The A22 is a road in County Down, in Northern Ireland. Its route starts in Dundonald and runs to Comber, forming the main transport corridor connecting Belfast and Comber, a commuter town situated 8 miles outside of the city. After bypassing Comber town itself, the route continues along the eastern shores of, though not directly adjacent to, Strangford Lough. The route passes through Lisbane, Balloo (near Killinchy), and Killyleagh, terminating in Downpatrick.

Lisbane is a small village and townland in the parish of Tullynakill and the barony of Castlereagh Lower in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is between Balloo and Comber on the A22 road, 5 kilometres south-east of Comber. It is near Strangford Lough in the Ards and North Down Borough Council. Lisbane had a population of 430 people in the 2011 Census. The name Lisbane is from the Irish An Lios Bán, meaning 'the white ringfort'. No white fort exists there now. There are ten other Irish townlands named Lisbane, four of them in County Down, including one near Bangor. Although the village is Lisbane, much of the village is situated within the townland of Lisbarnet. The townland of Lisbane is closer to Strangford Lough.

Ards (named after the Ards Peninsula) was a local government district in Northern Ireland with the status of borough. It was one of twenty-six districts formed on 1 October 1973, and had its headquarters in Newtownards. It was merged with neighbouring North Down on 1 May 2015 to form the new Borough of Ards and North Down. Other towns in the defunct Borough included Portaferry, Comber, and Donaghadee, and the population of the area was 78,078 according to the 2011 census. Strangford Lough is at the heart of the area, and is the largest inlet in Ireland with internationally renowned wildlife. The Irish Sea coast stretches from Donaghadee to Portaferry. Mount Stewart, a National Trust property on the shore of Strangford Lough, is in the area, as well as Northern Ireland's only aquarium, Exploris, in Portaferry and Grace Neill's pub in Donaghadee.

Ards was a constituency of the Parliament of Northern Ireland.

Drumhirk (from Irish: Droim Thoirc, meaning "ridge of the wild boar") is a rural townland between Ballygowan and Comber in County Down, Northern Ireland. It has an area of 515.2 acres (2.085 km2). It is situated in the civil parish of Kilmood, the Poor Law Union of Newtownards and the historic barony of Castlereagh Lower. Located 2 miles south of Comber, it lies within the Electoral Division of Newtownards North which is part of the Ards and North Down Borough Council.

Comber Whiskey was an Irish whiskey distilled in Comber, County Down, Northern Ireland. The whiskey was last distilled in 1956. However, some reserves were discovered and bottled in the 1980s as "Old Comber" and some of these bottles occasionally come up for sale. Comber Distilleries was established in 1825. At the time of its closure, it was the last pot still in Northern Ireland. The Comber Tandoori Indian restaurant on Killinchy Street in the town occupies the last remaining Comber Distilleries building.

Comber (from Irish An Comar, meaning 'the confluence' , CUM-ber, locally cummer) is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies 5 miles (8 km) south of Newtownards, at the northern end of Strangford Lough. It is situated in the townland of Town Parks, the civil parish of Comber and the historic barony of Castlereagh Lower. Comber is part of the Ards and North Down Borough. It is also known for Comber Whiskey which was last distilled in 1953. A notable native was Thomas Andrews, the designer of the RMS Titanic and was among the many who went down with her. Comber had a population of 9,071 people in the 2011 Census.

Newtownards Aerodrome (ICAO: EGAD) is a local airfield in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is located 8.5 NM (15.7 km; 9.8 mi) east of Belfast. This airport offers light aircraft flights, helicopter flights (operated by HeliPower), microlight flights (operated by NI Microlights) and flight simulator training (by AlphaTech). The airport also has an onsite restaurant. Newtownards Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary Licence (number P659) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Ulster Flying Club (1961) Limited).

Scrabo Tower is a 135 feet (41 m) high 19th-century lookout tower or folly that stands on Scrabo Hill near Newtownards in County Down, Northern Ireland. It provides wide views and is a landmark that can be seen from afar. It was built as a memorial to Charles Vane, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry and was originally known as the Londonderry Monument. Its architectural style is Scottish Baronial Revival.

The Green is a cricket ground in Comber, Northern Ireland and the home of North Down Cricket Club. The ground was established in 1857 and had capacity of 2000 in early days. The two ends are Pavilion End and Mount Alexander End. In 1995, the ground hosted its first List A match when Ireland played Kent in the 1995 Benson & Hedges Cup. In 2005, the ground hosted three further List A matches in the 2005 ICC Trophy, which saw matches between Ireland and Uganda, Bermuda and Uganda, and Namibia and Oman.

The Nendrum Monastery mill was a tide mill on an Mahee Island in Strangford Lough now in Northern Ireland. It is the earliest excavated tide mill, dating from 787 AD. Its millstones are 830mm in diameter and the horizontal wheel is estimated to have developed 7/8HP at its peak. Remains of an earlier mill dated at 619 AD were also found.

Nendrum Monastery (Irish: Naondroim) was a Christian monastery on Mahee Island in Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland. Medieval records say it was founded in the 5th century, but this is uncertain. The monastery came to an end at some time between 974 and 1178, but its church served a parish until the site was abandoned in the 15th century. Some remains of the monastery can still be seen.
