Gammelholm

The Copenhagen Fire of 1795 (Københavns brandes 1795) started on Friday, 5 June 1795, at or around 3 pm by the Navy's old base south east of Kongens Nytorv on Gammelholm, in the Navy's magazine for coal and timber, the so-called Dellehave. As the workers had already gone home, a considerable length of time passed before efforts to combat the fire started, and out of fear for theft, the fire hydrants had been removed. The people of Holmen also blocked the civilian fire brigade, possibly in the belief that since it was a military area, the military should take care of it.There had been an extended period without rain and the dry wood, combined with the storage of rope work and tar, made the fire spread quickly. The wind blew especially strong from east-southeast, and that meant the countless embers were carried through the air into the city. Because of the strong sunlight, small fires were difficult to detect until they have taken hold. This is why the fire spread from Gammelholm to the main magazine along Holmens Canal (Holmens Kanal Danish) and over Holmens Canal to the quarter around Saint Nicolai Church and from there, along Gammel Strand to the area around Nytorv/Gammeltorv.

The Levin House (Danish: Levins Gård or Levins Hus) is a Historicist property located on Gammelholm's Havnegade waterfront in central Copenhagen, Denmark. Designed by Johan Daniel Herholdt and completed in 1866, it is one of the first buildings that was completed after the former Naval dockyard came under redevelopment in the 1860s. The building is today owned by the Karberghus company and occupied by a law firm. It was listed in 1978.

Nyhavn 6 is a Neoclassical building situated on the quiet southern side of the Nyhavn canal in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It was listed in the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1950. Composer Carl Nielsen and sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen had their first home together in the garret in the 1890s.

Nyhavn 8 is an 18th-century property overlooking the Nyhavn canal i central Copenhagen, Denmark. It was listed in the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1918. A sandstone tablet with inscription above the arched main entrance commemorates a time when Dragør skippers used to stay in the building during the winter months.

The Danish National Art Library is the national research library for architecture, art history, visual arts and museology in Denmark. It was founded in 1754 as part of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and has been located at Charlottenborg's Nyhavn Wing in Copenhagen. It became an independent, self-owning institution in 1996. The library is a member of the Danish Association of Research Libraries.

Nordisk Frøkontor (lit. "Nordic Seed Office") was a Danish wholesaler of seeds founded in 1879 at Havnegade in the Gammelholm neighbourhood of central Copenhagen, Denmark. Its former headquarters at Havnegade 39, a listed warehouse which predates it with 10 years, has been converted into serviced offices.

Lightvessel No. XVII Gedser Rev (Danish: Fyrskib XVII Gedser Rev) is a decommissioned lightvessel built in 1895, now serving as a museum ship in Helsingør, Denmark, having formerly been stationed in the Nyhavn Canal in Copenhagen. It is owned by the National Museum and takes its name after Gedser Rev south of Falster where it was stationed most of its working life.

Nyhavn 18 is a listed property overlooking the Nyhavn canal in central Copenhagen, Denmark. The writer Hans Christian Andersen lived on the first floor from 1871 until shortly before his death on 4 August 1875. The building has now been converted into residences for visiting guest artists and scientists.

Havnegade is a waterfront promenade in central Copenhagen, Denmark, which runs between Knippelsbro and the mouth of the Nyhavn canal. Most of the street is lined with buildings from the 1860s and 1870s that were constructed as part of the redevelopment of the Gammelholm naval dockyards. It is the only place along Copenhagen's main harbourfront where residential buildings of that age face the water, although older warehouses and other industrial buildings elsewhere have been converted into residential use. The Modernist Bank of Denmark building is located at the western end of the street.

Nyhavn 20, also known as the Boel House (Danish: Boels Gård), is a listed property overlooking the Nyhavn canal in central Copenhagen, Denmark. A plaque on the facade commemorates that Hans Christian Andersen lived in the building when he had his first fairytale published.

The Navigation School (Danish: Navigationsskolen) is a former educational institution in Copenhagen, Denmark. Its Historicist building on Havnegade (Havnegade 23) is listed.
