change every four or six weeks. Among the most notable was a 2018 project by Eduardo Kobra honoring the 27 Club.

The New York Museum was a short-lived dime museum at 210 Bowery in Manhattan, New York City, operating from the early 1880s to 1896. Managed by a Louis Hickman, it was refused a licence in 1883, and investigated for gambling and child prostitution in 1884, but remained in business. In 1889 it became the Fairyland Dime Museum and closed in 1896.

DODGEgallery was an American contemporary art gallery on the Lower East Side of New York City. It was established in 2010 and closed in 2014.

Sperone Westwater is a contemporary art gallery in the Bowery, in Manhattan, in New York City. The partners are Angela Westwater and Gian Enzo Sperone. The gallery was started on Greene Street in Soho in 1975; the first show was of work by Carl André. Since 2010 it has occupied a building on Bowery purpose-built to designs by Foster + Partners. In 2008 the gallery inaugurated a second venue at Chasa dal Guvernatur in Sent, Switzerland, with an exhibition of Bruce Nauman.

Exhibition 211 (at the time referred to as simply 'Exhibition' or '211') was a six-month-long continuous art-experiment as exhibition, that ran from March until August 2009 in New York City. It was initiated through a series of discussions between Warren Neidich and Mathieu Copelands in 2010 in Paris and New York City. But the series of instruments for its production, like the role of the roll of dice, the picking of cut up names out of a hat and the rules of engagement, see below, came later through discussions between Warren Neidich and Eric Angles. These were further formulated when the program was initiated and programmed by artist friends Elena Bajo, Eric Anglès, Jakob Schillinger, Nathalie Anglès, and Warren Neidich, offering "an experimental and contradictory artistic and curatorial approach", notably a set of rules, defining when, where, and who by, artistic interventions would take place. The project was established in the loaned storefront of 211 Elizabeth, a luxury condominium development. Being close to the New Museum, and two blocks from Prada and Armani, Exhibition spoke not only to the current economic climate, following the financial crisis of 2007–2008, but the problems of art treated as a (luxury) commodity. About Exhibition, Artist Diana Artus wrote: "The most important principle was that only one exhibition will be shown, during which time it will be in continuous development, as new people – artists, curators, and others known by the initiators – are invited to participate", she also wrote that "a fundamental aim was to provoke differences of opinion, rather than placate them."Exhibition (211) exhibited over 50, and up to 100 artists, including: Boshko Boskovic, Mathieu Copeland, Loretta Fahrenholz, Donna Huanca, Sean Raspet, Alexis Knowlton, Liz Magic Laser, David Levine, An Te Lieu, Jen Liu, Jason Loebs, Emily Mast, Amy Patton, Georgia Sagri, Alexandre Singh Mark Tribe, and B. Wurtz. Although each artist's work was not specifically identified due to the rules of adaptation and evolution involved in their participation.

211 Elizabeth is a residential building at 211 Elizabeth Street, in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan. It was designed by architecture and interior design firm Roman and Williams and was the organization's first full building design. The building is primarily residential, but also includes space for three separate commercial developments on the first floor. It has fifteen units spread across seven stories, and room for three separate commercial developments in the structure's basement. Billy Joel and Gabriel Byrne are both residents of the building, as were Karlie Kloss and Josh Kushner until 2019.The bricks of the building were placed by hand, which is atypical for contemporary construction, as most buildings use pre-fabricated brick facades. Construction was led by Irish masons, and individual bricks cost up to $300 apiece. The building sold out in 2010, after failing to sell out when first placed on the market in 2008 due to the recession, a fact that resulted in a brief hiatus in listings. Tenants received a custom bike upon purchasing a residence. The building won a Palladio Award in 2010 for its use of traditional design and construction materials.
