Buchanan is a village located in the town of Cortlandt in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 2,230 as of the 2010 census.The now decommissioned Indian Point nuclear power facility is located in Buchanan. The 2000 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree also came from Buchanan. The 80-foot tall Norway spruce was donated by Bill and Frances Heady after its execution. Bill Heady planted the tree in 1950.

Jones Point is a former hamlet located in the town of Stony Point in Rockland County in the state of New York, United States, located north of Tomkins Cove; east of Bear Mountain State Park; south of Iona Island; and west of the Hudson River. It is directly across the Hudson River from the city of Peekskill and lies at the foot of Dunderberg Mountain. Although it is located in primarily suburban Rockland County, the hamlet is rural in character, making it an exurb of New York City. Over 85% of the hamlet is part of the Bear Mountain State Park. Beginning in World War I, Jones Point was the home of the Jones Point Chemical Weapons Research Laboratory, which conducted projects on liquid propellants, incendiary compounds, and the chemical weapons phosgene and mustard gas. The Hudson River National Defense Reserve Fleet was located off Jones Point from 1946 until 1971. It spanned from there to Tomkins Cove.

Verplanck is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Cortlandt, Westchester County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,729. Both the hamlet and Verplanck's Point derive their name from the activities of the Verplanck family, established in New Amsterdam by Abraham Isaacsen Verplanck in the 1630s.

Peekskill Seaplane Base (FAA LID: 7N2) was a public use seaplane base located three nautical miles (5.5 km) southwest of the central business district of Peekskill, a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. It was privately owned by James M. W. Martin. The seaplane base was situated on the Hudson River in Verplanck, a hamlet in the Town of Cortlandt. Also located at this site is the Riveredge Trailer Park, founded and operated by James Martin since 1950. In 1991 he donated the seaplane base, trailer park and waterfront area to the Town of Cortlandt. The 26 acres (110,000 m2) of land was given with an agreement that the trailer park would remain open until 10 years after his death, at which time the town will turn it into a park. Martin had been offered $5.5 million by a developer looking to build condominiums on the property. Martin died on July 3, 2006 in his Greenwich, Connecticut home at the age of 87. The seaplane base was removed from FAA records in 2007.

The Lincoln Depot Museum is located at 41 South Water Street in Peekskill, New York inside the Peekskill Freight Depot. The Museum is managed by the Lincoln Depot Foundation, whose mission is to preserve the history of the connection between Abraham Lincoln and Peekskill. It opened to the public on October 18, 2014.

Peekskill station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line, located in Peekskill, New York. The former station building built by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad in 1874 still stands, although it is no longer staffed.

Montrose is a hamlet (and census-designated place) within the town of Cortlandt, in the northwestern corner of Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located near Croton-on-Hudson and Buchanan. The rural character of the hamlet is defined by the Hudson River, numerous wooded hills and steep slopes, wetland areas and beautiful streams. As of the 2010 census, Montrose had a population of 2,731.

The Standard House is a landmark in the city of Peekskill in Westchester County, New York, built in 1855. It is located at 50 Hudson Avenue between South Water Street and the Metro-North Hudson Line train tracks. An Italianate brick building, it and the Union Hotel across the street are the only two hotel buildings remaining from the period of Peekskill's industrial height as a center for the manufacture of stoves. It continued to be in use as a hotel after that industry declined, but couldn't survive the decline of the railroad in the mid-20th century. Vacant and neglected through most of the later years of that century, it was restored early in the next. In 2000 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Currently it houses a retail store on the ground floor, and the city's economic development offices.

The Peekskill Freight Depot, sometimes called the Lincoln Depot, is located at 41 South Water Street in Peekskill, New York. It is a brick building erected in the late 19th century. Abraham Lincoln gave a speech at this site during his train ride to Washington after being elected, his only public appearance in Westchester County. No longer in use as a depot, the building is the only intact freight-only station building along the route of the former Hudson River Railroad. In 2004, the station was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and in 2014 it was converted into the Lincoln Depot Museum.

Montrose station was a station on the Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line, serving the hamlet of Montrose, New York. It closed in 1996 when it and the next station southbound, Crugers, were replaced by the Cortlandt station between them.

Camp Smith is a military installation of the New York Army National Guard in Cortlandt Manor near Peekskill, NY, about 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, at the northern border of Westchester County, and consists of 1,900 acres (7.7 km2). Established in 1882 by General Frederick Townsend, Adjutant General of New York, it was formerly known as "Camp Townsend", but was renamed in 1919 to "Camp Smith" for Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York.The camp has been used as an annual training site for National and State Guard regiments since its establishment, and recently has served as the home of the Empire State Military Academy, as well as the state's Non-Com, Officer Candidate School, and a Westchester County DES satellite fire training center. It also hosts some other units (e.g. The Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of the 53rd Troop Command, 42nd Infantry Division Band, 138th Chaplain Support Team).

Tomkins Cove is a hamlet in the Town of Stony Point, Rockland County, New York, United States, located north of Stony Point; east of Harriman State Park; south of Doodletown and west of the Hudson River. It is located north-northwest of New York City. The population is approximately 1,739 and the ZIP Code is 10986. The community is served by the 786 exchange in area code 845. Tomkins Cove comprises approximately 8 square miles (21 km2). Notable areas within the town are Tomkins Lake Colony (a private community with a small lake), Rising Hills Estates, Buckberg Mountain, the Girl Scout Camp (Camp Addisone Boyce), the Town Pool, the Tomkins Cove Library, and Cedar Flats Road. Mott Farm Road extends west from US 9W to Bulsontown Road. A natural gas pipeline runs from the Hudson River into Stony Point. Much of the Tomkins Cove perimeter borders Bear Mountain State Park. Tomkins Cove prides itself on having a cut through of the Appalachian trail which leads into Bear Mountain. It is one of the more rural communities in Rockland County. Tomkins Cove is accessible from Exit 15 on the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
