Academy of Music (Baltimore)

The Mayfair Theatre is a historic theatre site in Baltimore, United States. Originally opened in 1880 as a bathing house, the site was later demolished and rebuilt in 1904 as a theatre, which was closed in 1986. In 2016 the building was demolished except for the facade and lobby. The remnant is listed as a Baltimore City Landmark and remains the focus of redevelopment plans.

Howard Street is a major north–south street through the central part of the city of Baltimore, Maryland. About 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) long, the street begins at the north end of I-395 near Oriole Park at Camden Yards and ends near Johns Hopkins University, where it splits. To the right, it becomes Art Museum Drive, the one-block home of the Baltimore Museum of Art. To the left, it becomes San Martin Drive, which winds road along the western perimeter of the Johns Hopkins University campus and ends at University Parkway. Howard Street is named in honor of former Maryland governor John Eager Howard. Two other streets in Baltimore, John and Eager Streets, are also named after him.At one time, Howard Street was a two-way street throughout its entire route. In 1989, when construction began on the Central Light Rail line, Howard Street was made one-way in a northbound direction between Pratt Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; as such, southbound traffic now uses Eutaw Street, one block to the west. The light rail runs along Howard Street within this area, which is most of Downtown Baltimore, and near Howard Street for much of the remainder of its route in the downtown area.

Mt. Vernon station (formerly Centre Street station) is a Baltimore Light Rail station in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland.

Hotel Kernan, also known as the Congress Hotel, is a historic hotel located at Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a six-story plus mansard roof, French Renaissance Revival-style structure detailed in brick and terra cotta. It is constructed of steel and reinforced concrete and is "U"-shaped in plan. It was designed in 1903 by Philadelphia architect John Allen for theatrical impresario James Lawrence Kernan (1838-1912), who lived at the hotel until his death in 1912.Hotel Kernan was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Old Baltimore College of Dental Surgery is an historic commercial building on North Eutaw Street in Baltimore, Maryland. The three story brick building was built in 1881, and served as the fifth location of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, the nation's first dental school. It is one of two surviving 19th century addresses of the school, which was founded in 1839. The building's first floor, which was always used for commercial and retail purposes, has seen some remodeling, but the upper floors, used by the school, have retained a great deal of historic integrity.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association Building, also known as the Jewish Community Center, is a historic building located in central Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a three-story, flat-roofed, rectangular-shaped Flemish bond brick structure completed in 1930. The exterior features Moorish and Jewish motifs, such as the Star of David. It was designed by Baltimore architect Joseph Evans Sperry. It is now an apartment building. The establishment of the joining YM/YWHA building was a notable example of an attempt to bridge the divide between uptown Baltimore's prosperous German Jews and East Baltimore's impoverished Eastern European and Russian Jews. The association building was constructed midway between uptown and East Baltimore to symbolize this coming together of the two halves of Baltimore's Jewish community.The Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It is included in the Baltimore National Heritage Area.

Martick's Restaurant Francais (previously known as Martick's Lower Tyson Street Tavern) is a defunct restaurant and historic building in Downtown Baltimore, Maryland. The 2,860 square-foot Federal style building was built no later than 1852. After serving a variety of uses over the decades, the structure opened as a French restaurant on July 9, 1970. Over its decades as a bar and restaurant, Martick's was known as an artists' refuge, "a tiny isle of Bohemia set in a conservative city." So steeped in the particular culture of its city in the 20th century, the restaurant was referred to as "the Natty Boh of French dining in Baltimore."The building is located within the city's Bromo Arts District, and is within the Market Center district listed in the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the locally designated Howard Street Commercial Historic District. While not itself a designated landmark, Martick's was one of the historic structures used to justify the Howard Street district when it was proposed in 2018. Writing in the context of the demolition of many of its neighboring buildings (both in the 20th and 21st centuries), a 2018 Baltimore Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation (CHAP) report described Martick's as "the only remaining vestige of the historic appearance of the street."

The Ira Remsen House is a historic house at 214 West Monument Street in Baltimore, Maryland. Built in the 1880s, this nondescript row house was the home of Ira Remsen (1846-1927), a noted chemist and educator who served as president of Johns Hopkins University from 1901 to 1913, and influenced a generation of chemists and chemistry researches with his textbooks and pedagogical methods. This house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975.

The Maryland Center for History and Culture (MCHC), formerly the Maryland Historical Society (MdHS), founded on March 1, 1844, is the oldest cultural institution in the U.S. state of Maryland. The organization "collects, preserves, and interprets objects and materials reflecting Maryland's diverse heritage". The MCHC has a museum, library, holds educational programs, and publishes scholarly works on Maryland.

Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women (BLSYW, pronounced "Bliss") is a public charter middle and high school for girls in Mount Vernon, Baltimore, Maryland. It is the first public all girls' secondary school in the city that had both middle and senior high school levels.

The New Youth Detention Facility in Baltimore City is a jail planned by the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS). The facility is slated to be built between the 600 blocks of East Monument and East Madison Streets. The jail is designed to house between 180 and 230 youth facing trial as an adult. These youth were previously incarcerated along with adults in the Baltimore City Detention Center (BCDC) but are now detained at The Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center (BCJJC) in a separate unit. Youth charged as adults are not covered by the provisions for "Sight and Sound Separation" required by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act.

The Contemporary is an itinerant museum of contemporary art in Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States. It does not collect artworks. It was started as the Contemporary Museum by George Ciscle in 1989. During its first decade, it had no fixed home, but instead was "dedicated to redefining the concept of the museum". It sponsored exhibitions in a variety of non-traditional spaces around Baltimore, as well as borrowing space in partnering institutions such as the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Historical Society, Peabody Conservatory and Walters Art Museum.In 1999, the Contemporary Museum moved to 100 W. Centre Street, one block from the Walters, in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of downtown Baltimore, where it organized exhibitions and related programming for nearly ten years. In 2011, the museum moved out of the W. Centre Street space and organized projects in neighboring institutions and buildings. The museum suspended operations in 2012, but in September 2013 announced that it would re-open under a new name, The Contemporary, after a year spent "reimagining the organization's mission, vision and operating structure".
