The Long Island Central Pine Barrens (also known as the Long Island Pine Barrens) is a large area of publicly protected pine barrens in Suffolk County, New York, on Long Island, covering more than 100,000 acres (405 km2). The Barrens operates in a similar manner to Adirondack Park, with public lands managed by a mix of federal, state, county and local public land managers intermixed with private inholdings. It is Long Island's largest natural area and its last remaining wilderness. The region contains a remnant of the Atlantic coastal pine barrens ecoregion, whose forests might once have covered a quarter million acres (1,000 km²) on Long Island. The Central Pine Barrens overlays and recharges a portion of a federally designated sole source aquifer for Long Island's drinking water. All of Long Island's drinking water comes from ground water wells; none of the island's water comes from reservoirs. Almost all of the Peconic River and Carmans River (two of Long Island's four biggest rivers) as well as much of their watersheds are in the Barrens. Two other large, contiguous examples of this ecosystem remain in the northeastern United States: including the Massachusetts Coastal Pine Barrens and the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

The Long Island Game Farm, situated at 489 Chapman Boulevard in Manorville, New York, was established in 1970 by Stanley and Diane Novak. Buffalo, camels, chimpanzees, deer, goats, lambs, and exotic birds were the earliest residents of the zoo, which also included various education areas and entertainment. Stanley Novak, his wife Diane and daughters Melinda and Susan built the zoo on 29 acres (12 ha). After Stanley’s passing in 1999, his daughter, Melinda, soon took the helm and shifted the focus of the park exclusively toward animals, nature, and education. Nearing 55 years as Long Island’s premier education and attraction center for wildlife, the zoo is evolving further to include a new nonprofit arm, The Foundation for Wildlife Sustainability, Inc., in late summer 2023. Today the Game Farm is home to more than 200 animals. For many people, visiting the game farm is a yearly tradition. WEHM's programming is simulcast on WEHN (96.9 FM) East Hampton, New York, the station which originally had been home to WEHM when it was located on 96.7 FM. WEHN's signal covers the eastern Long Island and southeastern Connecticut areas. WSVV-LP (100.9 FM) is a defunct low-power FM radio station formerly licensed to Center Moriches, New York. The station was silent and its license was set to expire on July 2, 2013, if they did not resume operations. It resumed operations on June 27, 2013.WSVV-LP again went silent on June 8, 2014. On July 21, 2015, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wrote the station to advise that their license was considered expired effective June 9, 2015, due to the station having remained silent for more than twelve months. The station's call sign was deleted from the FCC's database on September 2, 2015.

Center Moriches ( moh-RITCH-iz) was a station stop along the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It was located on Railroad Avenue and Hamilton Street in Center Moriches, New York.

The Mary E. Bell House is a historic house at 66 Railroad Avenue approximately 1/10th mile south of the Long Island rail road in Center Moriches, Long Island, New York. Built in 1872 by Selah Smith of Huntington who purchased the land, it is significant in the area of ethnic history for the Smith and Bell families and the African-American AME Zion community of Center Moriches during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. It is under the Stewardship of the Ketcham Inn Foundation.

Terry-Ketcham Inn is a historic inn and tavern located at Center Moriches in Suffolk County, New York. It was built about 1693, expanded about 1710 and 1790, and is a two-story, nine-bay by two-bay frame structure with a rear wing and gable roof. The original structure was built as a two-bay by three-bay, single-story timber-frame cottage. In about 1710 a three-bay by two-bay timber frame half-house was built to the north of the original structure. A 1790 building program tripled the size of the structure.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, and is protected by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. A historic barn behind the inn is used to sell books, records, and compact discs in order to raise funds for the Ketcham Inn Foundation.
