Howsham Hall is a 28,336 square feet (2,632.5 m2) grade I listed Jacobean stately home in Howsham, North Yorkshire, England. It is built in two storeys of limestone ashlar to a U-shaped plan with a 7-bay frontage.

Howsham railway station was a short-lived railway station between the villages of Howsham and Crambe in North Yorkshire, England. Located on the York to Scarborough Line (where the level-crossing now is). It was opened on 5 July 1845 by the York and North Midland Railway and closed in 1849. It is shown as "Crambe station" on Moule's 1850s maps of North and East Yorkshire, and as Crambe Beck Station in John Philips's Geology of Yorkshire.

Howsham Mill is a Grade II listed 18th century watermill located on the River Derwent in North Yorkshire, England. Howsham Mill dates back to c. 1755 and is attributed to John Carr of York. It was built in the Gothic Revival style both as a working grist mill to grind grains into flour and as an eyecatcher or folly within the formal parkscape of nearby Howsham Hall. The mill was powered by a breastshot waterwheel connected by a gear wheel to millstones that grind the grain into flour. Milling of flour ceased in 1947 and the building fell into decay by the 1960s. In 2004 the Renewable Heritage Trust was formed by local residents with the intention of preserving and restoring the mill. Fund raising, volunteer labour and grant funding, totalling £450,000 has enabled the installation of a new waterwheel and a screw turbine based on the Archimedean screw principle to generate electricity and help fund the project in the long term. The first phase of the restoration was completed in 2007 and involved installing the new waterwheel and Archimedean screw as well as rebuilding the walls and roof of the granary to the north of the main building, allowing the installation of a kitchen and toilets as well as housing the control equipment for the hydro generation. The Mill was connected to the National Grid in 2010, allowing electricity generated to be sold. Restoration of the main part of the building was completed in 2013 providing facilities as an environmental study/community centre. A second, larger screw was commissioned in 2018 to provide additional hydro-electric generating capacity. In 2006 Howsham Mill was featured on the BBC television programme Restoration Village presented by Griff Rhys Jones. It won the North regional heat and was featured in the live National Final on Sunday 17 September 2006. Although Howsham Mill did not win, a £50,000 Project Planning grant was won by reaching the final. St Michael's Church is the parish church of Crambe, North Yorkshire, a village in England. The earliest parts of the current church date from the late 11th century, and consist of part of the north and south walls of the nave, along with the chancel arch. The chancel was rebuilt in the 12th century, and in the 13th century, the nave was lengthened to the west by about 17 feet (5.2 m). In the 14th century, the angle between the chancel and nave was reconstructed, with two windows inserted. In the 15th century, a tower was added at the west end, and the west wall was rebuilt, with buttresses added. The church was restored in 1886 and 1887, with a new east window installed. The building was Grade I listed in 1954. The nave and chancel are built in sandstone and gritstone incorporating re-used Roman masonry, and the tower is in limestone. The church consists of a two-bay nave, a single-bay chancel and a west tower. The tower has three stages, string courses, diagonal buttresses, a round-headed west doorway with a moulded surround and a hood mould, above which is a five-light Perpendicular window. The bell openings have two round-arched heads, and above is an embattled parapet with eight crocketed pinnacles, and an inscription on the north face. Inside the church is a 12th-century font. The octagonal pulpit dates from the early 17th century, as do the altar rails. There is a fragment of a 10th-century hogback built into the south wall.

Crambe is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is near the River Derwent and 6 miles (10 km) south-west of Malton. The population as of the 2011 census was less than 100. Details are included in the civil parish of Whitwell-on-the-Hill. The village is located in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The father of the renowned mathematician Karl Pearson was born in the village.

The ruins of Kirkham Priory are situated on the banks of the River Derwent, at Kirkham, North Yorkshire, England. The Augustinian priory was founded in the 1120s by Walter l'Espec, lord of nearby Helmsley, who also built Rievaulx Abbey. The priory was surrendered in 8 December 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Legend has it that Kirkham was founded in remembrance of l'Espec's only son who had died nearby as a consequence of his horse being startled by a boar. The area was later used to test the D-Day landing vehicles, and was visited by Winston Churchill. The ruins are now Grade I listed and a scheduled monument in the care of English Heritage.

Kirkham Abbey railway station was a minor railway station serving the village of Kirkham in North Yorkshire, England on the York to Scarborough Line and was opened on 5 July 1845 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed on 22 September 1930. The station was originally just named Kirkham, but the 'Abbey' suffix was added on 1 June 1875, to take into account the proximity of the ruins of Kirkham Priory.

Scrayingham is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. The population was less than 100 at the 2011 census. Details are included in the civil parish of Howsham, North Yorkshire. The village is situated approximately 9 miles (14 km) north-east from the centre of the city and county town of York. Scrayingham is significant for being the parish where George Hudson was born and buried. Today the area has a horse riding school, a few small businesses and a mixture of modern stone cottages built in the Georgian style, and traditional preserved cottages from earlier times. It also has a post office. The hamlet of Leppington, 2 miles (3.2 km) to the north-east, forms part of the parish. In 1823 Scrayingham was a civil parish in the Wapentake of Buckrose and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The living for the ecclesiastical parish and the parish church of St Peter's was under the patronage of the King. Population at the time was 157, with occupations including nine farmers, two tailors, a cooper, and the landlord of The Horse & Jockey public house. Kirkham is a village in the civil parish of Westow, in North Yorkshire, England, close to Malton, situated in the Howardian Hills alongside the River Derwent, and is notable for the nearby ruins of Kirkham Priory, an Augustinian establishment. Kirkham was historically an extra parochial area in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It became a civil parish in 1866. On 1 April 1935 the civil parish was abolished and merged into the civil parish of Firby. In 1931 the parish had a population of 31.In 1974 it was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire. From 1974 to 2023 it was a part of the Ryedale district and when the parish of Firby was abolished it joined the parish of Westow. Kirkham was served by Kirkham Abbey railway station on the York to Scarborough Line between 1845 and 1930.John Oxley (1785-1828), an explorer of south-east Australia, was born here.

Whitwell-on-the-Hill is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district, in the county of North Yorkshire, England. The civil parish population (including Crambe and Foston) at the 2011 Census was 311. It is near the A64 road.The local parish church is dedicated to St John. Langdale's 1822 Topographical Dictionary reports "a well of remarkably clear water, from which the town derives its name". The 1828 The New Yorkshire Gazetteer or Topographical Dictionary by Stephen Reynolds Clarke states that Whitwell is "6 miles S.W. from Malton [has] a singular well, the water of which is nearly the colour of milk, and from which the township derives its name."

Westow is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. Westow is situated in the lee of Spy Hill, bordering the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 3 miles (4.8 km) from the A64 road linking Leeds to the East Coast, 5 miles (8 km) west of the town of Malton, and 15 miles (24 km) east of the city of York. The village was within the historic boundaries of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. From 1974 to 2023, it was part of the Ryedale district. It is now administered by North Yorkshire Council. The village has traditional associations with agriculture and is a popular sporting area in the summer. There are regular Pétanque tournaments in the village involving teams from all over Yorkshire. Westow has a village cricket team with records dating back to 1875. The civil parish also includes the hamlets of Firby and Kirkham. The population of the civil parish was 339 in the 2011 Census. Neighboring villages are Crambe, Whitwell-on-the-Hill, Welburn, Howsham, Leavening and Burythorpe.

Castle Howard railway station was a minor railway station serving the village of Welburn and the stately home at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire, England. On the York to Scarborough Line it was opened on 5 July 1845 by the York and North Midland Railway. The architect was George Townsend Andrews. It closed to passenger traffic on 22 September 1930 but continued to be staffed until the 1950s for small volumes of freight and parcels.The station was often used by the aristocracy, notably Queen Victoria when she visited Castle Howard with Prince Albert as a guest of Earl of Carlisle in August 1850.
