Aughrim County Ground

Aughrim (; Irish: Eachroim, meaning 'horse ridge') is a small town in County Wicklow, Ireland. It lies in a scenic valley in the Wicklow Mountains in the east of Ireland where the Ow and Derry rivers meet to form the Aughrim River. Aughrim is on the R747 road between Arklow and Baltinglass, and the R753 regional road.

Annacurra or Annacurragh (Irish: Áth na Cora) is a small village in South-East County Wicklow, Ireland. It is located just off the R747 road which runs from Arklow to Baltinglass and is about 1.5 miles from Aughrim. The River Derry runs through the village.

The R747 road is a regional road in Ireland running north-west/south-east from the M9 near Ballitore in County Kildare to Arklow in County Wicklow, a distance of 66 km (41 mi). From its junction with the M9 it heads east to the former N9. It crosses this at a staggered junction and enters County Wicklow almost immediately and 10 km (6.2 mi) southeast it crosses the N81 in the town of Baltinglass. It continues southeast through Kiltegan before crossing into County Carlow for a short distance where it passes through Hacketstown. Back in County Wicklow it crosses the Wicklow Way and enters the southern end of the Wicklow Mountains near Tinahely. From Tinahely it heads northwest for 14 km (8.7 mi) to Aughrim, and then east along the valley of Aughrim River to Woodenbridge where it is joined by the R752. The final leg of its eastward route is through the valley of the River Avoca which takes it under (though not connecting to) the N11 before terminating in the centre of Arklow. Macreddin (Irish: Maigh Chríodáin, meaning 'plain of Cridan'; formerly also Moycreedin; formerly officially Carysfort, also Cariesfort), is a hamlet in County Wicklow, in the southern foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, 4 km north of Aughrim on the back road to Greenan. The historical borough is in the townland of Macreddin West in the civil parish of Ballykine, barony of Ballinacor South. It also gives its name to the adjacent townland of Macreddin East. Wicklow County Council's 2010 development plan recognises the site as an "area of archaeological potential and significance" as "site of one of the few 17th century Plantation Towns established in Leinster". The pre-1800 parliamentary borough of Carysfort and the title Earl of Carysfort derive from Carysfort.

The Aughrim River (Irish: Abhainn Eachroma) flows from confluence of the Derry Water and River Ow south of the village of Aughrim in County Wicklow in Ireland. It flows in a generally easterly direction for approximately 12 km (7.5 mi) following the R747 regional road for its full length before joining the River Avoca in the Vale of Avoca, which in turn discharges into the Irish Sea at Arklow. From source to sea the river remains in East Wicklow. The R747 crosses the river twice, near Aughrim and downstream at the village of Woodenbridge, before the Aughrim discharges into the Avoca river.

Croghan Mountain, also known as Croghan Kinsella or Croghan Kinshelagh (Irish: Cruachán Uí Chinnsealaigh, meaning 'little stack of the Kinsella family') at 606 metres (1,988 ft), is the 211th–highest peak in Ireland on the Arderin scale, and the 258th–highest peak on the Vandeleur-Lynam scale. Croghan is situated at the far southeastern end of the Wicklow Mountains on the County Wicklow and Wexford border, in Ireland.

The Wicklow gold rush, or the Avoca gold rush, was a gold rush that began on 15 September 1795, following the discovery of gold on the northern slopes of Croghan Kinsella mountain, County Wicklow, Ireland. The unregulated period of gold collection ended with a military takeover exactly one month later, on 15 October 1795. Over the four week period, as much as 80 kilograms of gold was recovered by prospectors. It was the only recorded gold rush to have occurred on the island of Ireland.

Croaghanmoira (Irish: Cruachán Mhaigh Rath, meaning 'little stack of Moira') at 664 metres (2,178 ft), is the 136th–highest peak in Ireland on the Arderin scale, and the 165th–highest peak on the Vandeleur-Lynam scale. Croaghanmoira is situated in the far south-east corner of the Wicklow Mountains range, and sits on its own small massif with several other lesser but well known peaks, separated from the nearby larger massif of Lugnaquilla by the Laragh to Aghavannagh road; the summit of Croaghanmoira has a distinctive "pyramidal" profile.

Greenan (Irish: An Grianán, meaning 'the summerhouse') is a village in County Wicklow, Ireland. Nearby are the towns of Rathdrum and Aughrim along with the glaciated valleys of Glendalough and Glenmalure. The name is spelled 'Greenane' on older signs in the village; the modern version drops the final 'e'. Greenan is also the name of a crossing in County Monaghan. On the main road, there are a few houses and also a primary school named Greenans Cross National School.

Ballinaclash (Irish: An Chlais, meaning 'townland of the ravine') is a village in east County Wicklow centred on a bridge that carries the R753 regional road across the River Avonbeg. The village is mentioned in J.M. Synge's play 'The Tinker's Wedding': "And a big fool I was too, maybe; but we'll be seeing Jaunting Jim to-morrow in Ballinaclash, and he after getting a great price for his white foal in the horse-fair of Wicklow" In 1837, the village had a population of 3855 according to Samuel Lewis' 'A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland'. This population was much reduced by the famine and subsequent emigration and today is only a fraction of that number. The village was originally the site of an ancient monastery founded by the brother of St. Kevin, according to Mervyn Archdall. The site is now occupied by Whaley Abbey; the home of the notorious Buck Whaley.

The Avonbeg River (Irish: Abhainn Beag, meaning 'small river') rises on the northern flank of Camenabologue in the Wicklow Mountains and flows southeast into the valley of Glenmalure. It continues southeast through the villages of Greenan and Ballinaclash before joining the Avonmore at the Meeting of the Waters (Cumar an dá Uisce) to form the River Avoca, which in turn discharges into the Irish Sea at Arklow. From source to sea the river remains in East Wicklow. Avonbeg Road, Avonbeg Drive, Avonbeg Park and Avonbeg Gardens in Tallaght, Dublin are named after the river.

Woodenbridge (Irish: an Droichead Adhmaid) is a small village in County Wicklow, Ireland. It lies between Arklow and Avoca, at the meeting of the Avoca, Aughrim and Goldmine rivers. The village is located at the junction of the R747 and R752 roads. The R747 crosses the Aughrim on the stone bridge which is still called "Wooden Bridge".
