Amwell Township was a Township that existed in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States, from 1708 to 1846. The Township was established by royal patent on June 8, 1708, from Queen Anne, the first sovereign of the combined kingdom of Great Britain, while the area was part of West Jersey. At the time of its inception, its territory comprised 200 square miles (520 km2) and included the present day Delaware Township, Raritan Township, Readington Township, East Amwell Township and West Amwell Township and portions of Clinton, Lebanon and Tewksbury Townships. The township was named for Great and Little Amwell, Hertfordshire in England.On March 11, 1714, it became part of the newly formed Hunterdon County. Lebanon Township was first mentioned on October 26, 1731, as having been created from Amwell Township, though the exact date of its formation is unknown. Reading Township (now known as Readington Township) was created from portions of Amwell Township on July 15, 1730.On February 21, 1798, Amwell Township was incorporated by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature as one of New Jersey's initial 104 townships. On April 2, 1838, both Delaware Township and Raritan Township were created from portions of Amwell Township. On April 6, 1846, Amwell was split into East and West Amwell Townships, and Amwell Township was dissolved.

Central Jersey, or Central New Jersey, is the middle region of the U.S. state of New Jersey. The designation Central Jersey is a distinct administrative toponym. While New Jersey is often divided into North Jersey and South Jersey, many residents recognize Central Jersey as a distinct entity. As of the 2020 census, Central Jersey has a population of 3,580,999. All descriptions of Central Jersey include Middlesex County, the population center of New Jersey, and tend to include much of nearby Monmouth, Mercer, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties. The inclusion of adjacent areas of Union and Ocean are a source of debate. In 2015, New Jersey Business magazine defined Central Jersey more narrowly as the five counties of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Somerset.In 2022, legislation was proposed in the New Jersey Legislature to establish distinct geographic areas for tourism in the state. Bill A4711 was sponsored by Assemblymembers Roy Freiman, Sadaf Jaffer, and Anthony Verrelli in the New Jersey General Assembly. This included an official designation of the region of Central Jersey, which the legislation defines more broadly as the seven counties of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, and Union. The New Jersey Senate version of this legislation passed by a vote of 36-1 on June 20, 2023. On August 24, 2023, Gov. Murphy signed legislation officially designating Central Jersey including, at a minimum, the counties of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset.The intersection of the two busiest highways in New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, are located in Woodbridge in Central Jersey.Trenton, the seat of Mercer County and the state capital of New Jersey, is located in the region. New Jersey's geographic center is in Hamilton Township in Mercer County. In 2011, the population center of the state was in the western portion of East Brunswick.

Headquarters is an unincorporated community located within the Amwell Valley of Delaware Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The settlement is centered around the intersection of Zentek Road and County Route 604 (Rosemont-Ringoes Road). It is about 3 miles (4.8 km) from Ringoes to the east and 1 mile (1.6 km) from Sergeantsville to the west. The Headquarters Historic District was listed on the state and national registers of historic places in 2011 and had its boundary increased in 2016.

Sand Brook is an unincorporated community located along County Route 523, Sand Brook-Headquarters & Britton Roads in Delaware Township in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.

Bowne is an unincorporated community located at the intersection of the boundaries of Delaware, East Amwell and West Amwell townships in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.The area is named for Dr. John Bowne, a physician who owned a nearby farm. In the 1870s, the Flemington Railroad & Transportation Company constructed a railroad through the area connecting Lambertville and Flemington with a station (originally named Barber Station, renamed to Bowne Station) at the settlement. This railroad became part of the Belvidere Delaware Railroad and the Pennsylvania Railroad in later years. The railroad's current owner, Black River and Western Railroad, started running passenger trains down to Woodsedge Farm in May 2017. Similar in character to the townships in which the settlement is located, Bowne is surrounded by a mix of farmland, forest, and some single family houses along the main roads through the area, Bowne Station Road and Garboski Road.

Ringoes is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within East Amwell Township in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The community is served by the United States Postal Service as ZIP Code 08551 and as of the 2020 United States census, the CDP's population was 849.

The Ambush of Geary, also known as the Amwell Skirmish, was a skirmish of the American Revolutionary War fought on 14 December 1776 in Amwell Township of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Cornet Francis Geary, the leader of a company of dragoons, was shot in an ambush set up by local militiamen led by Captain John Schenck. After British forces captured New York City in the first part of the New York and New Jersey campaign, they established outposts throughout central New Jersey. Geary, the son of Admiral Sir Francis Geary, was operating from a station at Pennington when he was killed in the ambush. His body was concealed and later buried in a shallow grave, preventing its recovery by British troops. In the 19th century local historical interest led to the confirmation of his grave's location, and the establishment of markers at the site and in England. Making a casualty of Geary was one of a number of militia actions that resulted in a reduced scope of British reconnaissance, contributing to the eventual success of George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River and victory at the Battle of Trenton.

Larisons Corners, also spelled Larison's Corners, is an unincorporated community located along the border of East Amwell and Raritan townships in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States.

Copper Hill is an unincorporated community located within the Amwell Valley of Raritan Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It is located between Flemington and Ringoes along U.S. Route 202, New Jersey Route 31 and Copper Hill Road. It was named for the old copper mines in the area.

The East Amwell Township School District is a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from East Amwell Township, in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2021–22 school year, the district, comprised of one school, had an enrollment of 356 students and 41.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.6:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Public school students in ninth through twelfth grades attend Hunterdon Central High School, part of the Hunterdon Central Regional High School District in central Hunterdon County, which also serves students from Delaware Township, Flemington Borough, Raritan Township and Readington Township. As of the 2021–22 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 2,575 students and 225.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1.

Sergeantsville is a historic unincorporated community located within Delaware Township, in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.Sergeantsville was first settled by a Mr. Thatcher in 1700, and was later named for Charles Sergeant, an American Revolutionary War soldier, in honor of the Sergeant family of which three brothers were local shopkeepers. "Out-of-towners give themselves away when they pronounce the first syllable 'sarge'; it's 'serge.'" Green Sergeant's Covered Bridge, constructed in 1872 across the Wickecheoke Creek, is located just west of Sergeantsville and is the oldest remaining covered bridge in New Jersey.Sergeantsville was officially created in 1827 when it became desirable to establish a post office. Until that time, this largely rural area was known as "Skunktown", perhaps because the town served as a market center for skunk pelts.Sergeantsville's annual "Thanksgiving in the Country" house tour, established in 1973, takes four or five different homes each year, that have historical, architectural or cultural qualities.
