Westlake Park (Houston)

The Energy Corridor is a business district in Houston, Texas, located on the west side of the metropolitan area between Beltway 8 and the Grand Parkway. The district straddles a 7-mile (11 km) stretch of Interstate 10 (the Katy Freeway) from Kirkwood Road westward to Barker Cypress Road and extends south along Eldridge Parkway to Briar Forest Drive. Parts of the district overlap with the Memorial area of Houston. The district is located north of Westchase, another major business district of Houston, and east of Greater Katy. Many energy sector companies have major operations in the Energy Corridor, including BP America, Citgo, ConocoPhillips, Nouryon and Shell Oil Company. Non-energy firms also have a presence; Sysco and Gulf States Toyota Distributors are both headquartered in the district. The Energy Corridor contains over 26 million square feet (2,400,000 m2) of office space, with an employment capacity of over 105,000.Over 26,000 acres (41 sq mi; 110 km2) of urban park area borders the Energy Corridor, including George Bush Park and Bear Creek Pioneers Park. These parks are located within Barker Reservoir and Addicks Reservoir, respectively, which comprise a major flood control system for Buffalo Bayou.

Addicks is an area of Houston that was formerly its own community. Addicks, a railroad stop for the Bear Creek community, was named after its original postmaster, Henry Addicks, in 1884. The original town site was located just south of the intersection of Patterson Road and Highway 6. The Addicks Bear Creek Cemetery contains the graves of many of the original German settlers. The town and surrounding community were destroyed by the Hurricane of 1900 but were quickly rebuilt. By 1947 the community was forced to move several miles south near the current intersection of I-10 and Highway 6 since the old location became the site for the Addicks Reservoir. Many of the old buildings can still be found. The Addicks Bear Creek Methodist Church, founded in 1879, is a historical building and can be found on the east side of Highway 6 near Addicks Dam. The church is now known as Addicks United Methodist Church [1]. Other old buildings located near the southeast corner of I-10 and Highway 6, make up a trendy area of shops, antique stores, and restaurants. The City of Houston annexed the Addicks-Barker Reservoir area in 1972.

The Addicks Reservoir and Addicks Dam in conjunction with the Barker Reservoir prevent downstream flooding of Buffalo Bayou in the City of Houston, Texas. Both reservoirs were authorized under the Rivers and Harbors Act of June 20, 1938, which was modified by the Flood Control Acts of August 11, 1938; September 3, 1954; and October 27, 1965. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed construction of Addicks Dam and the outlet facility in 1948.

Briarhills is a subdivision in western Houston, Texas. The Briarhills Property Owners Association (POA) and the Briarhills Home Owners Association (HOA) serve Briarhills, Meadowbriar, and Oaks of Parkway.

Terry Hershey Park is a county park that runs parallel to a roughly 6-mile (9.7 km) stretch of the Buffalo Bayou in western Houston, Texas. The park is named after Terry Hershey, a conservationist who campaigned to keep the banks of Buffalo Bayou from being paved. The park hosts a network of trails that run along the bayou from State Highway 6 to the Sam Houston Tollway and is a popular destination for local residents, runners, bicyclists and Geocachers.

Houston Sudbury School (HSS) was a non-profit private Sudbury school in Spring Branch, Houston, Texas. The school served students of ages 6–18 and followed the Sudbury model of self-education. The democracy was meted out in a weekly school meeting where staff and students discussed and voted on a variety of administrative aspects of the school, including rules. These rules were enforced through a peer justice system called the judicial committee.

Parkway Villages is a 577-lot, 224-acre (91 ha) subdivision in western Houston, Texas. It is located north of Lakes of Parkway, the former Barnhardt land tract. It was the first single family housing development by Sueba USA, a subsidiary of Süba Freie Baugesellschaft.

Barker Reservoir is a flood control structure in Houston, Texas which prevents downstream flooding of Buffalo Bayou, the city's principal river. The reservoir operates in conjunction with Addicks Reservoir to the northeast, which impounds Mayde and Bear Creeks, two tributaries of the Buffalo. Both reservoirs were authorized under the Rivers and Harbors Act of June 20, 1938, which were modified by the Flood Control Acts of August 11, 1938; September 3, 1954; and October 27, 1965. George Bush Park, operated by Harris County, is located entirely within the reservoir.Houston annexed the Addicks area in 1972.

Temple Sinai is a Reform Jewish synagogue located 13875 Brimhurst Drive, in Houston, Texas, in the United States. Jewish residents on the west side of Houston and its western suburbs, including Katy, Cinco Ranch and Sugar Land worship at the synagogue. The congregation is composed of more than 200 families and is led by Rabbi David Lipper since 2022. The synagogue is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism and its youth group is associated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth.

Saint John Paul II Catholic School (commonly abbreviated to JPII) is a Catholic private school for grades Pre-K through 8th grade in western Houston, Texas. The school is within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. As of 2008 it serves over 700 students.

The Don Coleman Coliseum is an indoor arena operated by the Spring Branch Independent School District and located in Houston, Texas, United States. Completed in 1974 at a cost of $1.3 million, the facility seats 5,000 for events that have included high school sports, a visit by Gerald Ford in 1976, and the 1984 Trans-America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament. Originally christened the Spring Branch Community Coliseum, it was renamed in 1992 for local basketball coaching icon Don Coleman. He was the coach of nearby Memorial High School boys basketball for 37 years. It has served as the place for graduates in the Spring Branch Independent School District to graduate each year, instead of Reliant Stadium as used by other schools in the Harris County area.

Stratford High School is a secondary school in Houston, Texas, United States. The school is one of four high schools in the Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD), the district's westernmost secondary school (serving grades 9 through 12). Stratford High School serves several neighborhoods, including Westchester, Sherwood Oaks, Nottingham Forest, Nottingham West, Wilchester, Gaywood, Wilchester West, Yorkshire, Memorial Townhomes, Village on Memorial Townhomes, Memorial Way, Rustling Pines, Memorial Plaza, and the SBISD portions of Thornwood and Ashford Forest. Stratford provides courses in the traditional academic subjects, as well as several foreign languages, technology, vocational education, athletics, and fine arts. Several different Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered at Stratford. In keeping with the theme of its mascot, Stratford's student newspaper is The Oracle, and its yearbook is Mnemosyne.
