Port Washington, New York

Port Washington is the terminus of the Long Island Rail Road's Port Washington Branch in Port Washington, New York. The station is located on Main Street, between Haven Avenue and South Bayles Avenue, just west of Port Washington Boulevard (NY 101), and is 19.9 miles (32 km) from Pennsylvania Station in Midtown Manhattan. A pedestrian bridge exists between the platforms, and is in line with Franklin Avenue, ending at Haven Avenue.

The Port Washington Parking District (also known as the Port Washington Public Parking District) is a special public parking district in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It serves the Greater Port Washington area of Long Island's North Shore and is operated by the Town of North Hempstead.

The Polish American Museum is located at 16 Belleview Avenue in Port Washington, New York, USA. It was founded on January 20, 1977. It features displays of folk art, costumes, historical artifacts and paintings, as well as bilingual research library with particular focus on achievements of the people of Polish heritage in America.Nearly everything in the museum, which is housed at the old Port Washington library, was donated by members of the community: from the war memorabilia, army uniforms, Polish medals and weapons, to the books about Poland in both English and Polish. Barbara Szydlowski, president of the museum, remarked that many Polish immigrants made their way to Nassau County about a century ago to work in North Shore estates, but their descendants are dispersed. "We're trying to do more on the history of Poles on Long Island," she said, "but it's very hard because the population is so scattered."The Museum puts a strong emphasis on famous people of Polish ancestry with a portrait of Pope John Paul II displayed prominently along with that of Tadeusz Kościuszko wearing the uniform of Brigadier General of the American Revolutionary Army, and Kazimierz Pułaski as General Commander of the Cavalry under George Washington. There is a room dedicated to Polish Nobel Prize laureates including Marie Curie and Lech Wałęsa. In the music room there are plaster replicas of Frédéric Chopin's death mask and of his left hand, brought in from Warsaw by a museum member. One of the most poignant items on display is the blue-and-white striped jacket of a concentration-camp inmate, a Polish prisoner who was held by the Germans in World War II, donated by a patron who survived as many as seven different camps in 1944–1945, which is now a part of the Holocaust exhibit. One annex of the museum, that has been receiving visitor accolades is the CMS Annex. The CMS (Center for Military Studies Annex) features the military stories of Poles and Polish Americans that took part in the many wars and campaigns that shaped both US and Polish history. Among the featured exhibits is Long Island's own Frank Gabreski the top U.S. ace in the European Theater during WW2. The current director is Gerald Kochan.

North Shore Animal League America, headquartered in Port Washington, New York, is the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world. Marianne H. Sanders founded the League in 1944, and the League's mission has been saving the lives of pets through adoption, rescue, spay/neuter and advocacy initiatives. Each year, the League rescues, nurtures and adopts nearly 20,000 pets nationwide, and to date, has placed nearly one million puppies, kittens, cats and dogs into screened homes. One of the first animal rescue agencies on the ground in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the League rescued more than 1,400 pets from the region. Every year the medical center takes care of more than 10,000 outpatient visits, administers more than 15,000 vaccinations and performs over 11,000 free spay/neuter procedures for adopted pets, preventing over 132 million unwanted litters. The League's SPAY/USA program is a nationwide referral service for affordable spay/neuter services. The League is also home to a National Shelter Rescue and Humane Education Team. The League has a mobile adoption program, adoption counseling, training and foster care for pets with special needs.In 2005, a documentary series titled Animal House: A Dog's Life on the Animal Planet aired 13 episodes about dogs and workers at the League. In 2019, the facility expanded with a second floor space to accomoodate cats being able to range free.

Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School (commonly Paul D. Schreiber High School or Schreiber High School) is a four-year public high school in Port Washington, in Nassau County, New York, United States. It is operated by the Port Washington Union Free School District. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,638 students and 129.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.6:1. There were 285 students (17.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 18 (1.1% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

William Landsberg House is a historic home located on a hill in a wooded area of the Incorporated Village of Baxter Estates in Nassau County, New York. It was designed by architect William Landsberg for himself and his family.

Baxter Estates is a village in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. It is considered part of the Greater Port Washington area, which is anchored by Port Washington. The population was 991 at the 2020 census.The Incorporated Village of Baxter Estates is located on the Cow Neck Peninsula, within the Town of North Hempstead, and is recognized as a Tree City USA.

Main Street School is a historic school building located at Port Washington in Nassau County, New York. It was completed in 1909 in the Georgian Revival style. It was built as a two-story, brick building with stone detailing and a cement-stucco faced raised basement level. A third story was added during a 1917 expansion. It features a steep gable roof topped by an ornamental cupola with four clock faces. The roof has five gable dormers with round-headed windows.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
