Smithills Hall is a Grade I listed manor house, and a scheduled monument in Smithills, Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. It stands on the slopes of the West Pennine Moors above Bolton at a height of 500 feet, three miles north west of the town centre. It occupies a defensive site near the Astley and Raveden Brooks. One of the oldest manor houses in the north west of England, its oldest parts, including the great hall, date from the 15th century and it has been since been altered and extended particularly the west part. Parts of it were moated. The property is owned by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council and open to the public.

It is an active Church of England parish church in the deanery of Walmsley, the archdeaconry of Bolton, and the diocese of Manchester. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Eagley Football Club is a football club based in the village of Eagley, near Bolton in Greater Manchester. They are currently members of the West Lancashire League Division One and play at the Dunscar Sports Complex. The club are affiliated to the Lancashire Football Association. Dean Brook is a river in Smithills, Bolton, Greater Manchester, historically within Lancashire. Dean Brook rises on Smithills Moor and flows in a south-easterly direction, through a deep valley called High Shores Clough. It collects Dakin's Brook at Barrow Bridge and then runs through Smithills before meeting Raveden Brook to form Astley Brook, which subsequently joins Eagley Brook and forms the River Tonge. The Dean Brook in Smithills, Bolton, should not be confused with a different Dean Brook, which rises on the north-facing slopes of Rivington Moor, flows in a westerly direction just north of Rivington, Lancashire, and empties into Upper Rivington Reservoir. It should also not be confused with Deane Church Brook, also known as the Kirk Brook, which flows through Deane Church Clough in the west of Bolton.

Smithills School is a mixed secondary school located in Smithills, Bolton, Greater Manchester.Previously a community school administered by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, Smithills School converted to academy status on 1 January 2014. However the school continues to coordinate with Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council for admissions. Smithills School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. This school was used in the filming of the first series of 4 o'clock club, and was known as Elmsbury High in the TV show

Egerton, (pronounced "edgerton"), is a village in the unparished area of South Turton, in the northern part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. Historically a part of Lancashire, it is situated three miles north of Bolton and 12 miles north west of Manchester city centre within the West Pennine Moors. Egerton was originally part of the township of Turton in the ancient parish of Bolton-le-Moors and consisted of a small, remote, farming community known as Walmsley. The name Egerton was brought to the area in 1663 when Ralph Egerton married the step-daughter of James Walmsley, after which their property became known as Egerton's. The village developed in the 1830s when Henry and Edmund Ashworth set up cotton mills.The village is a commuter suburb for Bolton, Blackburn and Manchester. Egerton is located a short distance from Bromley Cross and Tonge Moor, close to Canon Slade School in Bradshaw and Turton School. Parts of Egerton were designated a conservation area by Bolton Council in 1981 to protect the character of the village. The conservation area contains a wide variety of buildings dating from the early 19th Century to the present day. It contains two Grade II listed buildings, and comprises frontages to the Blackburn Road (A666) and a number of side streets, Egerton Cricket Ground, Egerton Park, the grounds of Egerton House and Christ Church.To the west of Egerton is Gale Clough and Shooterslee Wood, a Site of Special Scientific Interest designated for its biological interest. The site is 8.6 hectares (21 acres) and is important due to its broad-leaved woodland which is among the most important in Greater Manchester.Egerton was the birthplace of Bolton Wanderers F.C., which started there as Christ Church F.C. in 1874.

Eagley is a village of the unparished area of South Turton, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it lies on southern slopes of the West Pennine Moors. Eagley Brook passes through the village and runs by Eagley Mills which are now converted flats which overlook the river. Association football club Eagley F.C., notable for being the first ever opponents of Preston North End F.C., are based in the village. Eagley Cricket Club currently plays in the Bolton Cricket League.

Astley Bridge Mill or Holden Mill is a former cotton mill in the district of Astley Bridge in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England which has since been converted into an apartment building. Constructed in 1926 for Sir John Holden & Sons Ltd, it was the last cotton mill to be built in Bolton and is a Grade II listed building.
