The district was created in 2004 when it was merged with Edmonton-Highlands and Edmonton-Norwood. This inner-city northeast Edmonton riding has the second lowest average income in Alberta, as well as being one of the most ethnically diverse. This riding and its predecessor ridings have voted NDP in six of the last seven elections. Neighborhoods in this riding include: Highlands, Bellevue, Montrose, Newton, Virginia Park, Cromdale, Parkdale, Alberta Avenue, Boyle Street, McCauley, Eastwood & Riverdale. The riding is currently held by the Alberta NDP's Janis Irwin.

It is one of 87 districts mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. It was most recently contested in the general election of 2019. The riding is located in north central Edmonton. It was created in the 2004 boundary redistribution out of a small part of Edmonton-Manning and most of Edmonton-Glengarry. The riding is named after Laurence Decore, former Leader of the Opposition and Mayor of Edmonton. Neighborhoods in this riding include: Kildare, Killarney, Northmount, Evansdale, Belle Rive, Mayliewan, Delwood, Glengarry & Balwin. The riding has been held by representatives of the Progressive Conservative, Liberal, and New Democratic parties since it was created. The current representative is New Democratic Party MLA Chris Nielsen, who was first elected in the 2015 general election.

Coliseum station is an Edmonton Light Rail Transit station in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It serves the Capital Line. It is located at 78 Street and 118 Avenue, near Northlands Coliseum, and is built on an overpass above 118 Avenue (Alberta Avenue).

Northlands Coliseum is a now-unused indoor arena located in Edmonton, Alberta, situated on the north side of Northlands. It was used for sports events and concerts, and was home to the Edmonton Oilers of the World Hockey Association (WHA) and National Hockey League (NHL), and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The arena opened in 1974, and was later known as Edmonton Coliseum, Skyreach Centre, and Rexall Place, before returning to the Northlands Coliseum name in summer 2016. The arena hosted the 1981 and 1984 Canada Cup hockey tournaments, the 1978 Commonwealth Games, seven Stanley Cup finals (Oilers losses in 1983 and 2006, and Oilers victories in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990), many other hockey events, along with other sporting events and major concerts. The final NHL game played at the arena was on April 6, 2016. The building closed on New Year's Day 2018, after ownership of the facility was transferred from Northlands to the City of Edmonton. Northlands had planned to re-develop the arena into a multi-level ice facility, but these plans were scrapped after it was found that renovating the facility would be more costly than building a new one altogether.

Griesbach is a developing community in the Castledowns area in northwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This mainly residential neighbourhood was formerly the site of a military base, part of CFB Griesbach. The land was transferred to Canada Lands Company to redevelop it. It remains a project of the Crown corporation.The neighbourhood is bounded on the north by 153 Avenue, on the east by 97 Street, on the south by 137 Avenue, and on the west by Castle Downs Road. Travel north along 97 Street provides access to the current CFB Edmonton. Travel south along 97 Street provides access to the downtown core and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. The area is expected to be accessible by the Metro Line LRT in the future. Shopping and services are available just east of the neighbourhood at Northgate Centre and North Town Centre. Both malls are located at the intersection of 137 Avenue and 97 Street at Griesbach's south east corner. Shoppers Drug Mart opened in November 2016 in Griesbach Village, located in the southeast corner of the neighbourhood. The community is represented by the Griesbach Community League.
