Leicester Rowing Club

De Montfort University Rowing Club (DMURC) is the rowing club of De Montfort University, Leicester, and is situated on the city canalised section of the River Soar. The club was founded in 1992 when Leicester Polytechnic changed to De Montfort University during the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.

The programme was successful in developing the waterfront of Leicester, a key part of the overall transformation of the city. Local streets are named after herbs and spices, these are Sage Road, Tarragon Road, Coriander Road, Mint Road and Thyme Close (these names resulted from the children at Hazel Street infants and juniors School and Shaftesbury junior school being asked about names for the new housing development - they asked for them to be named after the pop group The Spice Girls but the Council deemed that was not appropriate and a compromise of the current names was the outcome!).Office blocks were built on northern side where had been the offices of the former Great Central Railway offices and the former site of the art-deco buildings of the Kirby and West dairy on The Newarke, which had relocated to Richard III Road.

King Power Stadium (also known as the Leicester City Stadium due to UEFA sponsorship regulations and formerly known as the Walkers Stadium) is a football stadium in Leicester, England. It has been the home of Premier League club Leicester City since 2002 and has an all-seated capacity of 32,261. Since 2021, the stadium has also been the primary home of Leicester City Women.

Leicester power stations are a series of electricity generating stations that have provided electric power to the City of Leicester and the wider area from 1894. The first station, located within Aylestone gas works, supplied electricity for street lighting. The city’s new electric tram system was supplied from 1904 by a station at Lero which operated until 1930. A large coal-fired power station was constructed at Freemans Meadow in 1922 and was operational until 1976. Finally a gas turbine power plant was commissioned in 1976.

Gateway Sixth Form College is a sixth form college in Hamilton, Leicester, England. The college used to be housed in the city centre of Leicester, adjacent to the main campus of De Montfort University and located by other buildings of academic interests such as the Daneil Lambert Museum, Newarke House, Leicester Castle and Castle Gardens. The bridge from where the deceased body of Richard III was said to have been thrown from (prior to being found elsewhere) is also a short walk from the original site. It has since moved to a new, £33 million campus built in the Hamilton suburb of the city.

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a public university in the city of Leicester, England. It was established in accordance with the Further and Higher Education Act in 1992 as a degree awarding body. The name De Montfort University was taken from Simon de Montfort, a 13th-century Earl of Leicester. De Montfort University has approximately 27,000 full and part-time students, 3,240 staff and an annual turnover in the region of £168 million. The university is organised into four faculties: Art, Design, and Humanities (ADH); Business and Law (BAL); Health and Life Sciences (H&LS); and Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM). It is a Sustainable Development Hub, focusing on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, an initiative by the United Nations launched in 2018. The Department of Education awarded university a Gold rating in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The Braunstone Gate Bridge (also known as the Bowstring Bridge) was a former railway bridge carrying the Great Central Railway, and later a public footpath and cycleway, over Western Boulevard and the River Soar in Leicester, England. The bridge had been in a poor state of repair following years of neglect by the local council and it was demolished to facilitate developments for De Montfort University. The Council claimed that the costs of restoration were prohibitive.
