Lakewood School District (New Jersey)

Lakewood is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Lakewood Township, in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 53,805.

Lakewood Terminal is a regional bus terminal owned and operated by NJ Transit (NJT) at 1st & Lexington Avenues in Lakewood, New Jersey. Bus service includes routes to Atlantic City, Hudson County, New York, Philadelphia, and points at the Jersey Shore, including those of the Ocean County bus network, Ocean Ride. It is situated near the intersection of Route 88 and U.S. Route 9, a busy commuter corridor and the former Central Railroad of New Jersey right-of-way, where the MOM rail line may eventually travel. There are 92 parking spaces available at the bus station.

The Strand Theater is a vaudeville theater located at 400 Clifton Avenue in Lakewood Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 22, 1982, for its significance in architecture, art, and theater.

Beth Medrash Govoha (Hebrew: בית מדרש גבוה, pronounced: Beis Medrash Gavo'ha. lit: "High House of Learning"; also known as Lakewood Yeshiva or BMG) is a Haredi Jewish Lithuanian yeshiva in Lakewood Township, New Jersey. It was founded by Rabbi Aaron Kotler in 1943 and is the second-largest yeshiva in the world, after Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem. As of 2019, it had 6,715 students, 2,748 regular and 3,967 in Kollel status. The principal Rosh yeshiva since 1982 is Rabbi Malkiel Kotler. Talmud and halakha studies in the institution are carried in the form of over 200 small groups, Chaburos, which consist of several students mentored by a veteran, each pursuing its own specific curriculum with an emphasis on individual learning.

Lakewood High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in Lakewood Township, Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Lakewood School District. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,458 students and 87.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 16.7:1. There were 1,106 students (75.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 47 (3.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

A man-made lake in the center of Lakewood Township, New Jersey, Lake Carasaljo was created in the mid-1700s when the South Branch of the Metedeconk River was dammed to provide power for a sawmill, which became known as Three Partners Mill. The lake was given its present name in 1865, when the town was renamed from Bergen Iron Works to Bricksburg.Lake Carasaljo is named after the three daughters of the owner of the Bergen Iron Works, Joseph Woolston Brick, for whom Brick Township, New Jersey is named. His daughters were named Caroline (nicknamed 'Carrie'), Sarah ('Sally') and Josephine ('Jo'). Brick's wife Manetta lent her name to its sister lake, which was created when the Watering Place Branch was dammed in 1816.Local legend is that the three girls drowned in the lake, which was subsequently named after them. Historical documents show the three girls were alive when the lake was named. Another man-made lake, Lake Shenandoah, is also found along the same branch of the Metedeconk River and is part of the Ocean County, New Jersey Department of Parks and Recreation. Georgian Court University, which is on the grounds of what was once an estate of George Jay Gould, is on the northern shore of the lake. The lake is bounded on the north side by North Lake Drive, on the south by South Lake Drive, and on the east by U.S. Route 9 (also known as River Road). It is separated from Lake Manetta by the Central Avenue Bridge.

The Sister Mary Grace Burns Arboretum, on the campus of Georgian Court University, in Lakewood Township, New Jersey, United States, was once the landscaped park for the winter home of George Jay Gould, millionaire son of railroad tycoon Jay Gould.

The Saint Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral is located in Howell Township, New Jersey, United States and is under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).

Georgian Court University (GCU or Georgian Court) is a private Roman Catholic university in Lakewood Township, New Jersey. Founded in 1908 by the Sisters of Mercy, the university has more than 1,600 undergraduates and nearly 600 graduate students. The institution became a university in 2004 and began admitting male students in 1994 after more than 100 years as a women's college. The university is open to students of all faiths, while emphasizing its mission of Mercy, which incorporates respect, justice, integrity, compassion, and service. The Lakewood campus (main campus) was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985.

Lakewood Township is the most populous township in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. A rapidly growing community, as of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 135,158, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 42,315 (+45.6%) from the 2010 census count of 92,843, which in turn reflected an increase of 32,491 (+53.8%) from the 60,352 counted in the 2000 census. The township ranked as the fifth-most-populous municipality in the state in 2020, after ranking seventh in 2010, and 22nd in 2000, placing the township only behind the state's four biggest cities (Newark; Jersey City; Paterson; Elizabeth). The sharp increase in population from 2000 to 2010 was led largely by increases in the township's Orthodox Jewish and Latino communities. Further growth in the Orthodox community led to a sharp increase in population in the 2020 census, with a large number of births leading to a significant drop in the township's median age. The Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program calculated that the township's population was 139,506 in 2022, helping the fast-growing town surpass Elizabeth as the fourth-most-populous municipality in the state.As a major hub of Orthodox Judaism, Lakewood is home to Beth Medrash Govoha (BMG), the largest yeshiva outside of Israel. The large Orthodox population, which comprises more than half the township's population, strongly influences the township's culture and wields considerable political clout in the township as a voting bloc.

Yeshiva Birchas Chaim is a Haredi Mesivta high school in Lakewood Township, New Jersey.It was founded by Rabbi Shmuel Zalmen Stein in 2001, after his father, Rabbi Chaim Stein, asked him to open a branch of Telshe Yeshiva in Lakewood. As of the 2017–18 school year, the school had an enrollment of 103 students and 7.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.1:1. The school's student body was 100% White.

Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, formerly Kimball Medical Center and before that, Paul Kimball Hospital, is a hospital located in Lakewood, New Jersey, United States, that serves parts of northern Ocean County and southern Monmouth County. The hospital is affiliated with Barnabas Health. Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus also operates two satellite facilities: a psychiatric hospital known as Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Center, formerly Kimball Behavioral Health, (with 100 inpatient beds) in Toms River, NJ and The Center for Healthy Living in Lakewood.
