Rosemary Lawn is a historic home and farm complex located at Welcome, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a rambling, two-story, frame farmhouse. The home is believed to be a largely rebuilt version of a house of similar size and configuration that was built between 1844 and 1847, when it was part of the estate of Barnes Compton inherited from his mother, Mary Key (Barnes) Compton (b. 1804 St. Mary's Co., MD -d. 17 JUL 1834, Charles Co., MD). As Barnes Compton was a minor until 1851, the plantation was managed by Wilson Compton, his paternal uncle and guardian, who added improvements such as the house. Most of the exterior and interior finishes of the existing house were constructed during the 1880-1920 period, after the plantation had been sold by the Compton family. Outbuildings include a frame, pyramid-roofed dairy; a frame, pyramid-roofed "cooler" built over elevated foundations enclosing a cellar chamber; and a timber-framed, pyramid-roofed smokehouse. The property is considered of historical significance because of the collection of buildings. It "embraces a singularly unique collection of historically and physically integrated agricultural buildings and domestic support structures, and constitutes the largest and best preserved collection of such buildings known to exist in their original setting in this region. In addition to the rarity of several of the buildings--notably the two dairies and the oldest granary--the manner in which each of the buildings was constructed to maximize its functional use, and their obviously carefully considered placement, is of exceptional interest and importance." Also on the property is a private cemetery of the Barnes/Compton family, who owned and occupied the property from at least 1783 until 1873. Rosemary Lawn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Cedar Grove is a historic home located near La Plata, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a three-part house in the late Federal style, and built about 1854 by Francis Boucher Franklin Burgess. The house consists of a 2+1⁄2-story main block with a two-part east wing, all of common bond brick construction. There are several outbuildings, including two large barns, a small cattle barn, and several sheds.Cedar Grove was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Hill Top, Maryland, is a rural community in Charles County, 2.4 km (1.5 mi) west-northwest of Welcome and 3.2 km (2 mi) east-southeast of Ironsides, on Hilltop Road, a loop off of Maryland Route 6 (locally known as Port Tobacco Road), and about 7 miles west of Port Tobacco. Hill Top existed as a community as early as 1850, in which year it is shown in the U.S. Federal Census as a census district. Hilltop is the seat of a Roman Catholic parish founded in 1851, whose first church building, St. Ignatius Church, was constructed in 1859. At the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861, a corps of Union artillery was stationed at Hill Top, a consequence of the county's perceived Southern sympathies. Hill Top is in the Nanjemoy Creek watershed.

The Mary W. Somers is a Chesapeake Bay skipjack, built in 1904 at Mearsville, Virginia. She is a 41.9-foot-long (12.8 m) two-sail bateau, or "V"-bottomed deadrise type of centerboard sloop. She is one of the 35 surviving traditional Chesapeake Bay skipjacks and a member of the last commercial sailing fleet in the United States. She is located at St. Marys City, St. Mary's County, Maryland.She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Retreat is a historic home located at Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a one-story, clapboard-sheathed, frame house with a double chimney. The principal part of the house was built about 1770. Also located on the property is a frame, pyramid-roofed meathouse, dating from the early 19th century, and moved here from another historic property in the county known as "Brentland" in 1953. The home, approached by a private gravel road, is surrounded by cultivated fields, meadows, and woodland, preserving its original agricultural and rural setting. The house is one of the earliest known examples of the side-passage, two-room dwelling in Charles County. It is associated with Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer and Daniel Jenifer.Retreat was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Ellerslie is a historic home located at Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story frame house of basic Georgian styling, with two exterior chimneys at each end. It was possibly built as early as the mid 18th century, and was extensively altered and enlarged about 1790–1820. A porch was added in 1965. It is the birthplace of Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer, a Founding Father of the United States and signer of the United States Constitution. Ellerslie was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Ironsides is an unincorporated community or "post village" in Charles County, Maryland, United States with zip code 20643. The Post Office was established in 1897 and remained open until at least 1976. Today Ironsides area residents have Indian Head or Nanjemoy addresses. The nearby historic post offices of Nanjemoy and Doncaster, dating from 1800 and 1855, are often associated with historical records of Ironsides.

The Port Tobacco River is a tidal tributary of the Potomac River located in Charles County, Maryland in the United States. The river is approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) in length. Port Tobacco, the county seat of Charles County from 1658 to 1895, was an active port until that portion of the river became silted and unnavigable. When the railroad bypassed the town, business declined, and the county seat was moved to La Plata, Maryland.

Christ Church (also known as Old Durham Church) is one of the oldest (1732) surviving Episcopal church buildings in the U.S. state of Maryland. Christ Church is located in the village of Ironsides within the town of Nanjemoy. Old Trinity Church, Church Creek, Dorchester County, dates to c. 1675 is older. The parish was established in 1661 and chartered in 1692. The original church building was a log structure, which was replaced with the current brick church building in 1732; the 1732 building was enlarged and renovated in 1791. Revolutionary War General William Smallwood and colonial Governor William Stone are buried in the churchyard.

Ripley is an unincorporated community in Charles County, Maryland, United States. It was named after a local family, and has a large Baptist church.

St. Thomas Manor (1741) is a historic home and Catholic church complex located near Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland. Known as St. Ignatius Church and Cemetery, the manor house complex is the oldest continuously occupied Jesuit residence in the world. The mission settlement of Chapel Point was established in 1641 by Father Andrew White, S.J., an English Jesuit missionary. Father White ministered to the Potapoco Native Americans, some of whom he converted to Catholicism. Established in 1662, this is the oldest continuously active Roman Catholic parish in the American Thirteen Colonies. With the consecration in 1794 of Bishop John Carroll, St. Thomas became the first Roman Catholic see in the United States.

The Thomas Stone National Historic Site, also known as Haberdeventure or the Thomas Stone House, is a United States National Historic Site located about 25 miles (40 km) south of Washington D.C. in Charles County, Maryland. The site was established to protect the home and property of Founding Father Thomas Stone, one of the 56 signers of the United States Declaration of Independence. His home and estate were owned by the Stone family until 1936.
