Madera, California

The Madera County Courthouse is the former county courthouse of Madera County, California. The courthouse is located at 210 W. Yosemite Ave. in Madera. It was built in 1900 using granite quarried within the county. The courthouse was the first significant public building constructed in Madera County. The building is topped by a clock tower; the tower fell in a 1906 fire but was rebuilt. In 1953, the county government left the courthouse, as a survey found the building to be unsafe. The Madera County Historical Society later converted the courthouse into a museum.The Madera County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 3, 1971.

Previously functioning as the second campus of the town's other high school, Madera High, the school officially became Madera's second official high school in August 2006.

The hospital is locally governed by a board of trustees which provides governance and oversight. The board is composed of over a dozen community and business leaders. Madera Community Hospital was founded in 1971 and is located at 1250 E. Almond Avenue in Madera, California. The hospital contains 106 acute care beds, a 16-bed Emergency Department and a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit. Madera Community Hospital also operates two rural health care clinics and a home health agency. Madera Community Hospital is fully accredited by the American Osteopathic Association's Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act, 1988 (CLIA) program, and is a member of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California and the California Healthcare Association.The COVID-19 pandemic overwhelmed San Joaquin Valley hospitals. Already financially stressed, increasing costs for medical equipment and salaries for traveling nurses to address the surges were too much for the hospital to absorb. On January 3, 2023, Madera Community Hospital shuttered and filed for bankruptcy.

Parkwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Madera County, California, United States. It is part of the Madera Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,307 at the 2020 census.

The Fresno River Viaduct is a bridge to carry California High-Speed Rail over Route 145, the Fresno River, and Raymond Road in Madera County, California.It was completed in 2018, the first permanent structure built for CAHSR. The site is just east of the city limits of Madera, California, about 20 miles northwest of the planned Fresno high-speed rail station and about 10 miles southeast of the planned Chowchilla Wye. Because the site is downstream from the John Franchi Diversion Dam, the riverbed is normally dry unless heavy rains cause the dam to overtop. The bridge is 1,600 feet long and 25 feet high, and runs parallel to the BNSF Railway bridge over the Fresno River.

Parksdale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Madera County, California, United States. It is part of the Madera Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,234 at the 2020 census, up from 2,621 in 2010.

Storey (known as Madera by Amtrak) was an unstaffed train station located in the unincorporated community of Storey, and about 1 mile (1.6 km) southeast of the Fresno River, in Madera County, California, United States. Just prior to its closure in November 2010 and replacement by the new Madera station, this station was served by Amtrak's (the National Railroad Passenger Corporation) San Joaquin. Prior to Amtrak, this station was also previously served by Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad's (ATSF) San Francisco Chief and its Oakland-Barstow Line.

Borden (formerly, Alabama Settlement and Arcola) is an unincorporated community in Madera County, California. It is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of Madera, at an elevation of 272 feet (83 m).The first settlers came from Alabama in 1858, whence its original name. The name Arcola comes from the plantation in Alabama owned by one of the settlers. The current name was bestowed by the railroad for civic leader, Dr. Joseph Borden. The Borden post office operated to 1873, closed for a time in 1896, and closed for good in 1907.On December 2, 2010, the California High-Speed Rail Authority Board voted to start construction of the first part of the California High-Speed Rail line at Borden and continue it to Corcoran, California. Construction is expected to begin in 2012.
