The Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar School (Irish: Scoil na Mainistreach, Iúr Cinn Trá) is a voluntary day school for boys aged 11 – 18 years in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland.

Bagenal's Castle (Irish: Caisleán Bagenal) is a 16th century fortified house located in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. It was rediscovered in 1996, where it was found located in the premises of the former McCann's Bakery. The castle consists of a rectangular plan with three storeys and was made with granite. During its restoration, sandstone was used as the replacement material.

The Diocese of Dromore (Latin: Dioecesis Dromorensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in Northern Ireland. It is one of eight suffragan dioceses which are subject to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Armagh. The diocese has lacked an ordinary since 2018. The most recent bishop was John McAreavey.

The Cathedral of Saint Patrick and Saint Colman or Newry Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Newry, Northern Ireland. It acts as the seat of the Bishop of Dromore, and the Mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dromore. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, over 200,000 people visited the cathedral each year. The cathedral sits on Newry's Main Street and is a Grade A listed building. The cathedral replaced St Mary's Church (the Old Chapel), which had been constructed by Bishop Lennan in 1789 and which, for forty years, doubled as both a parish church and quasi-cathedral, two bishops having received episcopal consecration there. Newry Cathedral, dedicated under the joint patronage of St Patrick & St Colman, was designed by the city's greatest native architect Thomas Duff; work began in 1825, with the basic building completed in 1829. Built of local granite, it was the first Catholic cathedral in Ireland opened after Catholic Emancipation. Work continued to enlarge and beautify the cathedral at various stages in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: the tower and transept were added in 1888 and the nave was extended in 1904 under the supervision of Bishop Henry O'Neill.

Saint Patrick's Church is a Church of Ireland church in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. The church is believed to have been built in 1578 on the instructions of Nicholas Bagenal, who was granted the monastery lands by Edward VI, and is considered to be the first Protestant church in Ireland. The church was, however, rebuilt in its current form in 1866. The church is of granite and sits on a hill on Church Street on the east side of the city and occupies a commanding position overlooking the city centre. The church is notable for its unusual spire – consisting of a small steeple at each corner of the clock tower. This may have prompted Jonathan Swift, on his first visit to the town, to issue the following comment on Newry: 'High Church, Low Steeple; Dirty Streets, Proud People'. The church was listed "B+" in 1976.

Newry Town Hall is a municipal structure in Bank Parade in Newry, Northern Ireland. It was built on a specially-constructed bridge across the Newry River, which forms part of the historic border between County Armagh and County Down. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Newry Urban District Council, is a Grade B1 listed building.

John Mitchel GFC was a Gaelic Athletic Association club, established in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, in 1956, and is called after the Irish Patriot John Mitchel. The club had the audacious ambition of winning the Down Senior Football Championship in five years and actually succeeded in four years, winning its first in 1960 and repeating the feat three more times in that decade in 1964, 1967 and 1968. Newry Mitchels forward Seán O'Neill also won 3 All-Ireland Senior Football Championships with Down and was picked on the Gaelic Athletic Association's teams of the Century and Millennium. Mitchels home pitch is Gerry Brown Park, Greenbank. The grounds are named after Gerry Brown, founding member. Gerry managed the Down Senior football team to All-Ireland success in 1968. The club also has club rooms in Kilmorey street, on the County Down side of Newry. Mitchels currently are defunt Having used to compete in the Down Junior Championship. Club colours are red and white. The club hosts an annual under 10 tournament known as 'The Mitchels Blitz' and 'The under ten All Ireland'.

Newry was a borough constituency of the town of Newry in the Irish House of Commons until 1800. After the Acts of Union 1800, the town was represented by one MP in the United Kingdom House of Commons.

The attack on Cloghoge checkpoint was an unconventional railway bomb attack carried out on 1 May 1992 by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) against a British Army permanent vehicle checkpoint, manned at the time by members of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The IRA's South Armagh Brigade fitted a van with train wheels that allowed it to move along a railway line. A large bomb was placed inside the van, which was then driven along the railway line to the target. The explosion killed one British soldier and injured 23 others. The complex, just north of the village of Cloghoge in County Armagh, on the southern outskirts of Newry, was utterly destroyed.

The 2010 Newry car bombing occurred on the night of 22 February 2010. It exploded outside a courthouse in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, damaging the building and others in the area. There were no fatalities or injuries.

On 28 February 1985, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) launched a heavy mortar attack on the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) base at Corry Square in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. The attack killed nine RUC officers and injured almost 40 others; the highest death toll ever suffered by the RUC. Afterwards, a major building scheme was begun to give police and military bases better protection from such attacks.
