Ylä-Malmi (Finnish), Övre Malm (Swedish) is a northern neighborhood of Helsinki, Finland. Many of Malmi's most important services are located on Ylä-Malmi side, such as the church, schools, hospital and police station.

Malmi station (Finnish: Malmin rautatieasema, Swedish: Malms järnvägsstation) is a railway station in the Malmi district of Helsinki, Finland. It is located between the stations of Pukinmäki and Tapanila, along the main railroad track from Helsinki to Riihimäki, about 11 kilometres (7 mi) north from Helsinki Central. Malmi station was opened in 1871 to serve a nearby army training ground and received new station buildings in 1873 and 1878. The third station building was constructed 1932–1934, and was electrified in 1969. The current station building was completed in 1986, and Helsinki commuter rail services began to call at this station in 1988. Malmi station was also the starting point of the Malmi Cemetery Railway (fi:Malmin hautausmaan rautatie) branch line, which served funeral trains heading towards Malmi Cemetery from 1895 until 1954.

Malmi (Finnish: [ˈmɑlmi]; Swedish: Malm) is a regional center and a major district on the north-eastern part of Helsinki, Finland. It has a population of 24,312 (2008). The Malmi District (Finnish: Malmin kaupunginosa) is divided into six subareas, two of which are the center forming Ylä-Malmi ("Upper Malmi") and Ala-Malmi ("Lower Malmi"), and the rest are Pihlajamäki, Tattariharju, Malmin lentokenttä (Malmi airport) and Pihlajisto. Malmin peruspiiri is a related but distinct subdivision of Helsinki (used for certain administrative purposes) which does not include Pihlajamäki and Pihlajisto, but instead includes Tapanila and Tapaninvainio. The population of this area is approximately 27,800. Its main transport links include the main railway dividing the city center into Ylä-Malmi and Ala-Malmi, as well as the ring road called Ring I (Finnish: Kehä I) in the southern part of the district. Along the railway, Malmi has its own railway station. The Malmi Airport is located in the eastern part of the district. Also, Malmi is home to the Malmi Cemetery, the largest cemetery of Finland. The Malmi shooting range hosted the pistol and rifle shooting events of the 1952 Summer Olympics.

The Tapaninkylä dumping ground was a dumping ground in Helsinki Rural Commune, present Tapaninkylä, Helsinki. It was taken to use by The Finnish State Railways in 1903, and it was in use until 1944. In 1946, the area was annexed to Helsinki. The area is now known as the Hiidenkivi Park.

Tapanila (Swedish: Mosabacka) is a neighbourhood in Malmi district, Helsinki. Tapanila has approximately 5474 inhabitants (2005). Tapanila has its own railway station. It is known that there were few farm houses in Tapanila already in the 16th century. Back then Tapanila was one of the biggest villages in Helsinki area. In 1862, railroad between Hämeenlinna and Tapanila was built. Tapanila was largely rebuilt from 1910–1935 based on Letchworth Garden City in England, the first in the Garden city movement. The area was annexed to Helsinki in 1946. There is also Franzén croft in Tapanila, where, according to auricular tradition, the Finnish national author Aleksis Kivi lived in 1870.

Tapanila (Finnish) or Mosabacka (Swedish) is a railway station in the Tapanila district of Helsinki, Finland. It is located between the stations of Malmi and Puistola, along the main railroad track from Helsinki to Riihimäki, about 13 kilometres northeast from the Helsinki Central railway station. The original station building at Tapanila has been moved to Pikku Huopalahti as a part of cultural heritage.

Viikki (Swedish: Vik) is a neighbourhood of about 5,500 inhabitants in Helsinki, Finland. It is located at the bottom of Vanhankaupunginlahti bay, some 7–10 km from the city centre. The district hosts the Viikki Campus with four of the faculties of the University of Helsinki (biosciences, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and agriculture and forestry) as well as other university units such as research centres, science library and teacher training school. Viikki is known for its natural environment. The conservation area of Vanhankaupunginlahti is an important place of nesting and migration for birds. Large fields and farmlands are cultivated by a teaching farm that is part of the university's agricultural faculty. Southernmost part of the Latokartano residential zone is known as an "ecological housing" area. Many apartment buildings there have, for instance, experimental solar and wind energy systems installed. Viikki is divided into the sub-areas of Viikki science park, Latokartano, Viikinranta and Viikinmäki. In the 2000s the population of the district has increased steadily. This is because some areas of Viikki — especially in Latokartano and Viikinmäki — have been among the most important sites in Helsinki for the construction of new apartments. By 2015, the total population of the district is expected to be around 15,000.

The Malmi Cemetery (Finnish: Malmin hautausmaa; Swedish: Malms begravningsplats) is a large cemetery located at the corner between Ring I and the Lahti Highway (E75) in the Malmi district in Helsinki, Finland. It is the largest cemetery in Finland in terms of both area and number of burials. It was a former training and camp site for soldiers under the administration of the Finnish Crown. In the early 20th century, Malmi Cemetery even had its own train connection and water tower. Many well-known Finns also rest in the Malmi Cemetery, e.g. actors Tauno Palo, Matti Pellonpää and Ansa Ikonen, singers Olavi Virta, Tapio Rautavaara and Laila Kinnunen, designer Birger Kaipiainen, and one of the Winter War heroes, Captain Aarne Juutilainen.

The Viikki Campus (Finnish: Viikin kampus, Swedish: Campus Vik) is a campus area of the University of Helsinki in Finland, focusing on biological sciences. It comprises following units: Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Faculty of Biosciences Faculty of Pharmacy Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Institute of Biotechnology Viikki Science LibraryBesides these units of the University of Helsinki, the campus area also hosts the Helsinki Science Park and the Finnish Food Safety Authority. The campus is located in the rapidly developing area of Viikki in Helsinki, about 10 km from the city center. It is closely associated with the Helsinki Business Park. The nearby arboretum, nature conservation area of Vanhankaupunginlahti and the experimental farm form a rare haven of countryside and wildlife at the heart of the capital city area. At the center of the campus lies the Viikki Info Center, which is unique in Finland, as it hosts both the local municipal public library and a scientific library serving the Viikki Campus.

Pihlajisto (Finnish), Rönninge (Swedish) is a northern-central quarter in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is part of the Malmi neighbourhood.

Viikki Church (Finnish: Viikin kirkko, Swedish: Viks kyrka) is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Viikki district of Helsinki, Finland. Completed in 2005, it is the newest of the city's church buildings. The church was designed by architect Samuli Miettinen of JKMM Architects. The church is part of Malmi parish.The church is mostly wooden: the floors, ceiling, walls and pillars are made of spruce and the outer cladding and double shingling are aspen. Furnishings are made of oak and aspen.The church seats 200 people; when combined with the parish meeting hall the capacity is 400.
