Bangor Abbey

Bangor was a single-member county constituency of the Parliament of Northern Ireland.

Bangor railway station is a terminal railway station which serves the town of Bangor in County Down, Northern Ireland.

Bangor Castle is a country house situated in Castle Park in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. The building, which is also referred to as Bangor Town Hall and is now used as the offices of Ards and North Down Borough Council, is a Grade A listed building.

Bangor ( BANG-gər; from Irish Beannchar [ˈbʲaːn̪ˠəxəɾˠ]) is a city and seaside resort in County Down, Northern Ireland, on the southern side of Belfast Lough. It is within the Belfast metropolitan area and is 13 miles (22 km) east of Belfast city centre, to which it is linked by the A2 road and the Belfast–Bangor railway line. The population was 64,596 at the 2021 Census. Bangor was granted city status in 2022, becoming Northern Ireland's sixth city. Bangor Abbey was an important and influential monastery founded in the 6th century by Saint Comgall. Bangor grew during the 17th century Plantation of Ulster, when many Scottish settlers arrived. Today, tourism is important to the local economy, particularly in the summer months, and plans are being made for the long-delayed redevelopment of the seafront; a notable historical building in the city is Bangor Old Custom House. The largest plot of private land in the area, the Clandeboye Estate, which is a few miles from the city centre, belonged to the Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava. Bangor hosts the Royal Ulster and Ballyholme yacht clubs. Bangor Marina is one of the largest in Ireland, and holds Blue Flag status.

Bangor Marina is the largest marina in Northern Ireland. It opened in 1989 on the southern shores of Belfast Lough, close to the Irish Sea cruising routes. The marina has become well known for providing a berth in the centre of Bangor. It has also been awarded Five Anchors by the Yachting Harbour Association. Also based at the Marina are the Marine Court Hotel, HM Coast Guard's Marine Rescue Sub Centre and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's Atlantic 85-class lifeboat Jessie Hillyard.

The McKee Clock is a clock tower in the City of Bangor, Northern Ireland. Situated at the foot of High Street in the marina's sunken gardens in an area known as the "McKee Clock Arena", the clock is named for its benefactor William McKee, a local rates collector who donated £200 (a very large sum of money at the time) towards its construction.The clock was designed by Mr Bell, the town's surveyor, and built in 1915 by John McNeilly from stone quarried at Ballycullen, near Newtownards. On the base of the clock, a black granite slab is engraved with the inscription "8 July 1915. This stone records the appreciation of the Bangor Urban District Council for the generous gift of this clock to his native town by James McKee. The above James McKee died on 28th April 1919". During World War II the Luftwaffe dropped a bomb that landed on the top of the clock. Fortunately little damage resulted. The clock tower is a familiar sight to Bangor natives and visitors alike, and is a popular meeting place in the town.

Clandeboye Park, known for commercial reasons as the Bangor Fuels Arena, is a football stadium in Bangor, Northern Ireland. It is the home ground of Bangor and Ards. At one time, the pitch was the smallest in the Irish league, but it no longer holds this distinction since the pitch was enlarged after the stock-car racing track was removed in the later years of the twentieth century.

The Old Custom House of Bangor is a 17th-century tower and adjoining tower house. It is situated on the seafront in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is a well-preserved reminder of Bangor's seafaring history alongside its modern marina. Originally built as a custom house by The 1st Viscount Claneboye in 1637, the architecture of the tower is unique in Bangor and rare in Ulster. Over the past 300 years the building has served various purposes – private dwellings, an antique shop and housed hot seawater baths. The future of the Tower House was protected when the Historic Buildings Branch of the Department of the Environment (D.o.E.) added it to their "List of Buildings of Special Interest" in 1979. Today, Tower House serves as the Council's Tourist Information Centre. It is located at by the Coast Guard building very near the bottom of High Street, Bangor, Co.Down.

Glenlola Collegiate School is an all-girls' grammar school in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. The school was founded as a school for girls in approximately 1880.In 2018 the Education and Training Electorate evaluated the school as "Good" in all categories.The current principal, Mr W E Thompson, took up post in February 2010, taking over from Richard Finlay.

The Bangor Community Hospital is a health facility in Castle Street, Bangor, Northern Ireland. It is managed by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust.

The Tonic Cinema was built in 1936 in Bangor, Northern Ireland. At the time it was the largest Cinema in Ireland with 2,001 seats. It was demolished in 1992 following a fire. The old Compton Theatre Organ, formerly in the Tonic Cinema, was in the care of Bangor Academy School but following the demolition of the school, the organ was moved to north east England where it is in the care of an enthusiast in Hull. It was one of only two Theatre Organs still in Northern Ireland, the other being in the Movieland Cinema, Newtownards, County Down, where it was installed in 1994, having originally been in the Ambassador Cinema, Hounslow, west London.
