Line 5 (Madrid Metro)

Núñez de Balboa is a station on Line 5 and Line 9 of the Madrid Metro. It is located in fare Zone A.The station is named after Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa.

PHotoEspaña, the International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts of Madrid, is a photography forum that began in 1998. The Festival’s program presents work by Spanish and international image-makers. It runs an awards programme with several categories.

The assassination of Prime Minister Luis Carrero Blanco, also known by its code name Operación Ogro (English: Operation Ogre), had far-reaching consequences within the politics of Spain. Admiral Carrero Blanco was killed in Madrid by the Basque separatist group ETA on 20 December 1973. The assassination is considered to have been the biggest attack against the Francoist State since the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. The death of Carrero Blanco had numerous political implications. By the end of 1973, the physical health of dictator Francisco Franco had declined significantly, and it epitomized the final crisis of the Francoist regime. After his death, the most conservative sector of the Francoist State, known as the búnker, wanted to influence Franco so that he would choose an ultraconservative as Prime Minister. Finally, he chose Carlos Arias Navarro, who originally announced a partial relaxation of the most rigid aspects of the Francoist State, but quickly retreated under pressure from the búnker. ETA, on the other hand, consolidated its place as a relevant armed group and would evolve to become one of the main opponents of Francoism.

The Carlos de Amberes Foundation (Spanish: Fundación Carlos de Amberes) is a charitable foundation located in Madrid, Spain. It was founded when Carlos de Amberes donated his goods in 1594 to create a hostel; Carlos was a native of Antwerp (Amberes in Spanish), and bequeathed all his property to support people from the Low Countries visiting Spain. The emphasis has now shifted to cultural projects, although the original purpose was assisting pilgrims and people visiting court. Among others the Foundation is composed of: His Majesty King Juan Carlos, the Belgian Ambassador to Madrid, the President of the Community of Madrid, the Mayor of Madrid, the Head of His Majesty's Office, the President of the Association of Friends of the "Foundation Carlos de Amberes" in Belgium, the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Madrid, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands to Madrid, the President of the Council of State, the Director General of the Spanish Heritage at the Council of Europe, the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, the Director of the Prado Museum and the Manager of the Royal Tapestry Factory and representatives of Spanish and Benelux institutions and companies.The Foundation has moved from its original site. It occupies a purpose-built nineteenth-century building which was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1994.

Castelar or the Monument to Castelar (Spanish: Monumento a Castelar) is an instance of public art in Madrid, Spain. A work by Mariano Benlliure, it is dedicated to Emilio Castelar, president of the First Spanish Republic. It lies on the centre of the namesake Glorieta de Emilio Castelar, a roundabout in the Paseo de la Castellana.

St George's Anglican Church (Spanish: Iglesia Anglicana de San Jorge), also known as Iglesia Anglicana-Episcopaliana de San Jorge or, simply Capilla Británica ('British Chapel'), is a small Anglican church located in the barrio of Recoletos, district of Salamanca, Madrid, Spain, which belongs to the Diocese in Europe of the Church of England. The church was built in 1923 and was consecrated in March 1925.
