The John Fairey Garden, formerly known as the Peckerwood Garden, is a forty-acre Garden Conservancy and ArbNet certified garden located in Hempstead, Texas in the United States, founded by John G. Fairey. Over three thousand plants, many collected during the more than 100 expeditions to Mexico, many acquired through exchanges with botanical gardens and nurseries, exist in diverse naturalistic settings which is one of the hallmarks of John Fairey's landscape designs. Other design hallmarks include aesthetic use of pea gravel, steel hardscaping, a colonial blue stucco wall, stucco fountain wall, and art.

The Prairie View Cricket Complex (PVCC) is a group of six cricket grounds located in the Waller County neighborhood of Houston, Texas, United States. The facility is joint-owned by Tanweer Ahmed and Major League Cricket.

Liendo Plantation is an historic cotton plantation in Waller County, Texas, United States. Named after its original owner, José Justo Liendo, the plantation was purchased in 1873 by sculptor Elisabet Ney and her husband, physician Edmund Montgomery.The plantation home was given a state historical marker in 1936, and the entire plantation was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1964. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 21, 1971.

Prairie View is a city in Waller County, Texas, United States, situated on the northwestern edge of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The population was 8,184 at the 2020 census. Prairie View A&M University, the second-oldest public university in Texas, is based in the city.

John W. Tankersley Field is a baseball venue in Prairie View, Texas, United States. It is home to the Prairie View A&M Panthers baseball team of the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference. The facility has a capacity of 512 spectators and is named for John Tankersley, who was the head coach of the Panthers from 1969 to 1972 and again from 1975 to 2002.

Blackshear Field was a 6,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Prairie View, Texas, United States. It was home to the Prairie View A&M University Panthers college football team. The facility opened in 1960, and was named in honor of Edward L. Blackshear, who served as principal of the school (then known as Prairie View State Normal and Industrial College) from 1897 to 1915.On July 23, 2010, Prairie View A&M University officials announced plans to raise money for the construction of a new 15,000-seat football stadium and athletics fieldhouse, Panther Stadium, on the footprint of Blackshear Field. On January 23, 2015, the old stadium was demolished and construction began on the complex, which opened for the 2016 football season.

Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field is a stadium on the campus of Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. The venue is a multi-sport field used primarily for American football and is the home field of Prairie View A&M Panthers football. The 15,000-seat stadium holds 10 skyboxes/suites and 500 premium seats, a field house featuring a large weight room, a dining area, academic support space, locker rooms and training rooms, and other amenities. The stadium's inaugural game was held on September 4, 2016 between Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.

The William Nicks Building is a 4,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Prairie View, Texas. It is home to the Prairie View A&M University Panthers basketball team, volleyball team, and commencement. It is named for Billy Nicks, the school's longtime football coach and athletic director. As part of renovation projects in 2011–2012, every seat is chairback. Locker rooms were renovated in 2014. The building is nicknamed the "Baby Dome" as a result of its structural configuration.

Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU or PV) is a public historically black land-grant university in Prairie View, Texas. Founded in 1876, it is one of Texas's two land-grant universities and the second oldest public institution of higher learning in the state. It offers baccalaureate degrees in 50 academic majors, 37 master's degrees and four doctoral degree programs through eight colleges and the School of Architecture. PVAMU is the largest HBCU in the state of Texas and the third largest HBCU in the United States. PVAMU is a member of the Texas A&M University System and Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Prairie View A&M fields 18 intercollegiate sports team, commonly known by their "Prairie View A&M Panthers" nickname. Prairie View A&M competes in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Prairie View A&M is the only charter member remaining in the conference.

Hempstead High School is a public high school located in the city of Hempstead, Texas, United States and classified as a 3A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Hempstead Independent School District located in northwestern Waller County. In 2015, the school was rated "Improvement Required" by the Texas Education Agency.

Sandra Annette Bland was a 28-year-old African-American woman who was found hanged in a jail cell in Waller County, Texas, on July 13, 2015, three days after being arrested during a traffic stop. Officials found her death to be a suicide. There were protests against her arrest, disputing the cause of death, and alleging racial violence against her. Bland was pulled over for a traffic violation on July 10 by State Trooper Brian Encinia. The exchange escalated, resulting in Bland's arrest and a charge of assaulting a police officer. The arrest was partially recorded by Encinia's dashcam, a bystander's cell phone, and Bland's own cell phone. After authorities reviewed the dashcam footage, Encinia was placed on administrative leave for failing to follow proper traffic stop procedures. Texas authorities and the FBI conducted an investigation into Bland's death and determined the Waller County jail did not follow required policies, including time checks on inmates and ensuring that employees had completed required mental health training. In December 2015, a grand jury declined to indict the county sheriff and jail staff for a felony relating to Bland's death. The following month, Encinia was indicted for perjury for making false statements about the circumstances surrounding Bland's arrest, and he was subsequently fired by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). In September 2016, Bland's mother settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the county jail and police department for $1.9 million and some procedural changes. In June 2017, the perjury charge against Encinia was dropped in return for his agreement to permanently end his law enforcement career. In 2019, Bland's cell phone video became available to the public and to Bland's family for the first time. The video was obtained and shown by Dallas news station WFAA. This video was not available during the civil trials.
