Glengarriff Forest

Glengarriff (Irish: An Gleann Garbh, meaning 'the rough glen') is a village of approximately 140 people on the N71 national secondary road in the Beara Peninsula of County Cork, Ireland. Known internationally as a tourism venue, it has a number of natural attractions. It sits at the northern head of Glengarriff Bay, a smaller enclave of Bantry Bay. At 18 kilometres (11 mi) northwards along the N71 road from Bantry, and 33 kilometres (21 mi) eastwards along the R572 road Castletownbere, it is a common stopping-point along the routes around the area.

Garinish or Garnish Island (Irish: Garinis) (also known as Ilnacullin) is an island in Glengarriff Bay, an inlet of Bantry Bay, near the shore of the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland. It is a tourist attraction with walled gardens and a Martello tower.

Bonane or Bunane (Irish: An Bunán) is a small village in County Kerry, Ireland, approximately 10 kilometres from Kenmare. It is within the Sheen River valley, between the Sheehy and Caha Mountains. The area is home to a number of archaeological sites.

The Whiddy Island disaster, also known as the Betelgeuse incident or Betelgeuse disaster, occurred on 8 January 1979, around 1:00 am, when the oil tanker Betelgeuse exploded in Bantry Bay, at the offshore jetty for the oil terminal at Whiddy Island, Ireland. The explosion was attributed to the failure of the ship's structure during an operation to discharge its cargo of oil. The tanker was owned by Total S.A., and the oil terminal was owned by Gulf Oil. The explosion and resulting fire claimed the lives of 50 people (42 French nationals, seven Irish nationals, and one British national). Only 27 bodies were recovered. A further fatality occurred during the salvage operation with the loss of a Dutch diver.

Sugarloaf Mountain (Irish: Gabhal Mhór) is one of the Caha Mountains, southwest of Glengarriff in County Cork, Ireland. It is a pointed mountain with a height of 574 metres (1,883 ft).The English name refers to the mountain's likeness to a sugarloaf. The Irish name Gabhal Mhór means "big fork", with the lower neighbouring peak called Gabhal Bheag, "little fork", or Gowlbeg Mountain. These names seem to have developed from Sliabh na Gaibhle, "mountain of the fork", likely referring to a confluence of streams. The anglicised form Slieve Gowl is found in several 19th-century sources.

Bonane Heritage Park is a private archaeological preserve and tourist attraction between Bonane and Kenmare in County Kerry, Ireland. The area is surrounded by the Sheehy and Caha Mountains. It is home to a number of archaeological remains, including ring fort and stone circle sites. Some studies have indicated that some of these archaeological remains "may well have had an astronomical significance".

Priest's Leap (Gaelic Léim an tSagairt) is a steep and nearly straight single-lane mountain pass between Coomhola Bridge and the village of Bonane east of the more winding road from Bantry to Kenmare in Ireland. Just below the summit of the 519 m high mountain with the same name, it is the highest pass road in Munster at 463m, crossing from County Cork to County Kerry.

U.S. Naval Air Station Whiddy Island was a seaplane station operated during the last year of World War I and commissioned 4 July 1918. Located on Whiddy Island in Bantry Bay, County Cork, Ireland, it was also known as Bantry Bay Station. The base was used for anti-submarine warfare patrols by Curtiss H-16 seaplanes.

Bantry Aerodrome is a small privately owned airfield 1.5 NM (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) west south-west of Bantry in County Cork, Ireland. It was constructed in the 1970s by the Rowa Pharmaceutical Corporation.The landing strip is near the coast, with both runway ends less than hundred metres away from the water. The nearest international airports are Cork Airport to the West, and Kerry Airport in Farranfore, County Kerry to the North.

Durrus is a washed rind cow's milk cheese from Ireland. It was developed by Jeffa Gill in 1979, and is made by traditional methods. Durrus is produced in the valley of Coomkeen, near the village of Durrus on the Sheep's Head Peninsula in County Cork Ireland, where local herds provide the raw milk needed to make it.Durrus is a round, semi-soft cheese. It has a pale interior with a pinkish, yellow-grey rind. It is aged for 3 to 5 weeks to allow the flavour to mature. It has a mild and creamy taste that becomes stronger and fruitier as it ages. The odour is mild to strong, depending on age. Durrus should be served at room temperature, and is best with fruit (such as a pear), on toast, and in fondue.

La Cascade was the previous restaurant of Sheen Falls Lodge, a hotel outside the town of Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland. It is a fine-dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star each year in the period 1993 to 1998.During the period the restaurant was awarded the Michelin star, the head chef was Fergus Moore.The restaurant changed name to The Falls in 2018 when it and the hotel changed ownership.

Coomkeen (Irish: Com Caoin) is a townland located near Durrus in West Cork, Province of Munster, Ireland. It is a small valley home to approximately 14 families, it is also the home of the world-famous Durrus Cheese.
