John's Lane Church

The Augustinian Friary of the Most Holy Trinity was an Augustinian (Order of Saint Augustine (mendicants)) Roman Catholic Priory, founded c. 1259, by the family of Talbot on the south bank of the river, in what is now Crow Street, Dublin. At the time the priory was built, it was just outside the city walls. The Friary most likely followed the design of the parent priory Clare Priory in the town of Clare, Suffolk (England). The Friary was suppressed in 1540 when it was described as a "church with belfry, a hall and dormitory". The friars continued to operate in secret within the city. and there are several mentions of them in the city archives until the late 1700s when they consecrated a new church. Very little is known of the Augustinian Friary, and the full extent of the friary lands and ancillary buildings have not yet been established, though the area contained by Temple Lane, Temple Bar, Fownes Street Upper and Cecilia Street, is believed to mark the boundaries of the friary. In 1281 Geoffrey FitzLeones and his wife Joanna made a gift of the rents of their lands to the Friary. The site is shown on John Speed's map of 'Dubline' (1610)(number 11), has been partially excavated, and is listed on the National Monuments Service database, Those excavations revealed c. 70 burials of late 12th -14th century (1993), surviving remains of the friary on the east side of Cecilia House (1995 (test excavations)) and in 1996 excavations exposed a section of wall with a relieving arch and a corner tower.

Vicar Street is a concert, performing arts centre and events venue in Dublin, Ireland. Located on Thomas Street, Dublin 8, Vicar Street has capacity for 1,050 people for seated performances and 1,500 people for standing gigs. The venue is owned by Harry Crosbie and operated by Peter Aiken. Since opening in 1998, the venue has become a popular setting for a wide range of acts including stand-up comedy, drama performances and a variety of concerts. The first artist to play on the Vicar Street Stage was local singer/songwriter Shay Cotter. Major international recording artists have performed in Vicar Street, such as Bob Dylan in 2000, Neil Young in 2003, Adele in 2008, Paul Simon and Ed Sheeran in 2011, and Lana Del Rey in 2013. Because of its intimate size, the venue is one looked on with warmth by fans and acts alike.

NIVAL (National Irish Visual Arts Library) is a public research resource which is dedicated to the documentation of twentieth- and twenty-first-century Irish visual art and design. It collects, stores and makes available for research documentation of Irish art and design in all media. NIVAL's collection policy encompasses Irish art and design from the entire island, Irish art and design abroad, and non-Irish artists and designers working in Ireland. NIVAL is sustained by material contributions from artists, arts organisations and arts workers. Information is also acquired from galleries, cultural institutions, critics, the art and design industries, and national and local authorities responsible for the visual arts. NIVAL is housed on the campus of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin.

The Black Dog was a prison in Newhall Market, now Cornmarket, in Dublin, Ireland. The Black Dog was located in Browne's Castle, which became a tavern from which the prison got its name. From the early 18th century the Black Dog functioned as the main debtors' prison in Dublin. The length of a prisoner's stay was determined largely by the whim of his creditors. It was run privately for profit; beds could be rented from the head warder for one shilling a night. Those who could not afford a bed were consigned to a damp airless dungeon, about 12 feet (3.6 m) square and eight feet (2.4 m) high, which had no light except that which was admitted through a sewer, which ran close by it and rendering the atmosphere almost insupportable.One section of the prison was called the "nunnery" because it was used to hold prostitutes who had been captured by the parish watch.In the 17th century the senior Aldermen of the city and other members of the Dublin Corporation were given power to run the prisons. These functionaries were accustomed to commit the entire management of this department of their offices to clerks, who paid their employers a percentage on all fees received. In 1729 the gaoler, John Hawkins was tried for mismanagement and corruption. The House of Commons of Ireland decided that "John Hawkins, Keeper of His Majesty's gaol of Newgate, and Sheriff's Marshalsea of the city of Dublin, had been guilty of the most notorious extortion, great corruption, and other high crimes and misdemeanors, in the execution of his said offices; had arbitrarily and unlawfully kept in prison, and loaded with irons, persons not duly committed by any magistrate, till they had complied with the most exorbitant demands; and had put into dungeons and endangered the lives of many prisoners for debt under his care, treating them, and all others in his custody, with the utmost insolence, cruelty, and barbarity, in high violation and contempt of the laws of this kingdom." He was dismissed from his office.

The Tivoli Theatre was a theatre on Francis Street in The Liberties, Dublin which opened in 1934 and operated until 2019 when it was demolished and replaced by "StayCity Aparthotel Tivoli", a 4-star hotel.

The National College of Art and Design (NCAD) is Ireland's oldest art institution, offering the largest range of art and design degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the country. Originating as a drawing school in 1746, many of the most important Irish artists, designers and art educators have studied or taught in the college. NCAD has always been located in central Dublin, and in 1980 it relocated to the historic Liberties area. The College has around 950 full-time students and a further 600 pursuing part-time courses, and NCAD's students come from more than forty countries. NCAD is a Recognised College of University College Dublin. It is also a member of the European League of Institutes of the Arts.

St. Catherine's is a Roman Catholic church on Meath Street, Dublin that is in use today. It was dedicated in 1858 and is the second church to occupy the same site. There is also a small grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes located on the grounds.

The Brazen Head is a pub in Merchant's Quay, Dublin. It was built as a coaching inn in 1754, on the site of a merchant's dwelling dating back to at least 1613. Local tradition claims that the site has housed a tavern or alehouse since 1198, although there is no documentary evidence to support this. Kelleher claims it first received a licence to sell ale in 1661, and the first mention of it as an inn occurs in 1668.

The Church of St. John the Evangelist was a Church of Ireland church located on the west side of Fishamble Street in the centre of Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in the 12th century, and a great many of its parish records survive.

St Audoen's Church () is the church of the parish of Saint Audoen in the Church of Ireland, located south of the River Liffey at Cornmarket in Dublin, Ireland. This was close to the centre of the medieval city. The parish is in the Diocese of Dublin and Glendalough. St Audoen's is the oldest parish church in Dublin and still used as such. There is a Roman Catholic church of the same name adjacent to it.

Ormond Quay Presbyterian Church is a former church located at Ormond Quay, Dublin. There was a congregation of Presbyterians, many of Scottish extraction, in Dublin around Ormond Quay since the early 18th century, a Mr. Arbuckle being the first minister. It was first established in 1707 in Ushers Quay after a split within the congregation of Bull Alley. The congregation from the Plunket Street Meeting House(Presbyterian church) merged with Usher's quay in 1844. The construction of the church was financed by a bequest from a widow, Martha Maria Magee (née Stewart) from Lurgan, County Armagh, who had moved to Dublin. She had inherited a large sum of money from her brothers, both soldiers. The church was designed by architect Edward P. Gribbon and erected in 1847. It was enlarged to the design of the same architect in 1859.In 1938 the Ormond Quay congregation merged with the Abbey Street congregation. Ormond Quay became the home of the Dublin City Mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland until the late 1940s when it was acquired by Dublin Corporation under compulsory purchase.In the 1960s the church building was damaged by fire, and the upper section was removed by Dublin Corporation. In 1989 the ground floor facade was incorporated into a new office building erected on the site called Grattan Bridge House at 3 Ormond Quay Upper. In 2003, the Ormond Quay and Scots Church voted to merge with the Clontarf Presbyterian Church, sanctioned by the General Assembly to create the Clontarf & Scots Presbyterian Church, and they moved to Clontarf, Dublin.
