Kashmere High School is a secondary school in Houston, Texas that serves grades 9 through 12; it is a part of the Houston Independent School District. It is located in the Trinity Gardens neighborhood, and its namesake is the nearby Kashmere Gardens neighborhood.Kashmere contains the Conrad O. Johnson School of Fine Arts, a Houston ISD magnet school program.

Settegast is a neighborhood in northeast Houston; it has an average population density between one and five. The community is bordered by the 610 Loop, the Union Pacific Railroad Settegast Yard, and the old Beaumont Highway. The community has many small, wood-framed houses and empty lots. Habitat for Humanity has a prominent stake in the area, and a community garden is underway. There are few commercial and industrial uses within Settegast. Also, contemporary housing has started to arise within new construction in the area. The City of Houston designated Settegast as a Houston HOPE neighborhood.

Kay On-Going Education Center was a middle and high school in Houston, Texas. It was a program of the Houston Independent School District for pregnant girls. It had a campus on North Shepherd Drive. Pregnant HISD students were permitted to attend Kay On-Going, but they were not required to. Students received on-campus prenatal care. In addition to the nursing care, the school also provided counseling to ensure that the girls remained enrolled in school.

Forest Brook High School was a high school located at 7525 Tidwell Road in Houston, Texas, United States. Serving grades 9 through 12, Forest Brook was a part of the North Forest Independent School District. It is now the site of Forest Brook Middle School, now under the control of the Houston Independent School District. A brook runs through the campus.

Bennie Carl Elmore High School was a senior high school in Houston, Texas. It was a part of the East and Mount Houston Independent School District. It was a school for black students, and it served the community of Settegast. It opened in 1957. Its namesake served as the principal from 1957 to 1969. The 27 classroom building had a cost of $513,113.00. It was converted into a junior high school on when Forest Brook High School opened in 1972. The building was razed and replaced with a new middle school structure in 1999. In 2013 this new campus became the B.C. Elmore Elementary School of the Houston Independent School District. During its life its main feeder grade schools were Settegast School and Hilliard School.

Barbara Jordan Career Center, formerly Barbara Jordan High School for Careers, is a public vocational school center at 5800 Eastex Freeway (U.S. Highway 59) in Houston, Texas, United States. It is a part of the Houston Independent School District. Prior to July 1, 2018, the school served as its own self-contained secondary school. Since June 2018, Jordan is a regional career education hub for students enrolled at other HISD high schools. When it was its own high school it had a program for high school-aged deaf pupils. The center was named after politician Barbara Jordan.

The district was first represented by Barbara Jordan, the first black woman elected to Congress from the South, who was praised by many for her powerful presence and oratorical skills.Since the district was moved to Houston in 1972, it has voted for a Democrat in every presidential election. The district gave George McGovern 69% in 1972 and Walter Mondale 72% in 1984.

Denver Harbor is a historic community located in eastern Houston, Texas, United States near the Houston Ship Channel. The community, bounded by Wallisville Road, the Union Pacific Railroad, and the Port Terminal Railroad Association, was first settled in the 1890s and platted in 1911 and 1913. The community includes many historic bungalow and cottage homes.Denver Harbor is a mostly Hispanic community.
