North Providence, Rhode Island

North Providence High School (often abbreviated NPH or NPHS) is a public high school in North Providence, Rhode Island, United States that serves grades 9-12. It is part of the North Providence School District and its sports teams compete in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. North Providence, whose school colors are blue and gold, is home to the Cougars. The high school graduated its first class in 1940. In 1992, part of the school burned down while school was still in session. Trailers were placed in the parking lot and used as classrooms while a new wing was built. The school grounds include a football and baseball field. Within the building there are three gymnasiums, a fitness and training room, and a wood shop. The school was formerly equipped with tunnel access to the town’s Natatorium Complex at the Salvatore Mancini . North Providence High employs 116 faculty and staff for the student body of approximately 1,300 students. North Providence High School holds the distinction of having the highest graduation rate in the state of Rhode Island with 98% of seniors graduating in 2016.

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital (more commonly Fatima Hospital) is a for-profit hospital in North Providence, Rhode Island, which opened in 1954. The hospital is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. The Diocese merged St. Joseph and Our Lady of Fatima Hospitals in the 1970s.

The Captain Stephen Olney House is a historic site in North Providence, Rhode Island. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a pair of interior chimneys. The principal exterior decoration is in the front door surround, which features pilasters supporting an entablature and gable pediment. The house was built in 1802 by Stephen Olney, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, on what was then a large farm. His descendants enlarged the house in the 1840s, adding an ell to the south.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection is one of the largest research collections devoted to the history and iconography of soldiers and soldiering, from circa 1500 to 1945. Formerly a private collection, it was donated to the Brown University Library in 1981. Mrs. John Nicholas Brown (Anne Seddon Kinsolving Brown, 1906–1985) began collecting toy soldiers in 1930, but within a few years had moved on to acquiring graphics and monographs depicting or describing military uniforms. In the years following the Second World War, the collection increased dramatically, so much so that the Brown family were advised to move the archive out of their house for fear of causing structural damage from the weight. Today, the collection is located on the top floor of the John Hay Library situated on the Brown University campus. Besides approximately 5,000 toy soldiers (additional figures can be found in the Annmary Brown Memorial on the Brown campus), the main focus of the collection are over 15,000 prints, drawings, paintings and watercolors. There are also photographs and sheet music covers. The graphics depict soldiers in battle, on parade, genre scenes, caricatures, military portraits, and uniform studies. Every major country is represented, with France, the United Kingdom, Germany and the German states being the largest sections. Other important parts focus on Austria, Russia, the United States and elsewhere. Complementing the graphic collection are over 20,000 books, and thousands of albums, sketchbooks, scrapbooks and portfolios. The monographs include army lists, regimental histories, biographies, campaign histories, humor, royalty and ceremonies, costume and early travel, uniform books, drill, tactics and regulation. There are many contemporary military regulations as well as a small collection of manuscript material.

The Joseph Smith House is a historic house at 109 Smithfield Road in North Providence, Rhode Island, United States. It is a 2½-story wood-frame house, six bays wide, with a shed-style addition to the rear giving it a saltbox appearance. The oldest portion of this house, built around 1705, is a classical Rhode Island stone-ender house, whose large chimney has since been completely enclosed in the structure. The lower levels of this chimney are believed to predate King Philip's War (1675–76), when the previous house was burned. The 1705 house was built by Joseph Smith, grandson of John Smith, the miller, one of Rhode Island's first settlers. It was greatly enlarged in 1762 by Daniel Jenckes, a judge from a prominent Rhode Island family, for his son, and was for many years in the hands of Jenckes' descendants. The house is the only known surviving stone-ender in North Providence.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Otis Angell Gristmill is a historic mill in Governor John Notte Memorial Park, North Providence, Rhode Island. Built about 1855, it is a well-preserved example of a small 19th-century industrial site, with a stone mill building and a small mill pond. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. The mill building now serves as a local community center.

Elmhurst is a primarily residential neighborhood in the northwest quadrant of Providence, Rhode Island. Douglas Avenue and Admiral Street bound Elmhurst to the northeast, Academy Avenue and Smith Street bound it to the west, while Chalkstone Avenue marks the southern border.

WPVD (1290 AM) is a public radio station in Providence, Rhode Island. It is owned by Rhode Island Public Radio. The station simulcasts WNPN 89.3 FM. WPVD transmits with 400 watts by day, 16 watts by night, using a one-tower omnidirectional antenna. The transmitter is off Douglas Avenue in North Providence.On November 23, 2018, the FCC granted a construction permit for W275DA, an FM translator station on 102.9 MHz. On September 30, 2021, 102.9FM began broadcasting from the same tower was WPRO-FM.

The Whipple–Angell–Bennett House is an historic house at 157 Olney Avenue in North Providence, Rhode Island. It is a 1+1⁄2-story gambrel-roofed wood-frame structure, four bays wide, with a series of additions extending it to the north and east. Built in 1766, it is one of only two surviving gambrel-roofed 18th-century houses in North Providence. Its additions exhibit the adaptive reuse of and changes in vernacular style in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The interior of the house has retained a great deal of integrity, with original woodwork, plasterwork, and door hardware.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The Heaton and Cowing Mill is a historic industrial facility at 1115 Douglas Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island. The small mill complex consists of three connected building sections; the oldest is a c. 1832 rubble-walled two story mill building constructed by David Heaton and Martin Cowing on the banks of the West River. The partners used the facility to manufacture and dye cotton cloth. The building is the remnant of a much larger Geneva Worsted Company works that Heaton and Cowing built on the site in the 1860s and 1870s.

Louisquisset (known previously as Louisquissuck and Loquassuck and Loquasquocit) is a village in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and North Providence, Rhode Island. The area was first settled in the 1660s when the colonial Providence government granted land to John Whipple and other settlers to acquire land title from the Native Americans in the area. In 1682 Old Louisquisset Pike was laid out to serve the main road through the area connecting Providence to Limerock and the old road continues to serve travellers as modern day Rhode Island Route 146 and Rhode Island Route 246. Louisquisset Country Club and other businesses in the area continue to use the Louisquisset name. Many historic buildings are preserved in the region, including: the seventeenth century Jenckes House on Old Louisquisset Pike.

The State Home and School for Dependent and Neglected Children was a state institution for children in Providence, Rhode Island. Following the American Civil War, states assumed new responsibilities for the care of adults and children living in poverty or with serious illnesses. The State Home, and organizations like it across the country, sought to remove dependent children from adult correctional institutes, almshouses, and juvenile reformatories. It was located on a cottage-plan campus in what was originally rural western Providence, on a former gentleman's farm. The school was established in 1884 and operated until 1979, when its remaining functions were taken over by other state organizations. Most of its surviving grounds and buildings are now on the Rhode Island College East Campus, and have been listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.
