Paranoá River

The São Bartolomeu River Basin Environmental Protection Area (Portuguese: Área de Proteção Ambiental da Bacia do Rio São Bartolomeu) is a protected area in the Federal District, Brazil.

The Federal District (Portuguese: Distrito Federal [dʒisˈtɾitu fedeˈɾaw] ) is one of 27 federative units of Brazil. Located in the Center-West Region, it is the smallest Brazilian federal unit and the only one that has no municipalities, being divided into 35 administrative regions. The federal capital of Brazil, Brasília, which is also the seat of government of the Federal District, is located in its territory. The Federal District is almost completely surrounded by the state of Goiás, but it shares a small border with Minas Gerais.

Paranoá is an administrative region in the Federal District in Brazil. It is located to the east of Paranoá Lake, being bordered by Lago Norte, Itapoã and Planaltina to the north, São Sebastião and Jardim Botânico to the south. It shares a border with Lago Sul and Brasília through Paranoá Lake. Paranoá was founded on October 25, 1957, receiving the status of administrative region, according to Law 4545, of December 10, 1964. As of a 2010 census, it has a population of 46,527.

Itapoã (Portuguese pronunciation: [itapoˈɐ̃]) is an administrative region in the Federal District in Brazil. Itapoã was founded on January 3, 2005, receiving the status of administrative region, according to Law 3527, of January 3, 2005. It is bordered by Sobradinho to the north, Paranoá to the south, and Lago Norte to the west.

Jardim Botânico is an administrative region in the Federal District in Brazil. The administrative region is basically made up of gated communities. The area formerly belonged to the Taboquinha and Papuda farms, although there is controversy regarding the correct delimitation of each. Jardim Botânico was founded on December 13, 1999, receiving the status of administrative region, according to Law 3435, of August 31, 2004.

The Palácio da Alvorada (Portuguese pronunciation: [paˈlasju dawvoˈɾadɐ]) is the official residence of the president of Brazil. It is located in the national capital of Brasília, on a peninsula at the margins of Paranoá Lake. The building was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and built between 1957 and 1958 in the modernist style. It has been the residence of every Brazilian president since Juscelino Kubitschek. The building is listed as a National Historic Heritage Site.The Palácio da Alvorada is used as a residence and for official receptions. The president's workplace and center of the executive branch is the Palácio do Planalto.

Lake Paranoá (Portuguese: Lago Paranoá, pronounced [ˈlagu pɐɾɐnuˈa], [ˈlagu paɾɐnoˈa]) is an artificial lake in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. During construction of the city, the Paranoá River was dammed to form the lake. It is at an altitude of 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) and has a circumference of 80 km (50 mi). On its shores are embassies and consulates, sports clubs, restaurants, the residential areas of Lago Sul and Lago Norte, the University of Brasília, the Olympic Center, and the Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the president of Brazil.

Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge (Portuguese: Ponte Juscelino Kubitschek), commonly called Ponte JK (English: JK Bridge), is a steel and concrete arch bridge across Lake Paranoá in Brasília, Brazil. It connects the eastern shore of the lake – where Lago Sul, Paranoá and Brasília International Airport are located – to Brasília's city center, via the Monumental Axis. Opened to traffic on December 15, 2002, its distinctive silhouette quickly became a Brasília landmark.The bridge is named after President Juscelino Kubitschek, who served from 1956 to 1961 and is generally considered the main political figure to have supported the construction of the planned city of Brasília. It was designed by architect Alexandre Chan and structural engineer Mário Vila Verde.

The Retiro Island (Portuguese: Ilha do Retiro) is the second largest of the three islands of Lake Paranoá in Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brazil. It is approximately 1.0 hectare, is located close to the ML 7 of Lago Norte neighborhood and is declared Lake Paranoá Ecological Reserve. The other two islands are Paranoá Island and Clubes Island.

The Clubes Island (Portuguese: Ilha dos Clubes) is the smallest of the three islands of Lake Paranoá in Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brazil. It is approximately 6m² in surface, is located close to the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge. The other two islands are Paranoá Island and Retiro Island. [1]
