Le Vernet (French pronunciation: [lə vɛʁnɛ]; Languedocien: Lo Vernet) is a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France.

Bézac (French pronunciation: [bezak]; Occitan: Vesac) is a commune in the Ariège department of southwestern France. On 1 January 2023, the former commune of Saint-Amans was merged into Bézac.

Le Vernet-d'Ariège is a railway station in Le Vernet, Occitanie, France. The station is on the Portet-Saint-Simon–Puigcerdà railway. The station is served by TER (local) services operated by the SNCF.

Le Vernet Internment Camp, or Camp Vernet, was a concentration camp in Le Vernet, Ariège, near Pamiers, in the French Pyrenees. Built in 1918 as a barracks but after WWI used as an internment camp for prisoners of war. From February 1939 to June 1944, it was used as an internment camp (concentration camp), first for Republican refugees (soldiers, their families, opponents of the Franco regime) fleeing Spain after Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War, in particular some 12,000 refugees, including soldiers of Durruti Column and others of the International Brigades, under the legitimate French government and then, as of May-June 1940, under the Vichy government after German occupation during the Second World War. Starting in 1940, apart from the prisoners coming from the Spanish Civil War, the Vichy government used it to house prisoners considered suspect or dangerous to the government, including members of the resistance and opponents of the Hitler, Mussolini and Pétain regimes. From 1942 until June 1944, it was used as a holding camp for Jewish families awaiting deportation to other camps. The last transport out of the camp in June 1944 took the prisoners to Dachau concentration camp.

Saint-Amans (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃t‿amɑ̃] ; Languedocien: Sent Amanç) is a former commune in the Ariège department in south-western France. It was merged, on 1 January 2023, into the commune of Bézac.

Pamiers (French pronunciation: [pamje] ; Occitan: Pàmias Occitan pronunciation: [ˈpamjɔs]) is a commune and largest city in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region in southwestern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department. It is the most populous commune in the Ariège department, although it is not the capital which is the smaller town of Foix. The seat of the Bishop of Pamiers is at the Pamiers Cathedral. The current mayor of the town is Frédérique Thiennot, who succeeded André Trigano in 2020 after holding the post for 25 years.

Pamiers Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Saint-Antonin de Pamiers) is a Roman Catholic church located in the town of Pamiers, France. The cathedral is a national monument. It is the ecclesiastical seat of the Bishopric of Pamiers, which was established in 1275, abolished by the Concordat of 1801, and re-established in 1822. It is in the Southern French Gothic architectural tradition, and is dedicated to Antoninus of Pamiers.

The arrondissement of Pamiers is an arrondissement of France in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region. It has 90 communes. Its population is 64,938 (2016), and its area is 1,052.2 km2 (406.3 sq mi).

Pamiers station (French: Gare de Pamiers) is a railway station in Pamiers, Occitanie, France. The station is served by TER (local) services and Intercités de nuit night services operated by SNCF. The station is located at kilometric point (KP) 64.220 on the Portet-Saint-Simon–Puigcerdà railway, between the open stations of Le Vernet-d'Ariège and Varilhes. The station was also the origin and branch location of the now closed Pamiers–Limoux railway.

The Diocese of Pamiers, Couserans, and Mirepoix (Latin: Dioecesis Apamiensis, Couseranensis, et Mirapicensis; French: Diocèse de Pamiers, Mirepoix, et Couserans) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in southern France. The diocese comprises the department of Ariège and is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Toulouse. The diocese of Pamiers is divided into five Deaneries: Pamiers, Foix, Haut-Ariège, Couserans, and Pays-d'Olmes-Mirapoix. The episcopal see is the Cathedral of Saint Antoninus in the city of Pamiers.
