Thomas Paine National Historical Association

The Thomas Paine Monument is a bronze sculpture located in New Rochelle, New York, dedicated to perpetuating the legacy of Founding Father Thomas Paine. The monument stands on North Avenue at the entrance to Paine Avenue, between the Thomas Paine National Historical Association to the north and the property of the Huguenot and Historical Association of New Rochelle to the south. This is the oldest extant memorial to Thomas Paine. The original monument erected in 1839 consisted of just a tapered marble pedestal and decorative cap. A bronze bust of Paine was later added in 1899.

The Thomas Paine Cottage in New Rochelle, New York, in the United States, was the home from 1802 to 1806 of Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense and Revolutionary War hero. Paine was buried near the cottage from his death in 1809 until his body was disinterred in 1819. It was one of a number of buildings located on the 300 acre farm given to Paine by the State of New York in 1784, in recognition of his services in the cause of Independence. It was here in August 1805 that he wrote his last pamphlet, which was addressed to the citizens of Philadelphia on "Constitutional Reform". The cottage has been owned by the "Huguenot and New Rochelle Historical Association" and has been operated as a historic house museum since 1910. The cottage is open to the public most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 10–5 p.m.. There are numerous weekend events scheduled at the cottage throughout the year including their Colonial Fair in the spring and Colonial Tavern night during ArtsFest in October and a Toys for Tots drive in December. The cottage hosts many local school field trips.

The Jacob Leisler Monument is a bronze sculpture created by American artist Solon Borglum and located in the city of New Rochelle, in Westchester County, New York. The monument was erected by the Huguenot Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Huguenot Association of New Rochelle to the memory of Jacob Leisler, 17th-century advocate of the Huguenot settlers and said to be the first chief executive of the province of New York to draw his power directly from the people. The unveiling of the statue on June 24, 1913, was the principal event in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of New Rochelle. The monument, cast by the Roman Bronze Works, is the only existing statue of Leisler. Jacob Leisler was German-born and came to North America in 1660 as a soldier in the Dutch West India Company's service. Settling in New Amsterdam (New York), he left the company and prospered in the tobacco and fur trades, becoming a wealthy merchant and being appointed to several public offices in the city, such as justice of the peace and judge. Beginning in 1689, following the English Revolution in 1688 and accession of the Protestant rulers William III and Mary II, he led an insurrection dubbed Leisler's Rebellion, with popular support among the common people, ultimately seizing control of the city and colony from Jacobite officials previously appointed under the deposed King James. He appointed himself as acting Lieutenant Governor of the Province until the governor appointed by William and Mary finally reached New York in March 1691. During this period, he had purchased land from Pelham Manor, reserving a portion to help create the Huguenot settlement of New Rochelle in 1689. He refused to turn over power to a newly appointed lieutenant governor in 1690.Leisler in 1691 was arrested and tried by his personal and political enemies on charges of felony and treason to William III and Mary II, for refusing to give up power to their appointed Lieutenant Governor before the full governor arrived several months later. He and his son-in-law were both executed. Many thought the trial was unjust. Four years later, Parliament reversed the conviction, clearing Leisler's name and restoring his estate to his heirs. They exonerated the late friend of the Huguenots.

New York's 16th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives represented by Jamaal Bowman. The 16th district includes the northern Bronx and the southern half of Westchester County, including the suburban cities of Mount Vernon, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Rye. It also includes the New York City neighborhood of Co-op City. From 2003 to 2013, the district included the neighborhoods of Bedford Park, East Tremont, Fordham, Hunts Point, Melrose, Highbridge, Morrisania, Mott Haven and University Heights. Yankee Stadium, Fordham University and the Bronx Zoo were located within the district. Before redistricting, the 2010 Census found that approximately 38% of constituents in New York's 16th lived at or below the federal poverty line, the highest poverty rate of any congressional district in the nation. These neighborhoods were largely reassigned to the 15th district after redistricting, while the current 16th comprises most of the territory that had previously been the 17th District. The current 16th district, while still containing impoverished areas, such as some neighborhoods of Mount Vernon, also contains affluent areas, such as in Scarsdale and Rye, resulting in a more mixed-income demography. In 2008, the previous version of this district gave Barack Obama his largest victory margin of any congressional district, a margin of 90% (95%-5%). The current configuration of the 16th district is strongly Democratic, though it is not as overwhelmingly Democratic as other districts in the city.

Mahlstedt's Ice Pond, commonly referred to as Huguenot Lake, is a man-made lake located in central New Rochelle in Westchester County, New York. Constructed in 1885, the lake is impounded by the Mahlstedt Reservoir Dam on a tributary of Pine Brook. The dam is of earthen construction and rock fill, with a height of 15 feet (4.6 m) and a length of 7,000 feet (2,100 m). It has a normal surface area of 14 ares (15,000 sq ft), a capacity of 70 acre-feet (86,000 m3), and normal storage of 56 acre-feet (69,000 m3).For years the lake served as a water supply source for nearby Mount Vernon as well as a successful ice supply business. Several generations of the Mahlstedt family harvested ice from the lake, however, after refrigeration made the once-lucrative business obsolete, the family sold the lake and adjoining property to the city in 1922. The lake is currently part of Huguenot Park and the New Rochelle High School campus. It is currently used for recreational and environmental purposes.

New Rochelle High School (NRHS) is a public high school in New Rochelle, New York. It is part of the City School District of New Rochelle and is the city's sole public high school. Its student body represents 60 countries from around the world. It is a two-time Blue Ribbon School and is accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools.96% of graduates attend college or other institutions of higher learning and students earn accolades in competitive national programs including the National Merit Scholarship and the Regeneron Science Talent Search.

Wykagyl Country Club is a golf course in the Wykagyl section of New Rochelle, New York. Through the years, the club has hosted major professional and amateur tournaments and is considered to be one of the premier "classic courses" in the country. The club is private and application for membership is by invitation only.

Seacord Cemetery (also known as the First Methodist Episcopal Churchyard and Methodist Episcopal Cemetery) is a historic cemetery located in the Wykagyl section the city of New Rochelle in Westchester County, New York. The cemetery is located to the south of the First Methodist Episcopal Church building at 1228 North Avenue. By the year 1787 the group which formed this church had become strong enough to buy a piece of property and erect a church. The graveyard adjoining the church on the south and west dates from the purchase of the church lot. The burial plot north of the church building is a family burying ground founded by Israel Seacord, owner of the farm.The section of the community in which this church and cemetery are located was called "Upper Rochelle" at the time and then contained a more important group of Methodists than the lower portion of town. There was no cemetery in this area until after the organization of the church in 1787. At present, there is no boundary line between the two cemeteries, so records include both. Also included here are the names from Saint John's Methodist Church, formerly located on Main where they were removed due to urban development.

The Thornton-Donovan School (TD) was founded as the New Rochelle School and Kindergarten in New Rochelle, New York. It was founded by Judge Martin Jerome Keogh in 1901. The first teacher and headmistress was Emily Scott Thornton, a Philadelphia native educated at University College Nottingham, now the University of Nottingham. The headmaster as of 2018 is Douglas E. Fleming, Jr.The school is now at its third campus, on Overlook Circle in the Beechmont neighborhood of New Rochelle. It inhabits three former homes, including the former Andrew Crawford estate, now the Main Building.

Iona College is a private Catholic college in New Rochelle, New York. It was founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers and occupies a campus of 45 acres (0.18 km2). Iona College offers more than 60 undergraduate programs and 45 graduate programs in the School of Arts & Science and the LaPenta School of Business. The college also offers graduate courses in Manhattan and has 14 study abroad programs. As of academic year 2018–2019, the institution enrolled approximately 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds representing 35 states and 47 countries of origin.

Beechmont (also known as Beechmont Knolls and Beechmont Woods) is an upscale residential community located in the northern end of New Rochelle in Westchester County, New York. Its boundaries are the Town of Mamaroneck on the east, Iona College, Sunset View Park, and City Park on the south, by Huguenot Park on the west and by Forest Heights, Larchmont Woods, and Bayberry on the north. Beechmont is within the larger Wykagyl sub-section of New Rochelle, served by the 10804 zip-code. The United States Board on Geographic Names recognizes Beechmont as the official common name for the neighborhood, which it defines as a populated place existing within the incorporated City of New Rochelle.
