The University of Salford is a public research university in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) west of Manchester city centre. The Royal Technical Institute, Salford, which opened in 1896, became a College of Advanced Technology in 1956 and gained university status in 1967, following the Robbins Report into higher education. It has 21,500 students and is in 160 acres (65 hectares) of parkland on the banks of the River Irwell.

Salford Museum and Art Gallery, in Peel Park, Salford, Greater Manchester, opened to the public in November 1850 as the Royal Museum and Public Library. The gallery and museum are devoted to the history of Salford and Victorian art and architecture.

The Working Class Movement Library (WCML) is a collection of English language books, periodicals, pamphlets, archives and artefacts, relating to the development of the political and cultural institutions of the working class created by the Industrial Revolution, in Salford, Greater Manchester, England.

The Peel Building is a building at the University of Salford located in their Peel Park campus adjacent to the A6 Crescent and is the university's oldest building in current use.

Salford Acoustics offers acoustics and audio engineering courses, undertakes public and industrial research in acoustics, carries out commercial testing, and undertakes activities to engage the public in acoustic science and engineering. It is based in two locations: (i) 3 km west of Manchester city centre, UK, in the Newton Building on the Peel Park Campus of the University of Salford, and (ii) on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Manchester at MediaCityUK.

Peel Park is a public urban park in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, located on the flood plain of the River Irwell below Salford Crescent and adjacent to the University of Salford. It was the first of three public parks to be opened on 22 August 1846, for the people of Manchester and Salford, paid for by public subscription. The park was the main public venue for the 1851 royal visit of Queen Victoria to Manchester and Salford and has been the subject of a number of paintings by the Salford artist, L.S. Lowry. Peel Park fell into disrepair during the latter part of the twentieth century but underwent a £1.6m refurbishment in 2017 after a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. It was added to the Rgister of Historic Parks and Gardens by Historic England in December 2023.

Windsor Bridge railway station served the suburb of Pendleton, historically in Lancashire, England, from 1838 to 1856 on the Manchester and Bolton Railway. On the 1848 OS map, Windsor Bridge is where The Crescent crosses the railway. Today, this is the site of Salford Crescent station.

The Port of Manchester was a port in Salford, North West England, until its closure in 1982. It was created as a customs port on 1 January 1894, four months before the official opening of the Manchester Ship Canal. It extended along the whole 36-mile (58 km) length of the ship canal, from Eastham in the west to Manchester in the east, absorbing the Port of Runcorn, which had been created in 1862. The new port was only 3.74 miles (6.02 km) from the Port of Liverpool's boundary at Herculaneum Dock, and 2.4 miles (3.9 km) from the Port of Garston. The ship canal transformed Manchester from a landlocked city into a major sea port, at its height the third-busiest port in the United Kingdom. Once delivered to the port, goods could be transported to other parts of the country such as Leeds to the east, and up to 100 miles (160 km) south as far as Birmingham.

Salford Crescent railway station is a railway station in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, opened by British Rail in 1987. The station is 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Salford Central, 1.75 miles (2.82 km) west of Manchester Victoria and 2.25 miles (3.62 km) west of Manchester Piccadilly. It consists of a single island platform with a ticket office and waiting room. The station is near the University of Salford, between the Peel Park and Frederick Road Campus. Salford Crescent is the point of a split in the Manchester–Preston line, with local services running on to Manchester Victoria and long-distance services going to Manchester Piccadilly (via the 1988 Windsor Link to Ordsall Lane Junction), and is also part of the line between Manchester and Southport, frequently being used as an interchange between the two lines. Manchester North signalling centre was formerly located at the station, prior to its closure in April 2015. Ticket gates have been in operation at the station since 2016.

The Windsor Link is a 700-metre railway line in Salford, Greater Manchester that connects Salford Crescent and Manchester Deansgate stations. It was opened by British Rail in May 1988, and came into full use in 1989. This link allows services from the Manchester–Preston line and the Manchester–Southport line, from the north-west of Manchester (such as from Southport via Wigan Wallgate and Bolton, also from Blackpool North and Lancaster via Preston) to directly access Manchester Piccadilly station: Before the link was opened, services from these lines could only run into Manchester Victoria, although indirect access for services from Wigan or Preston to Manchester Piccadilly had been possible via the West Coast Main Line's connection to the Chat Moss route; the northern route of the Liverpool-Manchester lines. Services then continue south east to and from Piccadilly to destinations such as Manchester Airport, Buxton, Hazel Grove and Chester. Government approval for the link was granted in 1985, and it was built for £12.5 million.The link has its west end just south of Salford Crescent station where it forms Windsor Bridge Junction (hence the name) and ends half a mile later at a junction with the route of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway at Ordsall Lane Junction, just to the west of the former Ordsall Lane station. Trains using the link then run along that route for a very short distance before turning off onto the route of the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway to reach Deansgate, Manchester Oxford Road and Piccadilly.As part of the electrification of the line between Manchester and Preston the link was electrified in December 2018.

Oldfield Road railway station served the western part of Salford, in North West England, between 1852 and 1872.

Salford Lads' Club is a recreational club in the Ordsall area of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The club, on the corner of St. Ignatius Walk and Coronation Street, was established in 1903 as a boys' club but today welcomes people of both sexes and organises activities including sports and exhibitions. The club was officially opened on 30 January 1904 by Robert Baden-Powell, who later founded the Scout movement. Former members include footballers Albert McPherson, Steve Fleet, Eddie Colman and Brian Doyle, Allan Clarke, lead singer of 1960s pop group The Hollies, and Graham Nash, guitarist, songwriter and singer with The Hollies who went on to form Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.The building gained listed status in 2003 as its tiled interior is virtually unchanged with original fittings and includes a boxing ring, snooker rooms and a gym with a viewing balcony. English Heritage said: "The building is thought to be the most complete example of this rare form of social provision to survive in England." In 2007, the Manchester Evening News reported that the building, which was used for the sleeve of The Smiths album The Queen Is Dead, came third in a nationwide hunt to find the most iconic buildings in the country.
