Hopewell station

Hopewell is a borough in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Centrally located within the Raritan Valley region, this historical settlement (and it's neighboring township of the same name) is an exurban commuter suburb of New York City in the New York metropolitan area as defined by the United States Census Bureau. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 1,918, a decrease of 4 (−0.2%) from the 2010 census count of 1,922, which in turn had reflected a decline of 113 (−5.6%) from the 2,035 counted in the 2000 census.Hopewell was incorporated as by the New Jersey Legislature on April 14, 1891, from portions of Hopewell Township, based on the results of a referendum held on March 21, 1891. Additional portions of Hopewell Township were annexed in 1915 and the borough was reincorporated in 1924.

Hopewell Academy was a Baptist Latin grammar preparatory school in Hopewell, New Jersey that operated between 1756 and 1767. The academy is noted as the first Baptist educational establishment in the American Colonies. The school was the forerunner of Brown University, with Hopewell alumni James Manning and Hezekiah Smith both playing major roles in the establishment and early administration of the college.

The Hopewell Museum is an American history museum in Hopewell, New Jersey.

Jeremiah Vandyke House, also known as Andrew B. Hankins House, is a historic house located at 87-91 Featherbed Lane, Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The home is of interest because it is one of few of this style of home that would have been, at the time, a very common and unremarkable Dutch Colonial fieldstone house. The original stone part of the building measures 29x16 feet and consists of a single room downstairs with a central staircase. The west end of this room has an open fireplace with an oak lintel. The east wall has a smaller fireplace with a simple early 19th century mantel. The exposed ceiling has chamfered hewn oak beams, carrying wide floorboards. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a short hallway.

The Joseph Stout House, also known as the Hunt House and the Weart–Hunt House, is a historic stone house built in 1752 and located on Province Line Road in the Stoutsburg section of Hopewell Township in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. It was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1937. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 29, 1974, for its significance in military and religion history.

Stoutsburg is an unincorporated community located along the border of Hopewell Township in Mercer County and Montgomery Township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. County Route 518 passes through the community from the east and west, while Province Line Road passes through north and south. Province Line Road follows the Keith line which formerly separated the provinces of West Jersey and East Jersey, now parts of Hopewell and Montgomery townships respectively.

The Mount Rose Distillery Archaeological Site is a 1.3-acre (0.53 ha) archaeological site located at 192 Pennington-Rocky Hill Road in the Mount Rose section of Hopewell Township in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 12, 1996, for its significance in archaeology and industry, in particular the history of cider milling and distilleries.

WHWH (1350 AM) is a radio station in Princeton, New Jersey, serving Trenton, New Jersey. Established in 1963, the station is owned and operated by Multicultural Radio Broadcasting Licensee, LLC.

Highfields is a historic house in East Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey that served as the home of Charles and Anne Lindbergh, the famous aviators. It was the location of the Lindbergh kidnapping, after which it was turned into a rehabilitation center. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Mount Rose (formerly called Stout's Corner) is an unincorporated community located within Hopewell Township, in Mercer County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, situated at the corner of Carter Road (also called County Route 569 and Hopewell-Princeton Road), Pennington-Rocky Hill Road, and Cherry Valley Road. It is named for a local gardener. The Mount Rose section of Rocky Hill Ridge through the community also takes its name from the gardener. Richard Stout opened the first general store in the village around 1822 and in 1830, Josiah Cook and Reuben Savidge opened a second store. The settlement was also later home to two shoe shops, a dressmaker, wheelwrights, a blacksmith, a harness shop, an agricultural implements warehouse, a post office and a steam sawmill. In its heyday the community had about 20 houses. Nathaniel Drake opened an applejack distillery in the village in the mid-19th century. He made and sold peach brandy, apple cider and apple whiskey. The Whiskey House (192 Pennington-Rocky Hill Road), the office building for the distillery and the only remaining Drake building in the village, is listed on the township, state and national registers of historic places. The community's schoolhouse, a stone building east of the crossroads, was later replaced by a frame building on the southern end of the village that is a private residence today. After 1880, Mount Rose began shrinking, due to the growth of nearby Hopewell. It is planned that the Lawrence Hopewell Trail will go through the community.

On March 1, 1932, Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr. (born June 22, 1930), the 20-month-old son of colonel Charles Lindbergh and his wife Anne Morrow Lindbergh, was abducted from his crib in the upper floor of the Lindberghs' home, Highfields, in East Amwell, New Jersey, United States. On May 12, the child's corpse was discovered by a truck driver by the side of a nearby road.In September 1934, a German immigrant carpenter named Bruno Richard Hauptmann was arrested for the crime. After a trial that lasted from January 2 to February 13, 1935, he was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. Despite his conviction, he continued to profess his innocence, but all appeals failed and he was executed in the electric chair at the New Jersey State Prison on April 3, 1936. Hauptmann's guilt or lack thereof continues to be debated in the modern day. Newspaper writer H. L. Mencken called the kidnapping and trial "the biggest story since the Resurrection". Legal scholars have referred to the trial as one of the "trials of the century". The crime spurred the U.S. Congress to pass the Federal Kidnapping Act (commonly referred to as the "Little Lindbergh Law") which made transporting a kidnapping victim across state lines a federal crime.

Mount Rose is a narrow section of the Rocky Hill Ridge in Hopewell Township, New Jersey which is 420 feet above sea level. The ridge's western end is at The Sourlands at Hopewell-Pennington Road and its eastern end is near Province Line Road. The ridge is a diabase intrusion and unlike many of the ridges in the state, it runs from northwest to southeast. Crusher Road travels along the ridge. Pennington-Rocky Hill Road, Cherry Valley Road, Hopewell-Princeton Road and Carter Road meet at a low point along the ridge at the village of Mount Rose.
