Tres Cruces

The Italian Hospital of Montevideo, whose official name is Ospedale italiano Umberto I, (Spanish: Hospital Italiano de Montevideo) is a clinic and sanatorium founded in 1890 near Parque Batlle, Montevideo. It lies just to the north of the 1830 obelisk and the Hospital Pereira Rossell. The building, of the late neoclassical style, is the work of architect Luis Andreoni. The structure, as well as the pillars supporting the basis on which the original model, are the result of a process of construction tardío en a city that, in essence, had just started to expand in the last part of the 18th century, with the arrival of immigrants from Europe after the end of the internal wars and the independence war of the new country. The hospital functions, since then, almost continually for more than 110 years. Its deterioration in time has brought the need for restoration to many of its facilities, including the side and rear facades, which was done with funding supplied jointly by the Uruguayan and Italian governments in 2003.

The Obelisk of Montevideo, officially listed as the Obelisco a los Constituyentes de 1830, is a monument created by sculptor José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín (1891-1975). It is a three-sided obelisk made of granite, 40 metres (130 ft) tall with three bronze statues on its sides, representing "Law", "Liberty" and "Force". It has a hexagonal water fountain around it with six spheres on its outer circumference. It is located at the intersection of 18 de Julio and Artigas Boulevard avenues, in Montevideo, at the entrance of the Parque Batlle area. It was built in 1930 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Constitution of Uruguay and is an homage to the participants of the General Assembly of the first Constitution.Six years later, a similar but larger monument was built at the intersection of 9 de Julio and Corrientes avenues in Buenos Aires, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first founding of the city.

Hospital Pereira Rossell is a hospital in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is located in the barrio of Parque Batlle, just west of the park of the same name. It was founded in 1908 and was built on land donated in late 1900 by Alexis Rossell y Rius and Dolores Pereira de Rossell. It was the first paediatric hospital, and shortly afterwards the first maternity hospital when they installed obstetric and gynaecological clinic in 1915. Later the hospital received a donation from Dr. Enrique Pouey for a radiotherapy unit. It has around 700 beds.

The British Hospital or Hospital Británico is a private hospital in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is located in the barrio of Parque Batlle, just west of the park of the same name. It was first established by the British in the Ciudad Vieja under the name Hospital Extranjero (Foreign Hospital) in 1857. It moved to its current location under the current name in 1913. For more than 40 years it has offered a private health insurance to its members called "British Hospital Scheme".

Avenida 8 de Octubre is one of the main thoroughfares of Montevideo, Uruguay, extending 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from Tres Cruces at the intersection with 18 de Julio Avenue to Maroñas, where it turns into Camino Maldonado. After extending for 250 m, it passes under Artigas Boulevard through a 300 m tunnel, and rises to the surface between Avelino Miranda and Presidente Batlle streets. Extended through La Blanqueada, Unión, and Maroñas, a large number of shops, public institutions, educational centers and hospitals are concentrated on this avenue.

The Crandon Institute (Spanish: Instituto Crandon) is a private bilingual Methodist school in Montevideo, Uruguay. Crandon was founded in 1879 by teacher Cecilia Güelfi as the Liceo Evangélico, or Evangelical High School, and was the first school in the country with roots in the Evangelical movement. Renamed Crandon Institute in 1906 as a tribute to the American Methodist Mrs. Frank P. Crandon, it occupies a central location on the corner of 8 de Octubre Avenue and Garibald in Barrio La Blanqueada, Montevideo.

The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Spanish: Iglesia del Inmaculado Corazón de María), popularly known as San Pancracio (Spanish for "Saint Pancras") is a Roman Catholic parish church in Villa Muñoz, Montevideo, Uruguay.Held by the Claretians, it is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and also to Saint Pancras, patron saint of work and health. For this reason, this church has turned into a pilgrimage destination, with people attending the 12th day, every month of the year.The parish was established on 30 January 1919.

Pista de Atletismo Darwin Piñeirúa is an athletic stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is situated in the Parque Batlle near Estadio Centenario.

The Escuela Multidisciplinaria de Arte Dramático Margarita Xirgu (EMAD) (Spanish for 'Margarita Xirgu Multidisciplinary School of Dramatic Arts') is a public drama school in Montevideo, Uruguay. The institute offers a degree in acting and theater design, as well as a teaching degree in theater and body expression, and a technical degree in dramaturgy.Founded in 1949, it is the first drama school in the country and the only public. In 2010, it was named in honor of the Spanish actress Margarita Xirgu who developed part of her career in Uruguay. For its first 50 years, the school operated in the east wing of the Solís Theatre and after operating in different locations, in 2008 it was established in the Cordón neighborhood.

The University of the Republic (Spanish: Universidad de la República, sometimes UdelaR) is Uruguay's oldest public university. It is by far the country's largest university, as well as the second largest public university in South America and the world's 57th largest by enrollment, with a student body of 137,757 undergraduate students in 2018 and 6,351 postgraduate students in 2012. It was founded on 18 July 1849 in Montevideo, where most of its buildings and facilities are still located. Its current rector is Rodrigo Arim.

The Instituto Alfredo Vásquez Acevedo (Spanish for 'Alfredo Vásquez Acevedo Institute') known by its acronym IAVA, is a public high school in Montevideo, Uruguay. Identified as Liceo No. 35 of Montevideo, it was named in honor of the jurist and politician Alfredo Vásquez Acevedo.Housed in an art nouveau style building built in 1911 by the architect Alfredo Jones Brown, the institute has educated a wide range of notable alumni, including presidents and vice presidents.
