Moody Foundation

The Sealy & Smith Foundation is a charitable foundation incorporated in Texas and based in the island city of Galveston. It was established in 1922 by John Sealy, II and his sister Jennie Sealy Smith with a charter stating a mission to: "support of a charitable undertaking in the City of Galveston, Texas, for the construction, remodeling, enlarging, equipping, and furnishing of the John Sealy Hospital, and other hospital building or buildings in the City of Galveston in connection with the John Sealy Hospital in said city, and endowment thereof, for the use of the people of said City of Galveston and providing them with the necessary medical care and attention therein." The foundation's endowment is funded from various sources, including mineral rights in the Permian Basin. It focuses the majority of its funding on programs supporting the healthcare and research at the University of Texas Medical Branch and its primary care facility, the John Sealy Hospital. Since its inception the foundation has contributed more than $800 million towards construction and equipping of medical facilities on the university's Galveston campus. In 2011 the foundation committed $170 million towards the construction of Jennie Sealy Hospital on the UTMB campus, an amount that represents the largest single gift ever to a Texas health institution.

Moody National Bank (MNB) is a nationally chartered bank, founded in 1907, that is based in Galveston, Texas. With assets of nearly $1 billion, Moody Bank is one of the oldest and largest privately owned Texas-based banks. Its trust department, established in 1927, administers over $26 billion in assets, and is the largest domiciled in the state of Texas. The company offers a full range of commercial and consumer banking products, as well as trust and investment banking services to customers throughout Southeast Texas and Central Texas, including the Greater Houston area.The bank is unique in that through its trust department, it has de facto control of the American National Insurance Company (ANICO), one of the largest life and property/casualty companies in the U.S. The bank's trust department administers the Moody Foundation and the Libbie Shearn Moody Trust, which together own the majority of ANICO's shares.Moody National Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of Moody Bancshares, Inc., a privately owned financial holding company, also based in Galveston. Moody Bancshares also maintains a controlling interest in Galveston-based Hometown Bank N.A.

The E.S. Levy Building, also known as the National Hotel Building is a historic structure in Galveston, Texas. Originally the Tremont Opera house, some of the walls were retained when it was re-designed as the E.S. Levy department store in 1896. It was built for E.S. Levy & Co. and Ed S. Levy. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 2003. The building is located at 2221-2225 Market Street.

The City National Bank (CNB) was a bank, and the name of the historic building in Galveston, Texas, United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places NRHP). The bank was founded in December 1907 by William Lewis Moody Jr. (1866–1954) and the building was completed in 1920. City National Bank renamed itself the Moody National Bank in 1953 to honor the founder. The downtown building served as the Galveston County Historical Museum until 2008 when it was badly damaged by Hurricane Ike, after which the museum's assets were moved to the Galveston County Courthouse. Since then the former CNB building has been unused.

The United States National Bank of Galveston [USNB] was a federally chartered bank in Galveston, Texas. It was founded in 1874 and was merged into Frost National Bank in 2000. It was the last of 33 banks chartered in the US that used the forbidden title "United States" in its name.

Cornet is an outdoor concrete and steel sculpture of a cornet by David Adickes, located in the Strand Historic District of Galveston, Texas, in the United States. Modeled after a cornet purchased at an antique shop in New Orleans, the 20 feet (6.1 m) by 26 feet (7.9 m) replica originally served as a stage prop at the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition. Adickes converted the prop into a freestanding sculpture for installation in Galveston in 1986.

Scottish Rite Cathedral is a historic Scottish Rite Masonic building at 2128 Church Street in Galveston, Texas. It was built in 1928 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, also known as the Galveston Federal Building, is a post office and courthouse located in Galveston, Texas, USA. The building serves as the federal court for the Galveston Division of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Constructed in 1937, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 as Galveston U.S. Post Office, Custom House and Courthouse, the building is home a number of federal agencies, and at one point housed the Galveston Bureau of the National Weather Service.

The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum, located in Galveston, Texas, is a museum dedicated to the offshore oil and gas industry. Located next to the Strand National Historic Landmark District, the museum is housed on a retired jack-up rig set up in the Galveston harbor.

St. Mary Cathedral Basilica, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica, is a Catholic church situated in Galveston, Texas. It is the primary cathedral of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and the mother church of the Catholic Church in Texas, as well as a minor basilica. Along with the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston, St. Mary's serves more than 1.5 million Catholics living in the archdiocese.

Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe is a music "Listening Room" in Galveston, Texas founded by Rex "Wrecks" Bell. Originally a bar Old Quarter, it was opened in Houston, Texas in 1965 by Rex Bell and Cecil Slayton. The Old Quarter is most well-known as the venue for Townes Van Zandt live album Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas. The song Rex's Blues from the album was written about Rex Bell whom Van Zandt remarked upon during the recorded live performance. The reopened Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston, Texas features recurring "open mic" acoustic music performances.

Rosenberg Library, a public library located at 2310 Sealy Street in Galveston, Texas, United States, is the oldest continuously operating library in Texas. It serves as headquarters of the Galveston County Library System, and its librarian is also the Galveston County Librarian.
