Denbigh Plantation Site, also known as Mathews Manor, is a historic archaeological site located at Newport News, Virginia.

First Denbigh Parish Church Archeological Site is a historic archaeological site located at Newport News, Virginia. The site is located on the bluff overlooking the Warwick River at the mouth of Church Creek. It took its name from nearby Denbigh Plantation and was constructed in 1636.

Blunt Poynt (also spelled 'Blount Point' or 'Blunt Point') is a historic site located on the north shore of the James River near or in the modern-day Hidenwood neighborhood of Newport News, Virginia. It is named for an incident on July 1610. Sir Thomas Gates was going down the river, and observed an adrift longboat from Fort Algernon near Old Point Comfort. Gates sent Humphrey Blunt to retrieve the boat, but Blunt was ambushed and killed by Nansemond Indians while Gates observed. In retaliation, just a few days later, Gates would seize the native village of Kecoughtan, Virginia. These events were early conflicts leading up to the in the Anglo-Powhatan Wars Because of the early date of this incident, it exists as one of the earliest English place-names in America. The name Blunt Poynt was used as a landmark of reference in some of the earliest land grants and reports of the Colony of Virginia. A marker for the site was erected by the city of Newport News on April 17, 2019.

Menchville is the top school in Newport News regarding the number of students taking AP exams and has the highest passing rate. The school's sports teams are nicknamed the Monarchs. On average, The student population is around 1,600.

The Warwick River is a 14.4-mile-long (23.2 km) tidal estuary which empties into the James River a few miles from Hampton Roads at the southern end of Chesapeake Bay in southeast Virginia in the United States. Originating in York County near the northern side a few miles west of Yorktown, it flows south across the Virginia Peninsula and is almost entirely located in the independent city of Newport News. The Warwick River took its name from Robert Rich, second Earl of Warwick and a prominent member of the Virginia Company of London who was proprietor of Richneck Plantation in Warwick River Shire, one of the eight original shires of Virginia created in 1634. The shire became Warwick County in 1643, and became part of the independent city of Newport News in 1958 through a municipal consolidation. In 1862, during the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War, the Warwick Line, a defensive works across the peninsula, was maintained along the river by Confederate General John B. Magruder against much larger Union forces under General George B. McClellan. Through the use of elaborate ruse tactics, "Prince John" Magruder, who was also an actor, provided valuable time for the ultimately successful defense of Richmond led by General Robert E. Lee which culminated in the Seven Days Battles. The Warwick River adjoins Fort Eustis, a U.S. Army base, on its western shore, which also occupies historic Mulberry Island. During the 20th century, upper reaches of the river were dammed to create fresh water reservoirs for Newport News Waterworks which serves several local communities.

Hidenwood is a neighborhood in the independent city of Newport News, Virginia which is located off Warwick Boulevard just west of the campus of Christopher Newport University (CNU). Hidenwood was developed in the 1950s in an area of Warwick County originally known as Nutmeg Quarter in the Colony of Virginia. It was named to honor Philip Wallace Hiden, a local businessman and civic leader.

Nicewood Park is a seven-acre park located in Newport News, Virginia and maintained by the Newport News Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.Nicewood Park is located at the end of Nicewood Drive in Newport News. The park has a large grassy field, a basketball hoop, trash cans, swings, two slides, picnic tables, and many trees. The terrain is mostly flat, although to the right of the park's main entrance it becomes slightly hilly. To the right of the park is a stream which feeds into a sewer. If one is lucky, one may hear or see ducks, birds such as northern cardinals, and butterflies. The park is in a residential area and closes at sunset.

Stanley Hundred is the name given by Sir George Yeardley around 1626 to the plantation in what would later be part of Warwick River Shire. The name was also used to refer to the corresponding colonial parish in the same area. The earliest known English settlement in the area came in 1617 or 1618 when indentured servants arrived on 1000 acres of land on Mulberry Island. Despite the plantation’s vastness, its population was small enough to have no representative at the House of Burgesses’ first session in 1619. The English Crown issued the first patent for land on Mulberry Island in 1619. It is possible that Sir George Yeardley held the 1,000 acre parcel on the south end of Mulberry Island, which would be known as Stanley Hundred as early as 1621, based on land patents. However, the early growth of the Mulberry Island settlement ended with the 1622 Indian uprising. “The numbers that were slaine in those severall Plantations” included six persons at Mulberry Island: Master Thomas Peirce, his wife, his child, John Hopkins, John Samon, and a “French boy” The remaining men, women, and children who survived the attack abandoned Mulberry Island at that time. By 1625 however, settlers returned to Mulberry Island armed with 42 swords, 27 guns, and 22 pieces of armor. The 1624/5 Muster noted 30 people among 13 households.

TowneBank Stadium is located in Newport News, Virginia, and has served as the home stadium for Lionsbridge FC of the USL League Two since 2018 and the Christopher Newport Captains football team since their inaugural 2001 season.The stadium opened in 2001 without the now-present permanent concession stands, restrooms, lights, press box or video board. The concession stands, restrooms and press box were added in 2003. Lights were added in 2011. The 312 square foot video board debuted in 2015.It was previously known as Pomoco Stadium, until it was renamed in 2019, five years after TowneBank pledged a gift of $1,000,000 in 2014 to support CNU's Comprehensive Campaign.The stadium has a maximum seating capacity of 4,200, with the largest crowd ever on-hand of 6,135 occurring during the inaugural game against Salisbury University on September 1, 2001. Lionsbridge FC welcomed its 50,000th fan to TowneBank Stadium in 2022.

John B. Todd Stadium is a football stadium in Newport News, Virginia located on Warwick Boulevard between Minton and Hidenwood Drives. It is named after John B. Todd, who was a standout football player at Newport News High School and The College of William and Mary. Todd Stadium is owned and operated by Newport News Public Schools since its opening in 1967. All five high schools in Newport News use the stadium for football as well as track meets in order to consolidate resources among their members. Joseph S. Darling Memorial Stadium in nearby Hampton, Virginia serves high schools in Hampton in a similar fashion. Todd Stadium has a capacity of 7,700 people. It is typically packed for AAA Peninsula District games and has also been used for state championship football games, most recently for the 2006 AAA Division 5 Championship between Phoebus High School and Edison High School. Todd Stadium is also used for the VHSL AAA state track and field championships.
