Swords Castle

County Hall (Irish: Halla an Chontae, Sord Cholmcille) is a municipal building in Swords in the county of Fingal, Ireland.

Fingal (English: FING-gəl; from Irish Fine Gall 'foreign tribe') is a county in Ireland. It is located in the province of Leinster and is part of the Eastern and Midland Region. It is one of three successor counties to County Dublin, which was disestablished for administrative purposes in 1994. Its name is derived from the medieval territory of Scandinavian foreigners (Irish: gaill) that settled in the area. Fingal County Council is the local authority for the county. In 2016 the population of the county was 296,214, making it the second-most populous county in the state.

Swords (Irish: Sord [sˠoːɾˠd̪ˠ] or Sord Cholmcille), the county town of Fingal, is a large suburban town on the east coast of Ireland, situated ten kilometres north of Dublin city centre. The town was reputedly founded c. AD 560. Located on the Ward River, Swords features Swords Castle, a restored medieval castle, a holy well from which it takes its name, a round tower and a Norman tower. Facilities in the area include the Pavilions shopping centre, one of the largest in the Dublin region, a range of civic offices, some light industries, the main storage facility and archive of the National Museum of Ireland and several parks. Dublin Airport is located nearby. The name "Swords" is also given to a townland, a civil parish within the old County Dublin, and to the local electoral area.

Fingallians is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland. Founded in 1884, Fingallians are one of the oldest clubs in Dublin and they are based at Lawless Memorial Park.

Rathbeale is a neighbourhood in the town of Swords in Ireland. It developed in west Swords along the Rathbeale Road (R125), which runs from Swords to the townland of Rathbeal. It has been designed around the Rathbeale Road, which has shops, including two supermarkets, with housing estates on either side of the road.

Airside Retail Park is a retail park which opened in 2001 and is located in Swords, Dublin. The retail park is located close to Dublin Airport. An extension was built in 2005 which doubled the size of the retail park which included a new recycling centre. There is a hotel of the Premier Inn located next to the retail park, and there are currently sixteen tenants.In the end of 2015, work began on a new Tesco near the Holywell Estate which officially opened in May 2017, creating more than eighty five new jobs. The expansion of the store was completed in August 2020, which added new services for customers and cost €2.7 million to build.

The Ward River (Irish: Abhainn an Bharda), sometimes historically the Swords River, is a watercourse of County Meath and northern County Dublin. About 18 kilometres (11 mi) long;: 2  it runs through the town of Swords and then flows into the Broadmeadow River. The Ward is a salmonid river, with several species of fish, including brown trout. It has several small tributaries. The river is in the jurisdictions of Meath and Fingal County Councils, as well as within the oversight of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Applewood is a neighbourhood in the town of Swords in Ireland. It was built around the year 2002 by property developer Gerry Gannon. It has been designed village-style with a main street lined with shops in the centre, with housing estates surrounding the area. In 2006 Applewood won the Best Urban Village at the National Tidy Towns competition.

Holywell (Irish: Tobar Naofa) is a neighbourhood near Swords, Dublin, Ireland. Developed and marketed in phases and under various names, Feltrim Hall, Gorse Hill, Abbey Stone, Holywell and The Meadows, all the street names in the community include the common name Holywell e.g. 'Holywell Drive'. It is the eastern part of the census town of Kinsealy–Drinan, separated from the western part by the M1 motorway.

Brackenstown is a neighbourhood in the north Dublin suburb of Swords in Ireland. It developed in west Swords on the north side of the Ward River. It developed along the Brackenstown Road, which runs from Swords to the townland of Knocksedan. It has shops, including a supermarket and a pub, and is adjacent to the Ward River Valley Park. Brackenstown is also a parish in the Fingal North deanery of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin.

The National Show Centre is a venue for exhibitions and events near Dublin Airport and Swords (the county town of Fingal) in north County Dublin. In 2007 Mata Amritanandamayi, known as 'the hugging saint', held a meeting there at which she hugged followers.In August 2013 Dublin Comic Con was held in the centre.

St Finian's GAA, Camogie and LGFA (Irish: Cumann Naomh Fhionnáin) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the River Valley, Ridgewood, Boroimhe and Forest Road area of Swords in the north of County Dublin. The club was founded in 1983 following the finalisation of development plans for 419 new homes in River Valleys. The club fields teams at adult and juvenile level in Camogie, Hurling, and Ladies' and Men's Gaelic football. Two adult Rounders teams were founded in September 2020. St Finian's saw the Irish actor Brendan Gleeson play for the team during his twenties. Gleeson played as a full-forward for the club's Gaelic football team, where he was selected as a member of the club’s "Team of the Decade".
