South Mountain Reservation, covering between 2,047 and 2,112 acres (between 8.28 and 8.54 km2), depending on the source, is a nature reserve on the Rahway River that is part of the Essex County Park System in northeastern New Jersey. It is located in central Essex County, New Jersey within portions of Maplewood, Millburn, and West Orange. It borders South Orange between the first and second ridges of the Watchung Mountains.Carved from wilderness at the end of the 19th century, designed by Olmsted Brothers, and developed over a few decades, the reservation has changed only slightly through the years. Preserved primarily in its wild state, woodlands abound in a variety of hardwood trees, and tall hemlocks tower above streams, creeks and ponds, and waterfalls. Higher points, such as Crater View, offer vistas of the New York and Jersey City skylines, Elizabeth, Union Township, and Staten Island.

Aquinas Academy (AQA) is a private coeducational Roman Catholic school located in Livingston, New Jersey that serves students from preschool through eighth grade. The school was founded in 1952 by Monsignor William McCann and the educational guidance of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell, New Jersey. The school is located on the campus of St. Philomena Parish (a Roman Catholic church) and operates under the supervision of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.The Academy is situated on the 30-acre (120,000 m2) campus of Saint Philomena Parish. The original building, known today as McCann Hall, was formerly the Orange Rest Home. Throughout the years, additional buildings including a gymnasium, were added to the campus. As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 156 students (in K-8, plus 85 in PreKindergarten) and 13.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.6:1.

Turtle Back Zoo is a zoo in West Orange, New Jersey. Situated on 20 acres (8.1 ha) in the South Mountain Reservation, it is part of the South Mountain Recreation Complex, which is managed as part of the Essex County Park System, the oldest county park system in the United States. Founded in 1963, the zoo was originally a showcase for animals indigenous to the New York metropolitan area but currently features species from every continent except Antarctica. As of 2018, it houses approximately 1400 animals, including several hundred birds in a free-flight aviary. Located adjacent to the Richard J. Codey Arena, the former practice home of the New Jersey Devils, the zoo is open year-round, weather permitting. The Turtle Back Zoo has been an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 2006. In 2017, the zoo became an accredited member of ZAA (Zoological Association of America).

The Richard J. Codey Arena at South Mountain (formerly the South Mountain Skating Arena) is an ice hockey and ice skating arena in West Orange, New Jersey as part of the South Mountain Recreation Complex. The arena is named for former Governor of New Jersey Richard Codey. The Codey Arena is owned and operated by the Essex County Department of Park, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs.

The Essex Skating Club (also known as ESC and Essex SC of NJ) is a figure skating club based at Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange, New Jersey. The club has teams and over 300 skaters who compete in many national competitions.

Canoe Brook is a tributary of the Passaic River in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It runs behind several municipal buildings in Livingston such as the police station and town hall. Its average depth is about 6 inches (15.2 cm) deep, but its water level can rise to well more than a foot (30.5 cm) during heavy rains. In the early 1980s a flood claimed the lives of three kids rafting in a flood. The flood waters went nearly to the bridge on Northfield, completely over the bridge at East Hobart Gap and finally went across East Hobart Gap Road by Burnett Street, where it flooded a home. The home was torn down shortly thereafter. In the mid 1980s the brook was reconstructed of concrete and stone from the Swan Street area to East Hobart Gap Road. During Hurricane Floyd in 1999, the river overflowed its banks, well over three meters in some places, as the volume of water was too great to pass through the culverts under the residential bridges, flowed over them and through nearby homes as well. The brook is also a historic waterway as a sawmill alongside the brook near what is now Northfield Avenue. It was used as an early power source by the town's early settlers in the 19th century. Also, one of the oldest buildings in Livingston, the Force Hill homestead, lies only a short distance upstream.

The South Mountain Recreation Complex is a 36-acre recreation facility in Essex County, located within the boundaries of the South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, New Jersey, United States. The complex is managed as part of the Essex County Park System. Activities at the complex include a zoo, ice skating/hockey rinks, a safari-theme miniature golf course, a forest adventure park, a restaurant, paddle boats, a nautical theme playground, and a 1.75 miles (2.82 km) walking loop around the Orange Reservoir.

Livingston High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Livingston, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as part of the Livingston Public Schools. It receives all eighth grade graduates from Heritage Middle School. It is the only high school in the Livingston Township. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1958.Livingston High School offers 28 Advanced Placement (AP) courses within eight department areas. The school's principal is Danielle Rosenzweig; her administration team includes three assistant principals.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,971 students and 181.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.9:1. Millburn is a suburban township in southwestern Essex County, within the U.S. state of New Jersey, and part of the New York metropolitan area. In 2000, Millburn had the 6th-highest per capita income in the state, with $76,796. Based on data from the 2006–2010 American Community Survey, the township had a per-capita income of $84,663, ranked 10th in the state. Based on data from the American Community Survey for 2013–2017, Millburn residents had a median household income of $202,862, ranked highest in the state among municipalities with more than 10,000 residents, more than double the statewide median of $76,475.
