Bach Mai Hospital is a multi-field medical facility in Hanoi and is considered one of the largest in Vietnam. The hospital was established in 1911 during the French colonial rule. It has played an important role in the health system of Vietnam and is one of three high specialized medical centers, specializing in internal medicine. It is a big center of cadres training and scientific research in the country. The hospital has 3,500 beds and 4,300 staff.During Nixon's Christmas bombing, Operation Linebacker II, on December 22, 1972, American bombs struck the hospital, obliterating the building and killing 28 hospital staff members and an unconfirmed number of patients. A special rehabilitation unit was opened in 1998 for treating adults and children with disabling conditions (stroke and cerebral palsy). The unit sponsored by Veterans for America has seen more than 1,700 patients and has fitted more than 2,100 plastic braces since its establishment. In 2000, Bach Mai Hospital was partly reconstructed and supplied with up-to-date facilities and equipment under a grant aid project of the Government of Japan. When SARS broke out in Vietnam in 2003, Bach Mai Hospital substantially contributed to putting it under control by providing strict nosocomial infection control, which was implemented by Japanese experts.There is a small speech therapy unit at the hospital, headed by Dr. Vu Thi Bich Hanh.In May 2008, a spinal unit with 25 patient beds was established with the help of Handicap International.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST; Vietnamese: Đại học Bách khoa Hà Nội, formerly known in English as Hanoi University of Technology (HUT)) until 2010, founded 1956, is the first and largest technical university in Vietnam.

National Economics University (NEU; Vietnamese: Trường Đại học Kinh tế Quốc dân) is a public research university in Hanoi, Vietnam. Founded in 1956, its history and influence have made it one of the leading universities in Economics, Public Administration and Business Administration in Vietnam.NEU is now chairing a network of more than 40 universities in Vietnam in economics and business administration. It is also a prestigious research and consultation center with its publications and consulting works to the government of Vietnam on policy making and to the business community on business development.Since its establishment, NEU has paid special attention to developing international academic cooperation. It has formed partnership relationship with over 100 institutions and organizations from 30 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Laos, Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The university has been involved in research projects in cooperation with large governmental organizations and international financial institutions such as the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Foundation of Vietnam Development Forum (VDF), the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Department for International Development (DFID - UK), and Ausaid (Australia).Many of the university's alumni have a strong track record of success and hold important positions in public and private sectors. The current President of Vietnam, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, is an alumni.

The Institut de la Francophonie pour l'Informatique (IFI), French for the "Computer Science Institute for the Francophonie", is a graduate school in computer science in Vietnam. It was created and funded by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) in 1995 following a request from the Vietnamese government for the training of high-level Vietnamese engineers and college professors in computer science. The countries and regions funding the project are Wallonia, Belgium; Québec, Canada; France; French-speaking Switzerland; and Luxembourg. IFI recruits its students in Vietnam and other French-speaking countries. Professors at the member universities of the AUF (such as ENST Paris, Université catholique de Louvain, UQAM, etc.) come to IFI to give lectures. All courses are conducted in French. Usually, the final internship then takes place abroad (Europe or Canada) in industries, universities or research laboratories. Research internships are often used as a bridge toward a PhD. Industrial internships are taken by those who seek the profile of a project leader in software development. IFI is considered one of the best graduate schools in computer science in Vietnam. About one third of its students continue their PhD in foreign universities; many become professors or founders of software companies in Vietnam.

Hanoi Medical University (HMU, Vietnamese: Trường Đại học Y Hà Nội) is the oldest university of Vietnam and is located in Hanoi. HMU was founded in 1902 by French during the French colonisation under the name Indochina Medical College. The first headmaster of HMU was Alexandre Yersin who was the co-discoverer of the bacillus responsible for the bubonic plague or pest, which was renamed in his honour (Yersinia pestis).

Hanoi (Vietnamese: Hà Nội , Chữ Hán: 河內) is the capital and second-most populous city of Vietnam. As evident by the literal translation of its name – 'inside the river' – portions of Hanoi's border are deliniated by the Red River and the Black River. As a municipality, Hanoi consists of 12 urban districts, 17 rural districts, and 1 district-level town (Sơn Tây). It has an area of 3,359.82 km2 (1,297.23 sq mi) and a population of 8,435,700 in 2022. In 2020, Hanoi has the second-highest gross regional domestic product of all Vietnam provinces and municipalities at 1196 trillion Vietnamese đồng (51.4 billion USD), behind Ho Chi Minh City.In the third century BCE, the Cổ Loa Capital Citadel of Âu Lạc was constructed in the area of modern-day Hanoi. Âu Lạc then falls under China rule for around a thousand years. In 1010, Vietnamese emperor Lý Thái Tổ established the capital of the imperial Vietnamese nation Đại Việt in modern-day central Hanoi, naming the city Thăng Long (literally 'Ascending Dragon'). The Nguyễn dynasty in 1802 moved the national capital to Huế and the city was renamed Hanoi in 1831. It served as the capital of French Indochina from 1902 to 1945. After the August Revolution, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam designated Hanoi as the capital of the newly independent country. In 2008, Hà Tây Province and two other rural districts were annexed into Hanoi, effectively tripling Hanoi's area. In the 21st century, Hanoi is the cultural, economic and education center of Northern Vietnam. As the capital of the country, Hanoi hosts 78 foreign embassies, the headquarter of People's Army of Vietnam, its own Vietnam National University system, and many other governmental organs. Hanoi is also a major tourist destination, with 18.7 million domestic and international visitors in 2022. The city hosts Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long (an UNESCO World Heritage Site), Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoàn Kiếm Lake, West Lake, and Ba Vì National Park near the outskirts of the municipality. Hanoi's urban area has a wide range of architectural styles, including French colonial architecture, brutalist apartments typical of socialist nations and disorganized alleys–tube houses reflecting the city's rapid growth since Đổi Mới. As of early 2020s, many urban amenities in Hanoi are under heavy construction, such as the 8-lines Hanoi Metro and numerous housing estates.

Hai Bà Trưng (Trưng Sisters District) is one of the four original urban districts (quận) of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The district currently has 18 wards, covering a total area of 10.26 square kilometers. It is bordered by Long Biên district, Đống Đa district, Thanh Xuân district, Hoàng Mai district, Hoàn Kiếm district. As of 2019, there were 303,586 people residing in the district, the population density is 30,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. Established as one of the first four central districts of the city, it is named after the two heroines in Vietnamese history: the Trưng Sisters. Some of Vietnam's largest universities are located here, including the Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi National Economic University, and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.

Bach Mai Airfield (Vietnamese: Sân bay Bach Mai) is a disused military airport in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi, Vietnam, located along modern-day Le Trong Tan street. It was constructed by the French in 1917 and used by French forces until 1954; along with Gia Lam Airbase, it was one of the major logistics bases supporting French operations at Dien Bien Phu. After 1954, it was used by the Vietnamese People's Air Force and served as their air defense command and control center during the Second Indochina War, playing a part in the Cambodian–Vietnamese War as well. It is now the site of the Vietnam People's Air Force Museum, where a number of period military aircraft are on display.

Mai Huong Hospital (or Mai Huong Day Psychiatric Hospital) - a hospital in Hanoi (Vietnam) specialized in mental health. The hospital provides psychotherapy, medical treatment, consultations, rehabilitation services and is sponsored by Centre for International Mental Health of the University of Melbourne. The programs for free mental check-ups and counselling for students and schoolchildren are regularly held.

The Vietnam People's Air Force Museum, Hanoi or Bảo Tàng Phòng Không - Không Quân is located on Truong Chinh Street in the Bach Mai District of Hanoi. The museum is on the edge of the disused Bach Mai Airfield. The museum tells the history of the Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) from its formation in 1954 through to the present day. There is a heavy emphasis on its role in the Second Indochina War and the Cambodian-Vietnamese War. The museum comprises one main building with displays on the history of the VPAF, biographies of VPAF aces, uniforms and flightsuits, aircraft weaponry and engines, items from downed US aircraft and the forward fuselage of a MiG-21. Outside is a static park with aircraft of the VPAF and the Republic of Vietnam Air Force.The museum is open Mon.-Thurs. and Sat.-Sun. from 08:00 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 16:00. Entry fee is 20,000 VND

The assassination of Alfred François Bazin (French: [bazɛ̃]), a French labour recruiter in Hanoi, colonial Vietnam on February 9, 1929 marked the beginning of the demise of the Vietnamese Nationalist Party (VNQDĐ), which perpetrated the killing. The resulting French retribution severely weakened the fledgling Vietnamese revolutionary movement and hampered its ability to undermine colonial rule.

Thiền Quang Lake (Vietnamese: Hồ Thiền Quang) is a lake in Hanoi, Vietnam. It was previously known as the Lac Halais during the French colonial period (1888–1945) due to its location next to the rue Halais, now Nguyễn Du Street.
