Howth Head

The Ben of Howth ( HOHTH; Irish: Beann Éadair ) is a hilly area on Howth Head, adjacent to the 171 metre high Black Linn, the peninsula's highest point.

Howth ( HOHTH; Irish: Binn Éadair, meaning 'Éadar's peak') is an affluent peninsular village and outer suburb of Dublin, Ireland. The district as a whole occupies the greater part of the peninsula of Howth Head, which forms the northern boundary of Dublin Bay, and includes the island of Ireland's Eye, which holds multiple natural protection designations. Howth has been settled since prehistoric times, and features in Irish mythology. A fishing village and small trading port from at least the 14th century, Howth has grown to become a busy and affluent suburb of Dublin, with a mix of suburban residential development, wild hillside and heathland, golf courses, cliff and coastal paths, a small quarry and a busy commercial fishing port. The only neighbouring district on land is Sutton. Howth is also home to one of the oldest occupied buildings in Ireland, Howth Castle, and its estate.Howth is also a civil parish in the ancient barony of Coolock.

The Old Courthouse in Howth is a former place of worship that was subsequently used as a courthouse. It was built around 1845 and used as a place of worship for fishermen, then later used as a rent collection office by agents of Lord Howth. By 1870 it was used as a local courthouse and it continued as one until 1970. It is at the junction of Harbour Road and Church Street. It is a protected structure under Part IV of the Planning & Development Act 2000 and is a protected structure numbered RPS 567. It is part of the Howth Historic Core Architectural Statement of Character.It was due to be refurbished in early 2020 as a tourist centre.

The Church of the Assumption, Howth is a Roman Catholic church in Howth, in Fingal in the historic County Dublin. The church is situated at the junction of Thormanby Road and Main Street, Howth, with St. Mary's Road, a short road joining the other two roads, behind. The roof is double pitched slate with decorative terracotta ridge tiles and cast iron rainwater goods. The walls are rockfaced granite with a limestone plinth, gargoyles and early Irish stone crosses.

Howth Castle ( HOHTH) and estate lie just outside the village of Howth, County Dublin in Ireland, in the administration of Fingal County Council. The castle was the ancestral home of the line of the St Lawrence family (see: Earl of Howth) that had held the area since the Norman Invasion of 1180, and held the title of Lord of Howth until circa 1425, the Baron Howth to 1767, then Earl of Howth until 1909. The castle and estate are held since 1909 by their distaff heirs, the Gaisford-St Lawrence family. The estate includes much of the peninsula of Howth Head, including extensive heathland and much of Howth's cliff walks, with views over Dublin Bay, light woodland, and the island of Ireland's Eye. On the grounds near the castle are golf, pitch and putt and footgolf facilities, a former hotel, formal gardens and a pond, rhododendron walks - and several small streams pass through the estate. In October 2018, the family announced their agreement to sell the castle, demesne and Ireland's Eye to the Tetrarch investment group who intended to redevelop the hotel and course as a luxury resort. A 7-acre portion of the site zoned for residential development close to the castle gate was sold onwards by Tetrarch to Glenveagh Homes for €14m after the sale closed. Glenveagh's interim financial report notes they intend to build 200 apartments on the site with first deliveries in 2023.

Howth DART station ( HOHTH; Irish: Stáisiún Bhinn Éadair), is a railway station in Fingal, Ireland that serves Howth village and one side of Howth Head.

Aideen's Grave is a collapsed megalithic dolmen located in the grounds of Howth Castle in north County Dublin, Ireland.

Howth Lifeboat Station sits on the middle pier at Howth Harbour in the fishing village of Howth, on Howth Head, a peninsula located on the north side of Dublin Bay, in the administrative region of Fingal, historically County Dublin, on the east coast of Ireland. A lifeboat was first stationed at Howth in 1817 by the Corporation and Port of Dublin. Management of the station was transferred to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in 1862. The station currently operates a Trent-class All-weather lifeboat, 14-33 Roy Barker III (ON 1258), on station since 2002, and the D-class (IB1) Inshore lifeboat Aideen Cresswell (D-796), on station since 2016.

The National Transport Museum of Ireland (Irish: Iarsmalann Náisiunta Iompair na hÉireann) is based in the grounds of Howth Castle in Ireland. The museum is located in the Heritage Depot, Howth Demesne, Howth, Ireland (entry is via the main gates for Howth Castle, turning right just before the castle is reached). Sixty vehicles are currently in Howth on display. The oldest items date from second half of the 19th century, the newest 1984. It features buses, lorries, trucks, fire engines, trams and tractors. Also exhibited is the restored Hill of Howth No.9 Tram.The museum is run on a voluntary basis, and is funded by a minimal entry fee and donations

Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio is a museum of communication history based in the Martello tower in Howth, Dublin.

Shielmartin Hill or Shelmartin (163 metres (535 ft) high) is a peak on Howth Head. From it can be seen Portmarnock, Sutton, Bull Island and the coastal areas behind it, and most of Dublin Bay.

The Harbour lighthouse in Howth is an historic aid to navigation situated on the East pier of the harbour. It was built in the early 19th century to help guide shipping into the newly constructed harbour, which acted as the terminus for the packet service between Ireland and England. In 1982 it was decommissioned and replaced by a modern pole light on an adjacent extension of the pier.
