Scotts Corner is a hamlet in Orange County, in the U.S. state of New York. It is located in the town of Montgomery

Valley Central High School is located in Montgomery, New York. It educates students in grades 9-12 in the Valley Central School District, which includes much of the town of Montgomery, portions of neighboring Wallkill and Newburgh and the three villages of Maybrook, Montgomery and Walden as well as parts of Campbell Hall and Coldenham.

Maybrook Yard was a major rail yard located in Maybrook, New York. It was the western gateway of its long-time owner, the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and its predecessors. It was here that freight cars were interchanged between railroads from the west and the New Haven, whose Maybrook Line headed east over the Poughkeepsie Bridge to the railroad's main freight yard at Cedar Hill Yard in New Haven, Connecticut.The rail line through the yard was finished in 1889 by the Hudson Connecting Railroad. The yard was soon acquired by the Central New England Railway, but traffic never justified more than one yard and a five-stall roundhouse. The yard was transformed after control of the Maybrook Line was purchased in 1904 by the New Haven who saw it as an easier way to get their heavy freight traffic across the Hudson River than using barges in New York City. To handle the new traffic the yard was dramatically expanded in 1912 to three miles in length with six separate yards including two hump yards. A new 10-stall roundhouse with a 95-foot turntable replaced the original and was later expanded to 27 stalls. Also added was a large icing plant for refrigerator cars. At its height, the yard had 177 tracks totaling over 71 track-miles.By the 1950s the yard had shrunk to 99 tracks and around 50 track-miles. In 1960 both hump yards were converted to conventional yards with flat switching. By the mid-1960s, freight switching activity had fallen to what it was before the New Haven gained control as connecting railroads shut down or merged, allowing the remaining traffic to run-through without being switched. The Penn Central's acquisition of the New Haven in 1969 resulted in connecting traffic with the Erie Lackawanna being discouraged as it competed with other Penn Central routes. After 1971 only one train in each direction (for the Erie Lackawanna) stopped, but only to change crews. Traffic through the yard ended abruptly in 1974 when the Poughkeepsie Bridge burned and was not repaired, severing the Maybrook Line. By then the yard had already closed.For much of its existence six class I railroads interchanged traffic at the yard with the New Haven Railroad. In 1956 the yard saw 19 arrivals and 18 departures of which 14 were operated by the New Haven, eight by the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway, seven by the Erie Railroad, four by the New York, Ontario and Western Railway, two by the Lehigh and New England Railroad and two by the New York Central Railroad.Today much of the former yard has been converted into a Yellow Freight truck facility. Rail service is still provided to customers in Maybrook by the Middletown and New Jersey Railroad on tracks owned by Norfolk Southern.

The Peale's Barber Farm Mastodon Exhumation Site, near Montgomery, New York, is the site of an 1801 exhumation of a mastodon which became "the world's first fully articulated prehistoric skeleton". The exhumation was led by artist/scientist Charles Willson Peale.The site was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 20, 2009. The listing was announced as the featured listing in the National Park Service's weekly list of November 6, 2009.The mastodon skeleton is exhibited at the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt in Darmstadt, Germany, though it was returned to the US for a temporary exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Milliken-Smith Farm is a historic home and farm complex located at Montgomery in Orange County, New York. Contributing buildings include the Milliken-Smith house (built in 1770 and expanded about 1870), a large timber-frame barn dated to the 18th century, a light frame chicken house (c. 1900), and a banded wood storage silo. The earliest portion of the house is a 1+1⁄2-story timber-frame building. It was expanded during the 1870s with a 2-story light frame addition. A non-historic addition was completed in 1962.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Benjamin Haines House, also known as the Haines Farmstead and the Haddon-Scott House, is one of the oldest buildings in the Town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States. It is located at 114 Coleman Road southeast of the village of Walden.Built by Haines around 1750, the house later passed into the ownership of the Haddon and then Scott families. Members of the latter owned it until 1994. Improvements and renovations in the early 19th century gave it a Greek Revival look.It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1996.

The John Blake House is located on Homestead Avenue (NY 208) in Maybrook, New York, United States. It is a brick building from the late 18th century, one of the oldest houses in the village John Blake, a prominent local politician, built the house around an earlier log cabin. A wing was added in the mid-19th century, but it has not otherwise been altered. In 1984 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a well-preserved example of the kind of home built by settlers of English descent in the early years of the Federal style of American architecture.

The Nathaniel Hill Brick House, locally referred to as just the Brick House, is located on NY 17K in the Orange County, New York Town of Montgomery. It was built in 1768 by Hill, one of the earliest settlers of the region. His family has lived there ever since. Nathaniel Hill was born in 1705, emigrated from Ireland in about 1725, and died May 5, 1780. At the time of his death, he was the owner and possessor of some 700 acres (2.8 km2) of land. Hill originally built a home in the town of Crawford, New York, which he only lived in for two years. He left that home to his son James, who made Applejack Brandy there. The first public record of Hill is his enlistment in Captain Bayard's militia in 1738. The Brick House was passed down for seven generations, from Nathaniel Hill, to Captain Peter Hill (July 22, 1752 – October 14, 1795), to Nathaniel Peter Hill (Feb. 14, 1781 – May 2, 1841), to Augustus Hill (May 4, 1838 – November 2, 1903) to Charles Borland Hill (June 5, 1868 – 1959), to C.B. Hill, Jr. (Nov. 30, 1901–?), to C.B. Hill III (May 26, 1931–?). But it was originally made as a retirement house for Nathaniel Hill. The house was featured in Good Housekeeping magazine, the December 1968 edition. The house was donated by C.B. Hill, Jr. on Dec. 26, 1975, to the County of Orange, it was entered on the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 5, 1978, and opened as a museum June 22, 1978. Much of the original design and appointments (including some Chippendale furniture pieces) remain, though improvements have been made. In the 1830s the Hills added a large rear wing to the house and renovated part of the interior; almost a century later indoor plumbing was added.The Hills have cooperated with the county in allowing the land around the house to be used as a park, and the Orange County Farmers' Museum. It and their house are open 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on weekends between mid-May and early October (actual dates vary each year). Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

The Montgomery Water Works is located along NY 17K in the village of Montgomery, New York. The two small brick buildings were built in 1895 on land sold to the village by Arthur Patchett, whose own house still stands across the road. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. As of 2007 a new senior housing development has been built near the water works. Workers had to take care to avoid damage to the building.

The John A. Crabtree House is a historic house located at 15 Factory Street in the village of Montgomery, Orange County, New York.

The Patchett House is located at Ward Street (NY 17K), on the junction with Factory Street, in Montgomery, New York. It was originally built in the early 19th century as a tavern serving travelers on the Newburgh–Cochecton Turnpike, whose eastern half 17K follows today. Arthur Patchett, at the time co-owner of the Montgomery Worsted Mills at the end of Factory Street on the Wallkill River, moved into the house sometime in the 1890s. His family continued living there until the 1970s. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Later on, though, it remained vacant and by the end of the century had fallen into serious neglect and disrepair. In 2005, serious renovations were undertaken and today the house looks as good as new. The most recent tenants are the nonprofit artist's environmental cooperative Wallkill River School. A nearby townhouse complex is named Patchett Crossing. The Montgomery Water Works, built on land originally owned by the Patchetts, stands almost just across 17K, and the Orange County Choppers production facility is just up the street.

The Montgomery Worsted Mills, known today as Montgomery Mills, is along the Wallkill River at the end of Factory Street in the Orange County village of Montgomery, New York. It was one of the earliest efforts to harness the river for industrial purposes. Founders Arthur Patchett and William Crabtree became prosperous and upstanding citizens who left their mark on the community they lived in. Many of the homes on the nearby stretch of Factory Street were built by them for their family, and their descendants still live in the Montgomery area. The mills are still in operation too, but are no longer property of the family or used to mill textiles. While they sell yarn, today the mill is primarily an electric power generation station. A deal is in the works to make it a City Winery.
