Bryantown, Maryland

Bryantown Historic District is a national historic district in Bryantown, Charles County, Maryland. It consists of 19 contributing buildings, structures, and sites and five non-contributing buildings and structures. The nucleus of the district is a group of four 19th century buildings flanking Old Route 5 west of the former crossroads. Included among these are two c. 1820 structures of major interest, the Bryantown Tavern and Brick House Lot. The latter is notable for its formal Federal design.The two most physically prominent structures in Bryantown are Evergreen and the Smith House; both built near the turn of the 20th century. Evergreen is the finest example of Victorian Carpenter Gothic architecture in Charles County. Also built early in the 20th century are the John T. Mudd House and the Carrico House, both of which are two-story, three-bay dwellings architecturally typical of a rural community in this region. There are also two, two-story, gambrel-roofed tobacco barns located near the northwest corner of the village that preserve the community's ties to the agricultural region it once served and the mid-19th century storehouses of "Boarman and Mudd" and "William N. Bean & Co."It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

St. Mary's Catholic Church is a parish of the Roman Catholic Church located near Bryantown, Maryland, in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Established in 1793, it operates a parochial school and houses a large cemetery. St. Mary's Cemetery is most notably the final resting spot of Dr. Samuel Mudd, a physician who set the leg of John Wilkes Booth the day after U.S. President Lincoln's assassination on April 14, 1865. As such, it is a stop on the Booth's Escape Scenic Byway. Although Catholic worship in Bryantown was recorded as early as 1654, land for a log cabin church was not set aside until 1743. Construction on the current church began in 1846. It was damaged by fire in 1963, rebuilt, and rededicated in 1966.

Oakland is a historic home located near Bryantown, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story, three-bay brick dwelling constructed in the Federal style between 1822 and 1823. About 1880, the Greek Revival entrance and the Italianate front porch were constructed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Lindens is a historic home located near Bryantown, Charles County, Maryland. It is a two-story frame house built during the second quarter of the 19th century in the Federal style. It is in the double parlor plan with Greek Revival mantels and an exterior double chimney. It overlooks the lower fields of the farm and the Zekiah Swamp.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The letters "JFG" are found carved into the chimney with the date 1840. The house sits on His Lordships Place and is privately owned.

St. Catharine, also known as Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House, is a historic house near Waldorf, Maryland. It is a two-part frame farmhouse with a two-story, three-bay side-passage main house with a smaller two-story, two-bay wing. It features a one-story hip-roofed porch across the facade added in 1928. It was at this house where Samuel A. Mudd treated the injured John Wilkes Booth, who was fleeing justice a day after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, following the defeat of the Confederacy in the American Civil War. "St. Catharine" has been in the Mudd family since the 1690s. In 1974, St. Catharine was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Currently, it is operated as a historic house museum.

Regency Furniture Stadium is a 4,200-seat baseball park in Waldorf, Maryland that hosted its first regular season baseball game on May 2, 2008, as the tenants of the facility, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers, 3–2. For the 2010 baseball season, the collegiate summer Southern Maryland Nationals of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League will play select games at the venue. The CRSCBL previously used Regency Furniture for the Mid-Atlantic Classic (see below). With the groundbreaking for Southern Maryland's new stadium, a local company, Regency Furniture, purchased the naming rights for $2.88 million over 10 years.Regency Furniture Stadium is capped by sloping red roofs, similar to the architecture of Churchill Downs, designed to pay homage to the Southern Maryland region's tobacco barns. The left field wall of the ballpark bears a door that allows players to enter the field from the locker room, modeled after the Green Monster at Fenway Park.

Hughesville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Charles County, Maryland, United States. The population was 2,197 at the 2010 census. Truman's Place was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Truman's Place is a historic home located at Hughesville, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2+1⁄2-story brick structure with a smaller two-story brick wing built in the mid-19th century. The house incorporates the brick shell of a 1770, one-story, five-bay dwelling with a kitchen-service wing. Outbuildings include a tenant house with an attached stable, a tobacco barn, a garden shed, and a three-bay garage. The home takes its name from a 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) proprietary manor grant to Nathaniel Truman in 1666.Truman's Place was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

St. Peter's School is a Catholic school located in Waldorf, Maryland. Founded in 1956 by Rev. Henry Sank, it was the first Catholic school in Southern Maryland that was never racially segregated. St. Peter's School is a part of the St. Peter's Catholic Church community and an Archdiocese of Washington Catholic School; it currently offers classes for students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

Thomas Stone High School is a public high school in the eastern section of Waldorf, Maryland, United States, administered by the Charles County Board of Education. The school colors are blue and gold and its mascot is the cougar. It was named after Thomas Stone, a Maryland representative in the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
