Its seat is the town of Chęciny, which lies approximately 14 kilometres (9 mi) south-west of the regional capital Kielce. The gmina covers an area of 127.57 square kilometres (49.3 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 14,715 (out of which the population of Chęciny amounts to 4,252, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 10,463). The gmina contains part of the protected area called Chęciny-Kielce Landscape Park.

Chęciny [xɛɲˈt͡ɕinɨ] is a town in Kielce County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, southern Poland, with 4,361 inhabitants as of December 2021. It was first mentioned in historical documents from 1275, and obtained its city charter in 1325. At that time was one of major urban centers of northern Lesser Poland. The most important sight in Chęciny is the royal castle built in the late 13th or early 14th century on the Castle Hill above the town. It fell into a ruin in the 18th century and remains in that state to this day. For centuries Chęciny had a Jewish community and it had been the center of the Hasidic Chentshin dynasty, (Chęciny being pronounced as "Chentshin" or "Khantchin" in Yiddish.)

The gmina covers an area of 102.48 square kilometres (39.6 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 15,249. The gmina contains part of the protected area called Chęciny-Kielce Landscape Park.

Piekoszów [pjɛˈkɔʂuf] is a town in Kielce County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in south-central Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Piekoszów. It lies approximately 11 km (7 mi) west of the regional capital Kielce.

Chęciny County (Polish: Powiat chęciński) was an administrative territorial entity of the Kingdom of Poland and later the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It is unknown when it was established, probably some time in the 14th century. It was located in the central part of the Sandomierz Voivodeship, with the seat in the historic town of Checiny and among others, it included Kielce, Przedborz, Secemin, Malogoszcz, Wloszczowa and Daleszyce. Total area of the county was almost 3000 sq. kilometres. The county ceased to exist in 1796 when, after the Third Partition of Poland, it was annexed by the Austrian Empire, and its seat was moved to Kielce.

Chęciny Royal Castle was built in the late 13th century in Chęciny, Poland. It fell into ruin in the 18th century and remains in that state to this day.
