Lomax is a neighborhood of La Porte, a city in Harris County, Texas, United States. Lomax once was a separate community. The community was named after R.A. Lomax, a native of Illinois who went to the area in 1885 and donated land for a school. Lomax incorporated in 1952 and became a city in 1966. In 1980 it was merged into the city of La Porte.

La Porte ( lə PORT) is a city in Harris County, Texas, United States, within the Bay Area of the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 35,124. La Porte is the fourth-largest incorporated city in Harris County. When La Porte celebrated its centennial in 1992, it was the home of Barbours Cut Terminal, operated by the Port of Houston Authority since 1977. Fifteen years later, the Port of Houston's newest addition, Bayport Terminal, was established just south of La Porte. The area around La Porte has served an increasingly important role in international trade since the 1970s. The area around modern La Porte gained fame early in Texas history as the location of the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836, which ended the Texas Revolution, establishing the independence of the Republic of Texas from Mexico. The San Jacinto Monument, in the unincorporated area of La Porte, commemorates the battle. During the early 20th century, particularly the 1920s and 1930s, La Porte's Sylvan Beach became a nationally known tourist destination attracting some of the nation's most well-known entertainers. As a result of changing economics in the Houston area and beach erosion, the tourist business declined while industrial development in the area grew. During World War II and afterward, La Porte's economy rapidly shifted toward petroleum/petrochemicals and shipping, which developed as the dominant industries in the Pasadena-Baytown area.

La Porte High School is a High school based in La Porte, Texas, United States. It is part of the La Porte Independent School District. The school serves the cities of La Porte, Morgan's Point, and Shoreacres, as well as a small portion of Pasadena and of Deer Park.After 1946 the school moved into a new campus built on the same location, until 1959 when it relocated into a new campus built nearby. Over the years the campus has had many additions, such as E building, first built in 1968, and B building, built in 1986. Both buildings contained additional classrooms. The campus added a vocational wing, a new basketball gymnasium, swimming pool, and the Sonja Angelo Theater in 1976. In the early 1990s the school added a science wing, a new field house, and the Henry Eienfelt Band Hall. A bond referendum approved major renovations for the campus, including a major renovation of the Sonja Angelo Theater, demolition and replacement of the old gymnasium built in 1958, major renovations to the deteriorating cafeteria, and major renovations to the football and baseball stadiums.

The Bayport Industrial District is a large commercial real-estate development located in Southeast Harris County, Texas, within the Bay Area of Greater Houston. It is one of the two industrial districts in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of La Porte (the other being the Battleground Industrial District). It is located adjacent to both La Porte and Seabrook, Texas. In 1965 the City of Pasadena and the City of Houston both annexed an area that included the site of Bayport resulting in a lawsuit between Pasadena and City of Houston. Houston was joined by Harris County and Humble Oil & Refining Company in the lawsuit. In 1969 the Supreme Court of Texas reversed lower court rulings that had sustained Houston's motion for summary judgment and upheld the validity of Pasadena's 1965 annexation of the disputed territory. In 1970 the City of Pasadena created an industrial district that included the Bayport complex. The development, created in 1970, is among the largest private industrial complexes in the United States. The leading center for chemical processing in the Houston area, Bayport contains more than 60 chemical plants. Businesses located in this district can receive tax incentives from Harris County, La Porte, and Pasadena. As of 2007 local business volume for Bayport-related enterprises exceeds $829 million annually with 11,000 jobs directly attributable to the complex. Additionally the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership estimates that for every job created within the complex approximately 3.79 related jobs are created on average outside the district. Thus the district represents a key economic pillar of the communities in the area.Major facilities in the district include the LyondellBasell site, the Celanese/Air Products/Clariant/Dow site, and the Albemarle/Akzo Nobel site.Adjacent to the industrial complex is the new Bayport Terminal, which contains both a major new cargo container shipping terminal and a cruise ship terminal. This port is operated by the Port of Houston Authority.

Alexander Island is an island in the Houston Ship Channel in Harris County, Texas. It is located near Baytown and La Porte and is viewable on the Fred Hartman Bridge.In September 2013, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount $1,369,515.74 to Integris Projects for dewatering of the Alexander Island Placement Area relating to the Houston Ship Channel in Harris County.Dewatering allows for the outflow of excess water and increases the placement area's capacity to hold more dredge material. This process is part of the district's Dredged Area Management Program (DAMP) which ensures placement areas are prepared for future dredging activities.

The Fred Hartman Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in the U.S. state of Texas spanning the Houston Ship Channel. The bridge carries 2.6 miles (4.2 km) of State Highway 146 (SH 146), between the cities of Baytown and La Porte (east of Houston). The bridge is also expected to carry State Highway 99 (SH 99) (Grand Parkway) when it is completed around Houston.The bridge, named for Fred Hartman (1908–1991), the editor and publisher of the Baytown Sun from 1950 to 1974, is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Texas, and one of only four such bridges in the state, the others being Veterans Memorial Bridge in Orange County, Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas and Bluff Dale Suspension Bridge in Erath County. It is the 77th largest bridge in the world. The construction cost of the bridge was $91.25 million. The bridge replaced the Baytown Tunnel (of depth clearance 40 feet or 12.2 m). The tunnel had to be removed when the Houston Ship Channel was deepened to 45 feet (13.7 m), with a minimum 530 feet (161.5 m) bottom width, to accommodate larger ships. The last section of the Baytown Tunnel was removed from the Houston Ship Channel on September 14, 1999, with removal of the tunnel being the responsibility of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

Deer Park is a city in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The city is located in Harris County and is situated in Southeast Harris County. At the 2020 U.S. census, the population of Deer Park was 34,495.

The Baytown Tunnel or Baytown – La Porte Tunnel was a two-lane underwater motor-vehicle tunnel connecting Baytown and La Porte, two suburbs of Houston, Texas. Completed in 1953, it traveled northeast-southwest underneath the Houston Ship Channel and had a length of 4,110 feet (1,250 m). It was closed to vehicular traffic in 1995 with the opening of the Fred Hartman Bridge, and subsequently demolished beginning in 1997 in order for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to deepen the channel in 1998.The Fred Hartman Bridge had been designed to replace the Baytown Tunnel (of depth clearance 40 feet (12.2 m)), which had to be removed when the Houston Ship Channel was deepened to 45 feet (13.7 m), with a minimum 530 feet (161.5 m) bottom width, to accommodate larger ships. The last section of the Baytown Tunnel was removed on September 14, 1999, with removal of the tunnel being the responsibility of the Texas Department of Transportation.

Deer Park Independent School District is a public school district in Deer Park, Texas in the Houston metropolitan area.

Armand Bayou is a bayou in U.S. State of Texas. It runs near Galveston Bay in Pasadena and the Clear Lake Area. The bayou is best known for the Armand Bayou Nature Center, through which it runs. The bayou and the nature center were named for Armand Yramategui, former curator of the Burke Baker Planetarium and environmental leader during the 1960s. State Representative Dennis Paul, before he took office, was among those who worked with community leaders to clean up the bayou before the United States Environmental Protection Agency ordered a national solution to what Paul otherwise viewed as "a local problem."

Morgan's Point is located 30 miles southeast of Houston in southeastern Harris County, Texas, United States, located on the shores of Galveston Bay at the inlet to the Houston Ship Channel, near La Porte and Baytown. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 339. As of 2020, it has approximately 356 residents and is located within the La Porte Independent School District. Morgan's Point National Historic District includes the "Carriage House" otherwise known as City Hall, and the Governor Ross S. Sterling mansion, directly across the street; as well as several other notable properties. It earned fame in Texas's early history for being the home of the legendary Emily West (Morgan), known as "The Yellow Rose of Texas". It later became a Houston-area resort community for the wealthy in the early 20th century.

The Barbours Cut Container Terminal, or simply the Barbours Cut Terminal, is a major deep water port in the Greater Houston area in the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of one of the world's busiest ports by cargo tonnage.
