Corofin, County Clare

Corofin is a parish in County Clare and part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. The parish is an amalgamation of the medieval parishes of Rath and Kilnaboy (or Killinaboy). At least since 1731 both parishes are administered by one priest.As of 2021 co-parish priests are Damien Nolan and Pat O'Neil.The main church of the parish is the Church of St. Brigid in Corofin, completed in 1823. This is possibly the first Catholic church in County Clare designed by an architect.The second church of the parish is the "Church of St. Joseph" in Kilnaboy. This church was built in 1967. It replaced a barn church built in 1846 (now a garage). Tradition wants that this barn church was a replacement of a mass house built in 1725.Third church of the parish is St. Mary in the townland Roxton, part of the former parish of Rath. This church was built in 1869 and replaced an older church in the townland Liscullaun.

O'Dea Castle, also known as Dysert O'Dea Castle, is an Irish fortified tower house, loosely described as a castle at Dysert O'Dea (Irish: Dísert, meaning 'hermitage'), the former O'Dea clan stronghold, 5 kilometres (3 mi) from Corofin, County Clare. It was built between 1470 and 1490 by Diarmaid O'Dea, Lord of Cineal Fearmaic, and stands some 50 feet (15 m) high on a limestone outcrop base measuring 20 by 40 feet (6 by 12 m). The tower is adjacent to Dysert O'Dea Monastery, close to the R476 road.

The Battle of Dysert O'Dea took place on 10 May 1318 at Dysert O'Dea near Corofin, Ireland. It was part of the Bruce campaign in Ireland. The Norman Richard de Clare attacked the Gaelic Irish chieftain Conchobhar Ó Deághaidh, chief of the Cineal Fearmaic and ally of Muircheartach Ó Briain, but he was defeated.

Dysert (Irish: An Díseart, meaning 'hermitage') is a civil parish in County Clare, Ireland. The parish was formerly called Dysert O’Dea, from its having been the territory of the sept of that name. It is part of the ecclesiastical parish of Dysart and Ruan. The ruins of O'Dea Castle and a 12th-century church of Dysert O'Dea Monastery are in the townland of the same name.
