Urpeth

High Urpeth is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the west of Urpeth, and a short distance to the north of High Handenhold.

Roseberry College and Sixth Form was a state-funded secondary school and sixth form in County Durham, England, founded in 1963 and closed in 2014. The final college Principal was Ann Bowen, who is also a geography textbook author for the examination board AQA. The school was housed on a very large single site with capacity for almost 1000 pupils in the Pelton, County Durham / Newfield, Chester-le-Street / Ouston, County Durham areas.

Grange Villa is a village situated in County Durham, England. It is located between the towns of Stanley and Chester-le-Street.

Beamish, previously named 'Pit Hill', is a village in County Durham, England, situated to the north east of Stanley. The village is contained within Hell Hole Wood and is home to Beamish Museum, an open-air museum seeking to replicate a northern town of the early 20th century. Its principal public house is the Shepherd and Shepherdess, near the Beamish Museum entrance. To the south is the village of No Place (also called Co-operative Villas). North West Beamish lies in the conservation area of Beamish Burn. To the north of Beamish, Pockerley Manor preserves a rare though altered example of a pele tower in County Durham, probably dating from the 15th century with later alterations and additions. It is attached to a later farmhouse and the building is now known as Pockerley Manor. The tower has living accommodation built over a stone basement, the first floor reached through a stair built into the thickness of the wall, and the roof is largely original.

Newfield is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated between Chester-le-Street and Stanley. Its services include the following: a mobile post office, primary school with a good Ofsted rating with some outstanding features, pub, beauty salon, a dental surgery, bakery/cafe and a lunch time take away cafe. It also has won silver two years in a row in the RHS In bloom awards. This is a semi-rural area with great access to Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland and the market town of Chester Le Street.

Beamish was a railway station which served the village of Beamish in County Durham, North East England, from 1894 to 1953. The station was built by the North Eastern Railway on the Beamish Deviation Line off of the earlier Stanhope and Tyne Railway.

Pelton is a village and electoral ward in County Durham, in England. The population of the village and ward taken at the 2011 census was 8,250. It is located about two miles to the northwest of Chester-le-Street. The village of West Pelton is located to the west; separated from it by a few villages between and closer to Stanley than to central Chester-le-Street. Pelton has a newly built community centre updated in 2012, one public house and a small range of convenience stores, including a CO OP, three general stores, a Post Office, chemist, doctors surgery, dentist, library, two parks and some take-away food outlets, and some hair salons. Local schools in the area include a primary school (Pelton Primary school). Pelton is served by public transport, with links to Stanley, Sunderland, Newcastle upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Consett with buses running up to every 30 minutes or so to 5 bus stops throughout the village. In local government they are governed by the Pelton Parish Council.Most of the village sits within the River Tyne Catchment area, close to the tributary River Team which joins the Tyne in Dunston The remainder of the village sits within the River Wear catchment area, close to The Cong Burn, which joins the Wear in Chester-le-Street.

Perkinsville is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated immediately to the north of Pelton, to the north-west of Chester-le-Street. There are a few shops including a convenience store, a fish and chip shop and a Beauty Salon. There is also a working men's club. A pub ('The Ship') was located in the village but has been demolished with new housing being built in its place. Perkinsville was constructed between 1858 & 1871 by Edward Moseley Perkins, who ran Birtley Iron Works & 2 local coal mines. He was succeeded by his son Charles who expanded the business but was unfortunately killed in a car crash in 1905. Perkinsville was originally laid out in a simple colliery housing style with streets named "A street" through "E Street" and a North Street, but in the 20th century there was considerable redevelopment of the village. The village is part of the Pelton ward of Pelton Parish Council and is part of the Pelton division of Durham County Council.

Kibblesworth is a village 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Birtley, Tyne and Wear, England. Kibblesworth was a mainly rural community until the development of the pit and brickworks and the resulting increase in population.Following the closure of the pit in 1974, few of the residents now work in the village. Historically in County Durham, it was transferred into the newly created county of Tyne and Wear in 1974. After being predominantly a council estate project consisting of prefabricated homes built in the 1950s, Kibblesworth has seen a massive change in recent times with the ‘pre-fabs’ being demolished and the new ‘Ridings Estate’ homes built by Keepmoat replacing them all, providing a much needed facelift and more providing more homes to buy. There are plans to build around 220 new homes by Taylor Wimpey on the surrounding outskirts of the village, with previous green belt land being downgraded to brown belt by the Government, with planning permission at an advanced stage, although this has had some strong opposition from current Kibblesworth residents due to already strained amenities including the local school and road systems. Kibblesworth has two play parks, a Bowling Green, a Cricket and Football pitch, the Kibblesworth Academy school, a Working Men’s Club, a local pub ‘The Plough Inn’, a Community Centre Millenium Centre opened by Princess Anne in 2000 which also features a Hair Salon and a Beauty ‘Pod’, a Convenience Store including the local Post Office ran by the Thandi Family and an Italian Bistro ‘Giuseppe’s’ opened in 2019. It is served by buses from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne and Chester-le-Street featuring three bus stops within the village and a scholars bus for the nearby Lord Lawson of Beamish, based in Birtley. The village's name means "Cybbel's Enclosure".

Beamish Museum contains much of transport interest, and the size of its site makes good internal transportation for visitors and staff purposes a necessity.

Beamish Museum is the first regional open-air museum, in England, located at Beamish, near the town of Stanley, in County Durham, England. Beamish pioneered the concept of a living museum. By displaying duplicates or replaceable items, it was also an early example of the now commonplace practice of museums allowing visitors to touch objects.The museum's guiding principle is to preserve an example of everyday life in urban and rural North East England at the climax of industrialisation in the early 20th century. Much of the restoration and interpretation is specific to the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, together with portions of countryside under the influence of industrial revolution from 1825. On its 350 acres (140 ha) estate it uses a mixture of translocated, original and replica buildings, a large collection of artifacts, working vehicles and equipment, as well as livestock and costumed interpreters. The museum has received a number of awards since it opened to visitors in 1972 and has influenced other living museums. It is an educational resource, and also helps to preserve some traditional and rare north-country livestock breeds.
