The Hoboken International Film Festival is an annual festival that promotes domestic and international television pilots, screenplays, non-studio films. Awards, with cash prizes, are given for the best submissions. It is held at the Thomas Morahan Waterfront Park in Greenwood Lake, New York.

Mount Peter is a 1,250-foot (380 m) mountain located in the New York – New Jersey Highlands, Bellvale Mountain, in the U.S. state of New York. The peak is located along the Appalachian Trail in the Town of Warwick, just south of New York State Route 17A, 38 miles (61 km) northwest of New York City, 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Bellvale, New York and north northwest of Greenwood Lake, New York. The mountain is named after an early pioneer to the area, Peter Conklin. A hawkwatch tower occupies a summit just north of Mount Peter; below the tower the Bellvale Farms Creamery serves hikers and passing motorists. A small ski area occupies the northward-facing slope of the mountain.

The Sterling Mountain Fire Observation Tower and Observer's Cabin is a historic fire observation station located on Sterling Mountain in Sterling Forest State Park at Greenwood Lake in Orange County, New York. Located at an elevation of 1,320 ft (400 m), the station includes a 60-foot-tall (18 m), steel-frame lookout tower erected in 1922 and an observer's cabin built about 1934. The tower is a prefabricated structure built by the Aermotor Corporation and provided a front line of defense in preserving the Ramapo Mountains from the hazards of forest fires. The observer's cabin is of light frame construction, sheathed with board and batten siding stained brown.In 1968 an access road was constructed to facilitate repairs, with both the tower and cabin being upgraded that same year. The station became a volunteer-run reserve lookout in 1989 when New York State ended its fire observation program.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Sterling Lake is a lake located in Sterling Forest State Park, New York. The lake contains a number of fish species including Lake Trout, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Chain Pickerel and Panfish. Fishing is permitted from the shore only; no boating is allowed on the lake, and the use of bait-fish is prohibited. There are a number of scenic hiking trails around the lake. One of the trails leads to the Sterling Mountain Fire Observation Tower and Observer's Cabin which provides a 360 degree view of the forest, including Sterling Lake.As of 2018, the Sterling Lake System, operated by SUEZ North America (formerly United Water), supplies drinking water from Sterling Lake to about 225 people.

Bellvale is a wooded hamlet in the town of Warwick in Orange County, New York, United States. Situated in the morning shadow of Bellvale Mountain along New York State Route 17A, Bellvale was the site of an iron forge destroyed by British Army soldiers in 1750; many of its homes and other structures date from before American independence. While close to New York City, its location in the Warwick Valley has prevented suburban development.

The Sterling Iron Works owned by Peter Townsend was one of the first steel and iron manufacturers in the Thirteen Colonies and the first steel producer in the Province of New York. The company was most famous for forging the Hudson River Chain that kept the British Navy from sailing up the Hudson during the American Revolution, and served to protect the strategically important fort at West Point. The works were operational from 1761 to 1842.

Sterling Forest State Park is a 21,938-acre (88.78 km2) state park located in the Ramapo Mountains in Orange County, New York. Established in 1998, it is among the larger additions to the New York state park system in the last 50 years.

The Boulders, also known as the Homer A. Norris House, is a historic home located at Greenwood Lake in Orange County, New York. It was designed by architect Grosvenor Atterbury and built in 1911. It is a two-story, rectangular stone bungalow dwelling and features a projecting two-story gable-roofed bay.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP) was a New York University research facility founded in 1965 by Edward Goldsmith and Jan Moor-Jankowski. The Tuxedo, New York-based outfit was a prominent vendor of primates and primate parts in the New York metropolitan area. These were used by area scientists for transplantation and virus research. The institute closed in 1998. The facility was the subject of a documentary produced by National Geographic featuring Jane Goodall. The award-winning episode, Chimp Rescue, was broadcast in 1998, shortly after the closure of the facility. The documentary chronicled James Mahoney's efforts to save approximately one hundred primates prior to the closure of the facility. One of the likely contributing factors to the demise of LEMSIP was the revision of the caging requirements prescribed by the USDA. The upgrades would have cost the university at least US$2 million. As a result, custody of several animals were passed on to the Coulston Foundation. Moor-Jankowski, a member of the French Academy of Medicine, accused NYU in 1996 of his ousting as director of LEMSIP. He alleged that this act was retaliation for whistle-blowing on former NYU primate addiction researcher Ron Wood.

Bellvale Mountain is a mountain range located near Bellvale in Orange County, New York. It is a continuation of Bearfort Mountain in New Jersey. The Appalachian Trail is located along the ridge of the mountain. Puddingstone of the Skunnemunk Conglomerate is visible along the ridge.

The Mount Tremper Fire Observation Station is a historic fire observation station located on Mount Tremper at Shandaken in Ulster County, New York. The station and contributing resources include a 47-foot-tall (14.3 m), steel frame lookout tower erected in 1917 and a jeep trail that extends from the base of the mountain to a point below its summit. The tower is a prefabricated structure built by the Aermotor Corporation to provide a front line of defense in preserving the Catskill Park from the hazards of forest fires.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Abram S. Hewitt State Forest is a state forest by Hewitt in northwestern New Jersey that is 2,001 acres (8.10 km2). It is on the Bearfort Ridge of unusual conglomerate between Greenwood Lake and Upper Greenwood Lake. Its forests are part of the Northeastern coastal forests ecoregion. It has a number of overlooks and colorful bedrock. It is accessible only on foot, with trails including the Bearfort Trail, 3.0 miles (4.8 km) and white-blazed. Another trail is the Quail trail, 2.4 miles (3.9 km) and orange-blazed. Another is the Ernest Walter trail, 1.9 miles (3.1 km) and yellow-blazed. Also, the 1.2 miles (1.9 km) State Line trail is blazed with blue on white. Lastly, the Appalachian Trail traverses the forest's northwest corner along its route. The Appalachian Trail is approximately 2,200 miles (3,500 km) long.
