Garland, Nebraska

The Germantown State Bank Building is a historic bank building located in the village of Garland, Nebraska. The bank is no longer in operation. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The first owner on record was August C. Beckman, who acquired the bank from another in 1900. The original bank building was wooden and painted white with the word "Bank" on the front. The bank was incorporated as the Germantown State Bank in 1904; before that, it had operated as a private banking house, the Bank of Germantown.The current stone building was built in 1920, two years after Garland changed its name from Germantown due to anti-German sentiment in the United States after its entry into World War I. Local residents apparently did not object to the bank's name, which was never changed.The bank closed in the 1930s due to the many natural disasters affecting the area. Wm. Barrett Jr. took ownership of the bank in October 1939. The next recorded owner was Joe Pankoke, from 1978 until about 1989, when it was sold to Bob Rashel of California. Rashel died in 1998, and the bank was donated to the village of Garland in his memory.The Germantown State Bank Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Work continues on its restoration.

The Harry T. Jones House is a historic house in Seward, Nebraska. It was built in 1889 for Harry T. Jones, the president of the Jones National Bank. It was designed in the Queen Anne style by George A. Berlinghof. According to historian Joni Gilkerson of the Nebraska State Historical Society, "The main wrap-a-round porch displays classical support colonettes grouped together in units of two or three, a balustrade, spindlework, pediments with decorated tympanums, and a distinctive corner turret with a conical roof of patterned shingles. The second story wrap-a-round porch exhibits similar detailing, including ornamental latticework." The house has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since November 28, 1990.

It was built in 1919 for John Zimmerer, the owner of a hardware store, president of the First National Bank of Seward, and co-founder of the Seward Equitable Savings and Loan Association. It was designed in the Jacobean Revival architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since February 25, 1993.

The Seward County Courthouse is a historic building in Seward, Nebraska, and the county courthouse for Seward County. It was built in 1905–1907 on a farm formerly owned by Lewis Moffitt, the founder of Seward. It was designed in the Classical Revival style by architect George A. Berlinghof. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since January 10, 1990.

The John Cattle Jr. House is a historic house in Seward, Nebraska. It was built in 1885 for John Cattle Jr., an English immigrant and co-founder of the State Bank of Nebraska. Cattle lived here with his wife Blanche, a Welsh immigrant. It was designed in the Second Empire architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since September 13, 1978.The home has been extensively remodeled by Doug and Vikki Gremel since 1988.

Branched Oak State Recreation Area (SRA) is a Nebraska state recreation area located 2.5 miles north of Malcolm, Nebraska (northwest of Lincoln) in Lancaster County. The lake is the largest of the Salt Valley Lakes with 1,800 acres (7 km2) of water in a 5,595-acre (23 km2) park.

Pawnee State Recreation Area (SRA) is a state recreation area in southeastern Nebraska, United States. The recreation area surrounds the 740 acres (3.0 km2) Pawnee Lake, located approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Lincoln. The recreation area is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Pawnee Lake is the second largest of the Salt Valley Lakes. In more recent years, swimming has been prohibited at times because of toxic algae.
