Columbia Law School

Peking University Law School (Chinese: 北京大学法学院) is the law school of Peking University, a public research university in Beijing, China. Founded in 1904 as the law department of Peking University, it is the oldest law School in China and is generally considered to be one of the most prestigious law schools in Asia. Since 2015, the law school has been ranked first in Mainland China and one of top three law schools in Asia every year by QS World University Rankings. The school has been generally regarded as the most competitive and selective law school in China. The school's Bachelor of Laws students have the highest average scores in China's college entrance examination among all law schools in China, the average acceptance rate of Master of Laws and Juris Master is less than 10% in 2017.Peking University Law School confers four types of law degrees: Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws, Juris Master, and Doctor of Laws. As of 2017, PKU LAW employs more than 70 professors and has established 36 research centers. Four of the law school's disciplines including Legal Theory Studies, Constitution and Administrative Law Studies, Economic Law Studies, and Criminal Law Studies are ranked the best in China. The school publishes 11 legal journals including Peking University Law Journal (edited by staff members) and Peking University Law Review (edited by students).Peking University Law School has produced a significant number of luminaries in both law and politics. Its alumni include China's incumbent Prime Minister Li Keqiang and four of the current justices of China's Supreme Court, Jiang Bixin, Nan Ying, Sun Huapu and Pei Xianding. According to a survey conducted in 2017, 246 partners of China's top 8 law firms are PKU LAW alumni, more than the second and the third-ranked law school combined. The school is also the workplace for some of the most prominent legal scholars in China, including Zhang Qianfan, Chen Xinliang, and He Weifang.

The Center for Japanese Legal Studies (CJLS) at Columbia Law School is the first and only center of its kind in the United States.The Center for Japanese Legal Studies advances the study of Japanese law at Columbia Law School and fosters intellectual exchange between the Columbia community and the legal profession of Japan. The Center strives to be the principal source of intellectual exchange between the legal professions of the United States and Japan. Columbia Law School consistently ranks among the top schools nationally in the field of international law.The CJLS holds that its main challenge today is keeping abreast of dynamic changes in the Japanese legal system over the past decade. Reforms have been motivated by a variety of factors, ranging from domestic economic and demographic pressures to international relations considerations and the forces of globalization. Understanding and responding to these significant institutional changes requires in depth research and the timely dissemination of ideas.

The Arthur W. Diamond Law Library is the law library of Columbia Law School. Located in Jerome L. Greene Hall on the university's Morningside Heights campus, it holds over 1.3 million volumes, and as of 2021, it is the second largest academic law library in the United States. It was named for alumnus Arthur W. Diamond following a $7 million donation from the Miriam and Arthur W. Diamond Charitable Trust to Columbia Law School.

Bellerophon Taming Pegasus is an outdoor sculpture by Jacques Lipchitz, depicting Bellerophon and Pegasus. It was the final sculpture worked on by Lipchitz, and was completed after his death in 1973. The work depicts the human figure of Bellerophon, standing on a high plinth, tying a rope around the neck of the thrashing Pegasus, whose tail, legs and wings splay dramatically around the central figures. It has been interpreted as a representing man taming nature. In the words of the artist, "You observe nature, make conclusions, and from these you make rules… and law is born from that". It takes inspiration from Lipchitz's earlier work, Birth of the Muses, which depicts Pegasus landing on Mount Olympus.The sculpture was commissioned by architect Max Abramovitz for Columbia Law School in 1964. It was cast in bronze at Pietrasanta in Italy, shipped in pieces to be constructed in New York City, and dedicated on November 28, 1977. It is installed above the west entrance of Jerome Greene Hall on Revson Plaza, on the Columbia University campus in Manhattan. Nearby on the plaza are casts of Henry Moore's Three-Way Piece: Points, Tightrope Walker by Kees Verkade, Life Force by David Bakalar, and Flight by Gertrude Schweitzer.The 23 ton sculpture measures approximately 30 feet (9.1 m) by 28 feet (8.5 m), and stands on a 27-foot (8.2 m) high pedestal, making it, after the Statue of Liberty, the second-largest metal statue in New York City, as of 2022.The Tate Gallery in London holds a plaster "sketch" from 1964, presented by the Lipchitz Foundation in 1982. Another 1964 plaster "sketch" is held by the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.A 12 foot bronze cast - about half the size of the original - is at the Broadgate development in London. Another cast was installed in Kansas City in 2000.

Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) is the architecture school of Columbia University, a private research university in New York City. It is regarded as an important and highly prestigious architecture school. It is also home to the Masters of Science program in Advanced Architectural Design, Historic Preservation, Real Estate Development, Urban Design, and Urban Planning. The school's resources include the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library, the United States' largest architectural library and home to some of the first books published on architecture, as well as the origin of the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals.Recent deans of the school have included architect James Stewart Polshek (1972-1987), Bernard Tschumi (1988-2003), Mark Wigley (2004-2014), Amale Andraos (2014–2021), Weiping Wu (Interim Dean, 2022), and Andrés Jaque (2022-).

Casa Italiana is a building at Columbia University located at 1161 Amsterdam Avenue between West 116th and 118th Streets in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, which houses the university's Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America. It was built in 1926–27 and was designed by William M. Kendall of McKim, Mead & White in the Renaissance style, modeled after a 15th-century Roman palazzo. The building was restored, and the east facade completed, in 1996 by Buttrick White & Burtis with Italo Rota as associate architect.

Life Force is an outdoor abstract, bronze sculpture by David Bakalar, installed on the Columbia University campus in New York City, in 1992.

Tightrope Walker (sometimes Tight Rope Walker) is an outdoor bronze sculpture by Dutch artist Kees Verkade, installed on Columbia University's Revson Plaza in Upper Manhattan, New York City, in 1979. The work commemorates General William J. Donovan and depicts one figure standing atop another as he tightrope walks.

The School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University (SIPA) is the international affairs and public policy school of Columbia University, a private Ivy League university located in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, New York City. It is consistently ranked one of the top graduate schools for international relations in the world. SIPA offers Master of International Affairs (MIA) and Master of Public Administration (MPA) degrees in a range of fields, as well as the Executive MPA and Ph.D. program in Sustainable Development. SIPA's alumni include former heads of state, business leaders, journalists, diplomats, and elected representatives. Half of SIPA's nearly 1,400 students are international, coming from over 100 countries. SIPA has more than 70 full-time faculty, many of which include the world's leading scholars on international relations.

The Harriman Institute, the first academic center in the United States devoted to the interdisciplinary study of Russia and the Soviet Union, was founded at Columbia University in 1946, with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, as the Russian Institute.

The President's House at Columbia University is located at the intersection between 116th Street and Morningside Drive, on the university's Morningside Heights campus in Manhattan, New York City. Built in 1912 by McKim, Mead & White, it is the official residence of the president of Columbia University. It was first occupied by Nicholas Murray Butler, and with the exception of acting President Frank D. Fackenthal and President Michael Sovern, it has been the residence of every university president since its construction.

The Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI) at Columbia University is a community of scholars affiliated with Columbia's schools, bringing together over 50 full-time faculty, a diverse group of visiting scholars and professionals, and students from the United States and abroad. Its mission is to train new generations of experts on East Asian topics in the humanities, social sciences, and the professions and to enhance understanding of East Asia in the wider community. Since its establishment in 1949 as the East Asian Institute, the WEAI has been the center for modern and contemporary East Asia research, studies, and publication at Columbia, covering China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Mongolia (Inner Asia), Tibet, and, increasingly, the countries of Southeast Asia. The Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI) and East Asian Studies at Columbia has been recognized by a wide variety of funding sources, including the U.S. Department of Education, which, since 1960, has designated Columbia as an East Asian National Resource Center. Faculty and scholars at the institute are distinguished by their interdisciplinary and multinational focus. Resources available to the institute community include Columbia University's renowned C.V. Starr East Asian Library and the institute's extensive ties to the business, diplomatic, legal, and media communities in New York City, the nation, and abroad. The institute is also one of the leading centers for developing K-12 teacher resource and training programs in the United States. In 2003, the institute was renamed the Weatherhead East Asian Institute to honor the generosity of the Weatherhead Foundation. The Weatherhead endowment supports a significant expansion of Institute programs, including the creation of postdoctoral fellowships, visiting professorships, a faculty research program, graduate training grants, student internships, a resident fellows program, and symposiums and workshops. The endowment will also support graduate fellowships for students pursuing advanced degrees in East Asian-related fields.
