Cacela Velha

Cacela Island is a sandy barrier island at the mouth of the Ria Formosa in the Algarve region of mainland Portugal. It was part of a peninsula up to the autumn of 2010, when as a result of storm action, the sea cut the peninsula and turned its westernmost part into an island.Access to the island's beach is made either by wading or boat. The island's beach is known as Praia da Fábrica, or "Factory Site Beach".The former peninsula was 4.4 kilometres (2.7 mi) in length and its width was 0.05 to 0.15 km (0.03 to 0.09 mi). Both the island and the remaining part of the peninsula are located in the civil parish of Vila Nova de Cacela, which in turn is a part of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António. The island is in the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

Vila Nova de Cacela, or simply Cacela, is a town and Civil parish in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, the southeasternmost of the Algarve, Portugal. The population in 2011 was 3,903, in an area of 46.03 km². Cacela is an exclave of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, one of only three in Portugal to have exclaves. A lagoon and popular beaches exist by the coast of this civil parish. It is also the site of the eighteenth-century Fortaleza de Cacela.

It is a popular summer destination due to its beaches by the Atlantic Ocean. The civil parish of Altura was officially created on June 11, 1991, through detachment from the Castro Marim civil parish. It includes the older and now defunct community of Alagoa.

Cabanas de Tavira (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐˈβɐnɐʒ ðɨ tɐˈviɾɐ]; Portuguese for "cottages/huts of Tavira") is a former civil parish in the municipality of Tavira, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Conceição e Cabanas de Tavira. The parish covers an area of approximately 4.2 km², and encompasses a resident population of approximately 1181 inhabitants. Once a fishing port, it is now a popular summer tourist destination, owing to its beach (Praia de Cabanas) and island (Ilha de Cabanas), which belong to the Ria Formosa Nature Park.

The Fort São João da Barra (Fortaleza de São João da Barra in Portuguese) also known as Fort São João Baptista (Fortaleza de São João Baptista in Portuguese) or Fort Conceição (Forte da Conceição in Portuguese), is located to the east of the town of Cabanas de Tavira, on a small hill below the Ria Formosa in the municipality of Tavira, in Algarve, southern Portugal.

The Fortress of Cacela (Portuguese: Fortaleza de Cacela also known as Fort Cavaleiros de Santiago (Portuguese: Fortaleza dos Cavaleiros de Santiago is a fortress in the civil parish of Vila Nova de Cacela, municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, in the southeastern Portuguese district of Faro (Algarve). A castle was built there in the Muslim period. The current structure was built between 1770 and 1794. Located within the boundaries of the Nature Park of Ria Formosa and Rede Natura 2000 sectorial plan, it was included in the Special Protection Zone of Cacela Velha and designated as a Sítio de Interesse Comunitário (Community Site of Interest) for Ria Formosa and Castro Marim.

Praia Verde Airstrip is a coastal airstrip in Castro Marim Municipality, Portugal, near the border with Spain. The airstrip appears abandoned. Google Earth 2006 historical imagery shows a maintained, unpaved runway in use. 2014 imagery shows the runway and ramp area overgrown with weeds and shrubs. As of 2023, there are indications of use by a gyrocopter operator. The region is served by Faro International Airport, (IATA: FAO, ICAO: LPFR), 48 kilometres (30 mi) southwest.

Fort Santo António of Tavira, also known as Rato Fort (Forte do Rato in Portuguese) or Lebres Island Fort (Forte da Ilha das Lebres in Portuguese), is located east of the Quatro Águas site, at the mouth of the Gilão River, next to the bar of the city of Tavira, in the District of Faro, in Portugal.It is marked as a Property of Public Interest since 1983.
