Eden railway station

Kilroot power station is a fossil fuel power plant on the north shore of Belfast Lough at Kilroot near Carrickfergus in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The plant currently has a 141 megawatt (MW) capacity from four standby Gas Turbines and a 10 MW battery energy storage capacity from the Kilroot Advancion Energy Storage Array. When coal power generation stopped in September 2023, it was the only remaining coal-fired power station operating in Northern Ireland, and it had a 560 megawatt (MW) capacity from dual coal and oil fuelled generators. The station once produced a third of the country's electricity, and was also one of County Antrim's top 100 employers in 2010 (or before).Since the privatisation of Northern Ireland Electricity in 1992, the power station has been owned by the AES Corporation. In 2019 it was sold to a subsidiary of Energetický a průmyslový holding.

Kilroot (from Irish Cill Ruaidh 'church of the redhead') is a townland, population centre and civil parish in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies to the east of Eden, on the outskirts of Carrickfergus on the northern shore of Belfast Lough. It is within the Mid and East Antrim Bourgh council area.

Eden is a residential settlement on the eastern edge of Carrickfergus in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, located within a larger electoral ward area of the same name. It is intersected by the Larne Road, a small section of the extensive Antrim Coast Road that connects Carrickfergus to Whitehead and the major ferry port of Larne.

Kilroot was a station located in the village of Kilroot, close to the town of Carrickfergus, in Northern Ireland. At one time it was the last in a tight cluster of stations, each located almost one minute from the other, from Mount railway station through to the halt at Kilroot. The station closed in 1977 when Northern Ireland Railways services were cut back. It has now been dismantled, and all traces were lost whenever Kilroot power station was constructed in the late 1970s.

Boneybefore ( BON-ee-bi-for) is a village near Carrickfergus in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies between the A2 road and Belfast Lough. It is home to the Andrew Jackson Centre (also known as the Andrew Jackson Cottage), the ancestral home of Andrew Jackson, 7th president of the United States.

Downshire Community School was a co-educational, 11-18 secondary school in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, situated on Downshire Road. Downshire is a Specialist School in Business Studies and Enterprise with Sport. The school opened in 1977 and currently has an enrolment of 803 pupils and 59 teachers. The school includes twenty general classrooms occupied by the English, Drama, Media Studies, Mathematics, Business Studies, Social Studies, French, Special Educational Needs and Religious Education Departments. Two Computer Suites, two Music Rooms with separate sound-proofed Practice Rooms, a Business Studies room with Computer network facility, six Science rooms, Animal House and Art Block with Dark Room, Technology and Design block consisting of three multi-material manufacturing rooms, one systems/multi manufacturing room, one systems design room and three planning areas. Two Home Economics rooms, a careers area, Library, Lecture Theatre with Drama area, a cafeteria, a sports block with Sports Hall, Minor Games Area, Social Area, Coffee Bar, Committee Room, Changing and Shower rooms. Externally there are extensive playing fields with three all-weather pitches and two grass pitches and a Garden area. The largest block of the school building has three floors. Facing east the third floor classrooms include panoramic views across Belfast Lough, and the County Down coastline. The Art and Technology corridors circle an enclosed garden, the garden is an extensive plot of trees and a large rockery. The garden is also home to the schools pet club and garden club. Downshire School merged with Carrickfergus College and they became Carrickfergus Academy Downshire also has a youth club which operates weekdays Monday-Thursday. The club has many activities such as football.

Downshire railway station serves eastern Carrickfergus in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This station opened on 1 April 1925 and was known for most of its early life as Downshire Park. Northern Ireland Railways renamed the halt in the late 1970s. The station's signposts prior to the 2008 refurbishment named the station as "Downshire Halt", a name by which the station is still locally known. The Belfast-bound platform was extended during summer 2011 to allow longer trains to operate. The Larne-bound platform was similarly refurbished in early 2012.

Carrickfergus Borough Council was a district council in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. It merged with Ballymena Borough Council and Larne Borough Council in May 2015 under local government reorganisation in Northern Ireland to become Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. The council was based at Carrickfergus Town Hall and the council administered the town, on the north shore of Belfast Lough, and surrounding area, which extended from Greenisland in the south-west to Whitehead in the east. The borough was 32 square miles (83 km2), with a population of just over 39,000. Together with the neighbouring district of Larne and small parts of Newtownabbey and Moyle, it formed the East Antrim constituency for elections to the Westminster Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly.

Ulidia Integrated College is situated in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. It was opened in 1997 with an initial 63 students. It is the 44th integrated school to be created in the province and provides education for over 530 Catholic and Protestant children.

Barn (also known as Barn Halt) was a station located in the town of Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland. At one time it was part of a tight cluster of stations in the Carrickfergus area, each located one minute from the other. The station closed in 1977 when Northern Ireland Railways services were cut back. All remnants of the station were cleared away during track re-laying in 1997, however its old footbridge still remains in use as a pedestrian crossing over the railway line..

Carrick Rangers Football Club is a semi-professional Northern Irish football club playing in Irish League Premiership. The club, founded in 1939, hails from Carrickfergus, County Antrim and plays its home matches at Taylors Avenue which is known as the Loughview Leisure Arena due to sponsorship reasons, which is owned by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. Carrick Rangers main rivals are Larne, with matches between the sides being known as, "The East Antrim Derby." Ballyclare Comrades are also local rivals. Club broke with tradition and welcomed Michelle O'Neill as First Minister showing the strong inclusive ethos of the club.

Taylors Avenue is a football stadium in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is the home stadium of local football team Carrick Rangers F.C., but owned by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. Taylors Avenue has a capacity of 6,000. There are two covered stands, with the rest of the ground made up of open terracing.
